Goals Are Your Roadmap to Direct Sales Success

 

“People with Goals succeed because they know where they are going.” Earl Nightingale

 

If you were building a house, you would start with FOUNDATION, right? The same should be true for your Network Marketing business.

 

We dream of the lifestyle we want to achieve through our network marketing business. And, those dreams are great, when they are combined with goals, intentions and the action steps to get you there.

 

Here are some thoughts on setting goals, intentions and taking action:

 

- Do your goals truly motivate you? This is super important in the process. It’s one thing to say - I want to quit my job - and another to state specifically what your life will look and feel like when you are no longer slave to a job.

 

- Are your goals specific and measurable? Make your goals well defined with dates, timelines and intentional action steps so you can track yourself every step of the way.

 

- Set deadlines. Now, don’t let this scare you. It’s OKAY if you don’t hit every goal on time. But, if you have no timelines set, the chances you’ll miss every goal are strong. Get bold and set some dates and discipline yourself to just do it!

 

- Write out your intentions and your action plan. What things need to happen for you to reach this goal? Goals can seem large and unattainable until we break them down into bite sized pieces.

 

- Write everything down about your goals, intentions and your vision. This is such a powerful process. Create a dream board or a dream book. Put up sticky notes and trigger reminders so that your goal is always right out in front of you.

 

- Time to get into action. Dreaming, hoping and wishing won’t take you there. Nor will just writing it all down. NOW is the time to start taking those daily and weekly intentional action steps toward that goal. You know what needs to be done. Do it!

 

- Never quit. Especially on a bad day or when you have a disappointment. This is just part of the growth process. Challenges will come. Obstacles will show up. They do for everyone. Be the one who perseveres and sees the job through!

How to Stay Motivated in Direct Sales 

Life is not what happened in the past - that is history. Life is what is happening right now. 

What do you want that life of yours to look like? Do you know? Have you thought about it? I mean REALLY thought about it? 

Here's something I have learned in my life and I really want you to remember - it's okay to mess up and make mistakes. You can always start over again. Every day, you can begin again. 

Winners are the ones who pick themselves up, brush off and keep on running for that goal. 

People have asked me, just like I asked many people in the beginning - What is your secret? What can you share with me that will get me to the same success level as you? 

Really, it’s simple. There are a few business rules that I live and die by. It is my belief that if you will follow these business rules, you can not help but be a success. 

Commit to self development and learning. Always be reading some type of book on self development and improving yourself. 

Refuse to get discouraged and especially do not let others discourage you. If you must take a 15 minute pity party, fine, but then pick yourself back up and put on a smile. 

Meet, greet and delete your fears. Take it out, talk to it, laugh and brush it off. Find that "feel good" feeling. 

Be coachable - great ideas are out there everywhere. Be willing to ask, listen and learn 

Attend company functions so you can know the heart and soul of the business, management and the leaders. This will help you develop more quickly.

Seek out others who want what you have to share and let go of those who do not. 

Have a filter question to keep you on track. 

That is it. Everything else can be done in different ways. You might build through parties, running ads, fundraisers, online, or whatever. You don't have to build in the same way as your upline and sponsor. Find your way and commit to it 100%. 

Here are some action steps you can take - 

Decide to become a student - here is a news flash. You don't know everything there is about building a successful business in Direct Sales and Network Marketing. I don't either. That's a relief to me because I know that every day is a day that I can learn and experience more through the successes of others. I don't know where you come from in your past. And, it really doesn't matter. We are all here to support and cheer each other on the great success. Uncross your arms, unplug your ears and become a student to everyone who offers wisdom about this business. You may pick your favorites. 

Know what determines your happiness and your success - Is it the weather? A new car? Other people? What people think of you? What has happened to you in the past? Your current relationship? 

NO! YOU determine whether or not you are going to choose happiness. That's right, here's another newsflash - happiness is a CHOICE! Don't make excuses for why your business is not growing that reflect on anyone but you. Start today to choose happiness, start your day reading 10 minutes from a positive, uplifting book, and then do SOMETHING in your business. I always feel happier when I have accomplished something in my business besides reading email. 

Just like happiness is a choice, so is success. And, it all starts with your belief about your outcome. The more time you spend reading and growing your self through positive, self development books, the higher your belief will be. When you catch yourself thinking in a downbeat way - STOP! Force yourself to CHOOSE to think about other, happier things. 

Know your outcome - What is it EXACTLY that you are trying to accomplish? What are your goals? Your dreams? Your intentions? Okay, great, now what steps will that require from you to make it happen.  

Here's a clue - the people who reach the top are the ones who focus on exactly what they DO want and not what they DO NOT want. Which are you?  

Focus on taking action steps and getting a tiny bit better everyday. Get better and better and know that you are often bad before you are good, and good before you are GREAT! Step by step, tell yourself - Every day, in every way, I'm getting better and better. 

Some people earn $25,000 a year for doing a certain thing. Still, there are others earning $250,000 a year. Are they any better? Smarter? Better looking? I'm guessing the difference is in what the top income earner EXPECTS and BELIEVES he or she should be paid. 

Quit dabbling. Pretend like it is now or never. Stop saying - Maybe I'll do it in 6 Months. Start saying - I'm going to do it TODAY. And then DO IT! Have a sense of urgency about your business and your success. As Yoda said in Star Wars - "Luke, there is only do, or do not - there is no try." 

Also, please do not compare yourself to anyone else. This is not a competition and I promise you, in everything you do, there will be people - better looking, more fit, tanner, smarter, taller, shorter, better educated, and on and on. There will also be people who are less of all of those things. SO WHAT! You are a gift and a classic and there is only one of you. If you MUST compete, compete with yourself week after week, day after day. 

Be prepared to change - Along with success comes change, of some degree. Be prepared for this and do NOT fear it. Think of all of the things that have changed since you have been alive.  

Make a commitment to yourself to do one thing which seems beyond your present ability or comfort level. Make a public commitment so that it is out there and you'll be more inclined to see it through.  

Adopt the 5 simple steps for Success - Get into Network Marketing. There will be a day when it gets into you and these are not always (and rarely are) on the same day. When Network Marketing gets into you, you will be the success that you can and deserve to be. 

Use the products - KNOW your product inside and out. 

Recruit People - this is not difficult. You only need 5 or ten active distributors to begin reaching long lasting residual income.  

Attend all company meetings and functions - this is a very serious statement. You must associate with like minded people who share your same goals and enthusiasm. Get yourself around people willing to teach you what they have done and how they have done it.  

Have fun - this is mandatory. Who wants to join a stuffy, boring business? Not me! I want to be where the fun people are and with the fun people making money. Make your business fun and not stressful. Don't make it seem like work but make it something you LOVE! 

Find out what your purpose is in this business. Find out what your purpose is as a leader.  

For me, personally, I love sharing the message of creating your own experience and abundance in this lifetime.  

Focus only on success results. Learn from any perceived non successful ventures. 

Pay attention to where you are focusing. Pay attention to the thoughts you think and the words you speak. 

Pay attention to what follows - I AM - 

I Am tired, I AM Mad, I am not as good as others, I am not capable of making this work. 

Yuck, what a downer. Does this sound better - 

I may have had a slow start, but I am capable of doing this and going it in a great way. 

I may be tired, but I am going to make 2 more phone calls. 

I may have gotten mad, but I am going to say I am sorry and lift that person up. 

I am as good as anyone else and worthy of the success I want. 

Copy things that work for others. Your business will grow much faster when others can see and feel all of the fun you are having. 

And, you'll always work harder when you are having fun. 

Develop, understand and maintain an attitude that propels you forward into growing an organization that you can manage and lead.  

Find those things that you do best and concentrate there. 

Quit needing approval from those people in your life who will not give it to you. In your home, just set a goal to prove them wrong. 

In your company - don't worry about their approval. Grow your check and approve of yourself! 

Do not settle for less than you can be. 

Here are some things you need to have - 

Have personal written goals and review them EVERY day 

Set a personal example in what you say, how you say it, where you say it, etc. 

Concentrate on the opportunity  

Be positive and do not allow any negative to slow you down or influence your thinking 

Teach others what you know 

Spend a minimum of 50 hours a month building yourself a future and a lifestyle 

Make at least a one year commitment, with action steps in place 

Commit to CANI 

Persist until you succeed. You can't succeed if you quit 

Get committed, stay committed and go for it!

Direct Sales Myths and How to Avoid Them 

Myth 1 in Direct Sales - Network Marketing is easy - it’s simple, but it is NOT easy. Yes, it’s easy to join and sign up, pull out that credit card. But not so easy to work, as we get our mental junk in the way! Telling people it is easy is a sure way to get them to quit at the first challenge. 

Myth 2 in Direct Sales - Anyone can do it. Yes, anyone can join, but it takes a special type of person to have the tenacity to see the job through. And, success stories in hundreds of companies over decades has proven that it’s not your background, education, where you are from, etc, that determines your success. 

Myth 3 in Direct Sales - You only need 2 or 3 people. Now, it is true that it is usually only 2 or 3 people who account for 80% of your income, but it may take 10, 20, 50, 100 or several 100 to find those 2 to 3. We don’t know when they will come in, but if you stick with it, the leaders will show up. 

Myth 4 in Direct Sales - Just talk to your family and friends. This is a great starting point, and is important, but we must expand from there. That’s why we make a list of 100-200 to BEGIN WITH! 

Myth 5 in Direct Sales - You can make bug money quickly. Well, it CAN happen but seldom does, so why frustrate people from the start. When you buy a McDonald’s franchise, and drop $1 million, they tell you that you will not be making a profit for 2-5 years. So, why do we want to make it seem so easy in Network Marketing. 

Myth 6 in Direct Sales - Everyone will want or need this product. Not always. People buy what they want, not always what they need. And while you may want and need it, not everyone will. Offer it to everyone, and then detach from the outcome of who wants it and who does not. 

Myth 7 in Direct Sales - We don’t sell. Right, we share. I know, I know. There is no shame kin selling so don’t think that there is. Learn how to create win-win situations so that people are naturally sold. Don’t be the hard core strong pressure sales person. 

Myth 8 in Direct Sales - We have the best (fill in the blank!) - It may be the best for you, but never put words in someone else’s mouth. Let them tell you it’s the best for them. That’s the best testimonial and “sales job” you can possibly do. Ford drivers won’t convince Mercedes drivers that a Ford is best. And, vice versa.  

Myth 9 in Direct Sales - Our products are more expensive because they are higher quality. Are they? Really? Do you know that? Have you had the products lab tested? This can be touchy so it’s important that we steer clear of saying things that we can not really back up with evidence. 

Myth 10 in Direct Sales - There is little to no risk. Why even mention this? There is not, from a financial standpoint, but some people tie in an emotional risk to any business where they have to talk to others. So, understand this so you can work to move people past it. 

Myths abound. Know them, understand them and just stay true, authentic and a good ally to your friends and prospects. They will appreciate you for that.

7 Keys to a Successful Team Partner Direct Sales Launch Success Key 1 - Direct Sales Warm market list. You can’t build an entire network marketing business with just friends and family, but you can get things launched, create some success and get a handle on what you are doing. Remember, if your business and products are good enough for you, and your new team partner, then they are good enough for both of your friends and family to at least make a decision about for his/herself. 

Success Key 2 - Set your new team partner up with an attitude go positivity. Expect Success, as I always say. Reassure them that they have made an awesome decision in getting started and you are going to work it together. 

Success Key 3 - Teach each person how to make a professional invitation for their list to take a look at what they are doing. When they know what to say, and how to say it, they will feel more comfortable and confident that they know what they are doing and CAN do this. 

Success Key 4 - Prepare your new team partner for the ups and downs of the business. Most will say no, and some will say yes. That’s the reality of any business and there will be peaks and valleys. Oh well, that is the case with any successful endeavor. 

Success Key 5 - Stick close to your new team partners for the first few days, weeks and certainly the first month they are in the business. Cheer them on, encourage them, and acknowledge every success they have. 

Success Key 6 - teach each person the importance of follow up, and not waiting for their prospects to call them and say they are ready. Most won’t. A few do, but most will not so teach them to grow a business faster by staying with their prospects. 

Success Key 7 - Teach them how to enroll and get a new team partner started. Enroll other’s by asking them if they are ready to get started. And, then follow the exact steps above to get their new people launched.

100 Wealthy Women Project

100 Wealthy Women Project 

This is a project that I started thinking about a few years back, but had no name or real sense of how it would all come together. 

I wanted to help women create more overall Wealth in their lives, and not just in finances, but health, community, family and relationships, security, balance, self confidence and self empowerment and more! I knew there was a way to do this – a way to come together collectively as a team. But, I did know what that was going to look like, as I wanted to combine it with my desire to have a global business, too. I met and made friends with a fabulous woman and business/life coach, Karin Lehman, who I interviewed on this podcast last year. Listen to it here.

In December, at a holiday party for our women’s networking group, she leaned over and whispered to me - I know what your gift is. It’s helping women create wealth. Bam! That spoke to me and confirmed my desire to fulfill this mission and project of building a team of strong, amazing women and helping many more create wealth in all areas of their lives. Finally it all came together for me with my Direct Sales company, when it checked the box of so many things I wanted. The questions that are answered through this project - You love working with and inspiring other women You want to look and feel confident and radiant You are interested in Direct Sales, but have never found the right fit You find many male dominated companies are not a fit for you (they don’t speak your “language”) You want to experience more of “Having it all” but are unsure how to do that You want a solid, global business and to work with a team of powerful, yet gracious women You are ready for a change Now, as I mentioned, it may not be for you, but if you know anyone who is looking; frustrated; and ready for a change, but still believes in Direct Sales. please refer them my way.
