The Year in Review 2015 Are you ready to move past the year 2015 - to close it out in style, and welcome in the year 2016. We all have 366 days, because it is a leap year, stretching before us in 2016, and we can write whatever new book we want. Listen in to the show as I share some of my major take aways from what I experienced in my business this past year, and all that I learned from that experience. I started a new Direct Sales Business. I got my coaching certification. I traveled. I took my daughter to the UK to study abroad. And, I ran in way too many directions to make anything just a solid success. Although it was a success, it was not the type of success in any one area I wanted. I learned that focus is key - or should I say I relearned and had it reinforced! Here are questions to ask yourself - 1. What movie genre would best describe the last year of your life (e.g., adventure, tragedy, romance, drama, or comedy)? . 2. What two or three major themes kept recurring in your life the last year? . 3. What accomplishments are you most proud of achieving last year? . 4. What do you feel you should have been acknowledged for, but weren’t? . 5. What disappointments or regrets did you experience last year? . 6. What was missing from your life last year as you look back? Look at major areas of your life. . 7. What major life lesson did you learn last year? Try to break them down into small statements. What was the most memorable part of the year for you? What were the three biggest lessons you learned? Look back at your calendar - what were your priorities? You can always tell by what is listed there. How are you different starting this year, 2016, than you were starting 2015? Who are you grateful for in this past year? Goal Setting For 2016 in Direct Sales It doesn’t matter when you are listening in, you can set goals at ANY time! Notes from today’s show - First Step, review your calendar, month to month, from 2015. We’ll talk more about this on the next show. Then, get your new planner for 2016 and begin to fill in things. Hopefully you’ve already started your business plan for 2016. I have been working on mine for weeks. My focus - Online and offline Parties Networking Events Social Media of course VIP One on One Meetings Vendor shows and events Themes, for each month so I can use these online and offline and maximize my product sales and have a focus I can duplicate this with my team, too, so now they can either just use the same theme and ideas., which keeps it simple or they get some ideas and can come up with their own plan. Make a wish list. Set a timer for 5 minutes and just DREAM, IMAGINE Write down what comes to mind. Look at the list and set a time frame for each goal. Ask yourself - If I could have, do or be anything, what would that be? Set some goals and intentions for this next month, January, 2016. 3 months 6 months 9 months 1 year 2 years 5 years Prioritize and set some deadlines. Ask - what is holding me back? Ask - What steps will I take to clear these blocks? What’s your #1 business goal for 2016? No, add the specifics of what it will take. Get your team involved and see who wants to run along side you! Focus on Progress and Action and Not Results Notes from today’s show - It can be a downer to only look at results. We talk to a few people and no one buys or says yes. We think it must not work, Or , it must be us. We are developing skills, and it takes time. What you say and how you say it does matter. Success Language. Network and build relationships. You will be rewarded or punished based on past behaviors and how you treat people. Their perception of you. Focus on how you are progressing. Track your actions. Focus only on those actions in the beginning. An accounting colleague shared that her average time is 4-6 times to convert a client. Those are touch points she has had with the potential client along the way. How many times are you connecting with your prospects? This is where consistency is so important. Are you working your list? Have you made your list? How many contacts are you making daily and weekly off that list? Are you sticking with your business plan no matter what the immediate outcome is? Are you asking for referrals? Are you creating new warm market? How are you doing that? If you are networking and getting out in your community, you must show up to be taken seriously. Are you making contacts when you are out and about? At coffee shops? Standing in line? My makeup experience at Vons. How about talking to other parent’s at kid activities? Or are you in a shell? Don’t focus on who buys or joins. Focus on making real connections, setting up one on ones and staying in touch. This is a business of constant and repeated exposures of your business. You must be sharing what you are doing. Focus on the progress you are making in your growth and business skill development and your team and income will grow with it. Accountability in Your Direct Sales Business Think of the people who have the type of success you want. What do they all have in common? A work ethic! How is your work ethic? If the top income earner in your company met you for coffee and asked you to get out your calendar and show/tell what you did last week to work your business, would you be happy with what you have to show and tell? Be your own best coach. Track your actions. Track your results. Use a simple notebook or text note on your computer or phone. Set goals at the beginning of the week. These can be based around intentions, because you control that. Tally actions and results at the end. Reward yourself for achievements. Be tough on yourself for falling short. Consider getting an accountability partner. Not your upline or anyone on your team. Ideally, someone cross line who you can grow with. Ideally, you want someone who matches your drive and commitment. It can take some time to find this. First, determine what you are truly committed to and then let your upline know. Ask if she/he might be able to help you locate a few people who match this same intensity, Have a few phone conversations first. Decide together how you want to set things up - check in twice weekly? Daily, Phone, text, FB? Decide on rewards and consequences. Maybe a fine to each other. Be sure you set a timer and don’t let it ever turn into a complaining or negative environment. Be honest with each other and give each other space to leave or move on if it’s not working. This is why it should not be someone super close to you. Keep it more business oriented. I’ve mentioned we are going to do a book of the month on this show for the coming year. It’s in the show notes so you can find and reference it. This is not a Network Marketing book, but it is awesome for anyone who wants to get Unstuck! We all have fear, and some fears never go away. But, that doesn’t mean we have to let them limit us. From the book - With dynamic techniques and profound advice, Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway has guided so many readers around the world to turn their fear, indecision and anger into power, action and love. Learn the tools that will vastly improve your ability to handle any situation so that you can become powerful and decisive in the face of your fears. Discover that everyone has the same fears but, by applying the wisdom that Susan Jeffers offers in this breakthrough book, you can literally feel the fear…and do it anyway! In this case, you know that you don't like the fact that lack of trust in yourself is stopping you from getting what you want out of life. Knowing this creates a very clear, even laser-like, focus on what needs to be changed. You don't have to scatter your energy wondering why. It doesn't matter. What matters is that you begin now to develop your trust in yourself, until you reach the point where you will be able to say: WHATEVER HAPPENS TO ME, GIVEN ANY SITUATION, I CAN HANDLE IT! Mastery Vs Overload in Your Home Business Mastery is a critical component to success in your business, wouldn’t you say? And, sometimes when we start a new business, in order to get more out of life, we can fall into overwhelm and feel like we are spinning our wheels. So, let’s talk about how we make things simple. Think about this - how many books have you read or are you reading as part of your direct sales journey? And, how much of what you learned have you taken action on? Or mastered? How many videos are you watching, blogs are you reading, podcasts are you listening to or courses are you buying? I met a man once at an online marketing seminar who had charged over $10,000 and still had not even created a blog. Let’s make it easy for you. What is ONE skill you most want to master NOW, and first? Take that one skill and challenge yourself to work on it before moving on to anything else, and then find someone else to teach it to. MASTERY is key to success in anything. Are you skilled at contacting, inviting and presenting yet? Have you made your list and worked through it? Have you developed your success language? Do you have a daily and weekly action plan developed yet for your business? Or, are you guilty of hopping from one thing to the next. Social Media can wreak havoc on the mastering anything. We see and hear of something and are on to the next big social media tool. Why? What is the magic sauce you think you see with that platform? What is it about that one platform that’s going to make a difference, if you haven’t mastered the skills needed to connect with others. If someone approaches you about your business, do you have a system in place to take them through to share the business? Are you prepared to ask them to join you and then get them started? There is a statistic out there that most people spend 98% studying and only 2% taking action. Don’t let that be you. Weekly Scheduling and Planning in Your Home Business The last few shows have focused on journaling, creating consistency, a calendar and planner and these are all tools to help you be successful. As I record this show, it’s December, 2015 and we are about to move into a fresh new year, filled with hope and promise. My goal is to get you really set for success. Think about this - how many times do you wake up, jump out of bed and really know what you are going to do in your direct sales business each day? Do you have a written plan? A list of people and action steps on the list? Most people don’t. However, the top income earners do, and since success leaves clues, let’s share what that scheduling and planning can look like for you to have the success you want. How much time do you think it’s really going to take for you to build a successful business? What if you would take one focused hour each day, with specific action steps, and work your business? I’m going to make this easy, because you don’t even have to have one full hour at a time. We are going to break that one hour down into fifteen minute segments, with undivided attention. Before long, you might find more than fifteen minutes for each segment, and believe me, your business growth will show it. The key is to be focused and dedicated. It is going to involve picking up the phone, but what if it’s only for fifteen minutes. The key is to stick with the Power Hour system, which is what this is called. The challenge is that most people begin to make excuses and find reasons why they are just too busy. But really? Four fifteen minute segments a day - who can’t make that time in their schedule, if they are really committed? Here are some ideas for those 15 minute segments - Customer Connection calls/messages - 15 minutes of reaching out to share just your products and ask if you might share a sample, or get together. Prospecting Connection Calls/messages - 15 minutes of reaching out to share the business side, asking for referrals. Follow up calls/messages - 15 minutes of following up with people you have talked with in the past about either the products or the business. Team calls/messages - 15 minutes to reach out to your team and just touch base. Now, I come from the old school of making phone calls, but more and more people operate with text and Facebook messenger, so that is why I call is calls/messages. The nice thing about Facebook messenger is that you can see when a message is read! You can also factor in other blocks of time in your week for other social media tasks such as Blogging, because as you know, I am a huge fan of blogging to create leads and expand your status as an “expert” in your field. The key, above all, is to put it into your calendar. Those 15 minute segments each day and even if you work full time, you can make this happen. 15 minutes before work, 15 minutes at lunch, 15 minutes right after work, and 15 minutes after dinner. Even with children, getting them self engaged for 15 minutes gets easier and easier. Another key thing is to create a note on your phone for reminders of people who you need to follow up with, or who come to mind. — I would love to hear how you are finding this simple process. Consistency in Your Home Business As I record this show, it’s December, 2015 and we are about to move into a fresh new year, filled with hope and promise. As you reflect back on how your business has gone this year, ask yourself this question - Have I been consistent? Have I been consistent in the areas that I need to for success? Chances are, if you are not where you want to be, you might be answering those questions with a big NO! Consistency is your practice to mastery. 10,000 hours to mastery in anything. Malcolm Gladwell - the Outliers. Notes from Today’s Show: Start with your why. Plan your year, month, weeks and day. Write it down. Use a calendar. Create a vision. Plan and write it down on Sunday, track it at the end of the week. When you know what to do, and when to do it, you will be more relaxed and productive. Get an Accountability partner. Focus on your progress and not your results. Up your game by paying attention to where you can improve. Taking regular action steps will reinforce consistency, because it becomes a habit. Journaling For Home Business Success Last year, my good friend Lisa Grossmann sent me a blank journal for the holidays! On the front, it says - Forever is Composed of NOWS! I had been contemplating journaling again for a while, and I looked at this as a nudge from my mentor and the universe to get after it!
