QA024 Gen Y Go to College or Start Home Business

Hi, it’s Jackie Ulmer and welcome to show 24  in the Q and A edition of the Street Smart Wealth, Profit in Your PJs Podcast

Show notes can be found at JackieUlmer.com/QA24

Today’s question is  more of an interview. I met the most charming gal at the recent ANMP event in Dallas. She’s 17, and facing tough decisions about today’s challenging issues of College, lack of jobs and how they feel about Network Marketing as a career choice. This is a great interview for Gen Y and parents of Gen Y and beyond!

SPONSOR

Successful sponsoring in Network Marketing really starts with knowing WHAT to say. Do you ever struggle because you don;t want to feel stupid when approaching someone or what to say to objections? I have coached on good success language for year. From juicy one liners, to overcoming objections, to how to address the pyramid issue, when you’ve been involved in other companies and everything in between. StreetSmartScripts.com is your ticket to confidence and becoming a sponsoring hero!

Today’s question is…. I’m 17, maybe 22 - what about college and going to school? There aren’t many jobs; should I amass a bunch of debt or look at Network Marketing?

ANSWER

Let’s hear from Charlotte Thompson, from the Chicago area. She’s bold, brilliant and has her head squarely on her shoulders. She has some great insights for all of us!

Charlotte:

College is so expensive, should I go at all?

Is it worth it? They come out, in debt, move in with parents and their debt just follows them.

Or, should I take a GAP year and get started in a Network Marketing business? There are many people who have not gone to college who have been so successful.

In network marketing, if you can talk to people, and learn how to talk to people, you can be so successful.

I have grown up with Network Marketing and I love it, it’s just finding the right time?

Can someone this young stay focused? Well, there is no other option.

It’s sink or swim. Work hard, or it’s just not going to happen!

Questions I asked Charlotte:

How would you see yourself starting your business? Approach those your age, or those your parents age?

What about start up costs and the money to get started? Especially for “kids” your age?

What would you study if you went to college?

Do you see yourself as someone who would fit into the corporate mold, 8-5, behind a desk?

A message you want to deliver to the Baby Boomer generation, pushing our kids hard for college and such?

SSW066 Mark Yarnell Network Marketing Legend Interview

Today, I am interviewing Mark Yarnell, a true legend in our profession.

I used to listen to Mark’s training CDS on my portable CD player at the gym. I am dating us both here, and I am sure they were on cassette before CDs.

I have learned a lot from him over the years and because I have listened to him so intently in my ear buds, I really felt like I know him. When we chatted on the phone, I realized it was the first time we had ever really talked live, and I have still not met him face to face. And, I look forward to that day.

He had me cracking up through much of the interview, and it truly was a fantastic hour!

I hope you enjoy it, too.

Mark has very average beginnings, as he’ll share. He sure changed all of that with the empire and success he has created. It just goes to show that anyone, really, can do it too, with commitment!

Before we get into the interview, here is today’s show sponsor -

Did you know you can accelerate your success when you feel confident about what to say to break the ice with your prospects, as well as how to answer questions, objection, and follow up? And, how to deal with that sticky question - are you involved in another one of those deals? Learn the Success Language of Street Smart Scripts over at StreetSmartScripts.com

Jackie:  Well, Mark, I have to tell you it’s absolutely a pleasure to have the opportunity to interview you.  You’ve been one of my heroes and one of my mentors since my early days 20 years ago when I started in network marketing.  And so it’s a treat and a privilege and an honor to be able to interview you here today.  So thanks so much for spending some time with us here.

Mark:  Oh you bet, Jackie.  I appreciate the opportunity.  When I heard from you, I was excited to do it.  So thank you.

Jackie:  Well absolutely.  Well before we get into some of your background and all the amazing stuff that I know you have to share about our awesome profession, do you have a favorite success quote or some words of wisdom that you’ll share with us?

Mark:  Yeah, I mean actually, believe it or not, it came from my father at a very early age and it really has guided me through all my career in network marketing.  My dad said that, and he called it the, out of his arrogance he called it Yarnell’s Law.  I’m not calling it that, but he did.  It’s the law of six, three, two.  Six words, saw by three words, saw by two words.  Do one thing at a time, do it right, finish it.  And I have been guided through my whole career by those words of wisdom and I’ve found that having the focus to do one thing at a time and doing it the right way and then not starting something else until I’ve finished that particular objective, it’s served me very well.  So that’s kind of my favorite motivational inspirational quote, but it’s also kind of a substantive way of going about life, I’ve found.

Jackie:  Well I love that and I love the fact that it came from your father because I think that’s a strong testament to good mentors in our lives that guide us through and it’s always fun when it starts close to home.

Mark:  You bet.  Yeah.  Dad was a great man.

Jackie:  Well tell us a little bit of your background before you got started in network marketing.  What was kind of your career path?

Mark:  Well I started out.  I got very fortunate at a young age.  A friend of mine whose father had been a car dealer was able to come out of retirement and buy a car dealership right after Bobby and I got out of college.  And I was called by him and he said, “We’ve got a little car dealership over in Oklahoma and, if you’ll come over and learn from us, we’re gonna buy another one and then we’ll own two dealerships.”  The guy’s name was Bob Mayfield.  Wonderful guy.  I grew up with Bobby in Springfield, Missouri.  So I began in the car business and I learned from some real masters in a small town in Oklahoma and, sure enough about two years into the process, another Chevrolet dealership became available over in a small community and we bought it.

So I spent my first few years in the car business at a very young age and it was really the fortuitous intersection of blundering into it at the right time, young time in my life.  But I found that I really wasn’t cut out for dog-eat-dog capitalism.  It got to the place where I was working 60, 70 hour weeks.  I had originally wanted to be a minister, believe it or not.  I grew up in a fairly religious family and after several years in the car business I decided it just was not a good fit for me.  So applied for seminary in Kansas City, was accepted and went up and went through two years of seminary.  And then actually wound up my first church was in Knoxville, Tennessee and I was transferred to Kansas City and ultimately Austin, Texas in the early 80s, which is where I was first introduced to network marketing.

I was very vulnerable at that time in my life because the Texas economy had really cratered and real estate was horrible, oil prices were way down and what happened, Jackie, was a lot of my wealthiest contributors, the big tithers in the church, were going Chapter 11 and bankrupt.  A lot of people don’t know this but a lot of times in a church there’ll be eight or ten families that are actually the biggest supporters of the whole church ‘cause when they tithe it’s a pretty substantial amount.  So our revenue stream was drying up in the church and my income had been cut in half when a friend brought me the business opportunity that led me into network marketing.  They used to have a picture of me in the seminary, I actually worked selling cars while I was going to seminary and that was back in the years around the Nixon time.  Somebody actually put a picture on the wall in seminary, “Would you buy a used god from this man?”  And everybody got a big laugh from that.

So it’s been an interesting trajectory through life.  I’ve done a lot of things, a lot of things that are polar opposites, but it’s sure been a great life.

Jackie:  Well that’s great.  So it was a friend who approached you with the opportunity?  Was it someone from your congregation or

Mark:  It was.  As a matter of fact, it was the guy who was on steering committee who hired me as their minister.  He called me and he said, he was feeling kind of guilty because the income had been so depleted and, I think in an effort to absolve his guilt, he came over to my house one day and he was all excited.  I remember the only thing he had was a dog eared Xerox check copy for $112,000 and he was just breathlessly telling me that there was a guy on the check that was making this much every month and he wanted to tell me about this thing.  He thought it would be good for me given my income had been depleted so much. And I remember thinking well this is the silliest thing I ever heard in my life.  Nobody makes that much a month.

But yeah, to answer your question specifically, it was a friend, a member of the congregation and he showed up with a big check copy an that’s what got me started.  That was back in April of ’86.

Jackie:  Wow!  That’s awesome.  April of ’86.  That’s a lot of money now, but that was really a lot of money then.

Mark:  It really was.  It really was.  I couldn’t conceptualize it.  It didn’t make sense to me that there were people, well when he showed me the check I thought, man, that guy’s making a good annual income.  That’s a good salary.  I mean $112,000 in a year’s pretty darn good ‘cause I’d never made that.  And when he told me it was a monthly check, I was a little bit more than I can even handle.  I just couldn’t believe it.  It was a real conscious shock to me to know that there were people making that much a month and frankly I started out just to prove that he couldn’t be telling me the truth.  I started by doing a bunch of research actually.

Jackie:  So you didn’t jump in right away.

QA023 How to Gain Momentum in Your Network Marketing Business

Hi, it’s Jackie Ulmer and welcome to show QA 23 in the Q and A edition of the Street Smart Wealth, Profit in Your PJs Podcast

Today’s question is -  How can I get momentum going in my Network Marketing business?

SPONSOR

Is it really possible to build a network marketing business online? to have people come to me, already sold on a business? Yes, and you can Visit SocialMediaBackstagePass.comfor details on this complete coaching and training program.

Today’s question is….   emailed in by Don, who asks - How can I get momentum going in my Network Marketing business?

Thanks for the question, Don and here is the

ANSWER

Starts with Massive Action

Results show up slower most often but believe me, things are going on behind the scenes.

Would you rather go slow or fast

In the beginning it is all you.

As you keep at it, more and more people join the team and help. Some will, and some won’t, some will later and some never will.

Let’s look at it like this -

You get started, you put in 5 hours.

You sponsor Joe. Joe is also going to put in 5 hours. Now you have 10 hours a week going into your business, and you are only putting in 5.

Joe’s 5 hours are amazing because they multiply, creating 5 for him and 5 for you.

You and Joe then go each sponsor one, and each of those people put in 5 hours.

Now, you have 20 hours a week, and yet you are still committed to just 5.

Double that number the next week if all four of you put in 1 more each. Now, it’s a full 40 hours.

Do you see how duplication happens and how momentum is gained?

It starts with your decision, commitment and then massive action.

And, it is critical not to slow down and start managing.

Lead by example, inspire, don’t try to motivate.

I hope that helps you, Don, and everyone else listening who may be asking - how do I gain momentum in my network marketing business.

This and other great training is available at SocialMediaBackstagepass.com which includes a complete course on network marketing training tips.

Today’s question is…. How do I teach my team how to build their business online? This was emailed in by Marjorie, so Marjorie, thanks so much and here is the answer…

ANSWER

This is a great question because we know that duplication is the key to success online.

And, simple online skills can be duplicated. And, I struggled with how to do this for a long time.

First, I learned that duplication is a choice. Calling lead lists duplicates. But I don’t like doing it. Working Networking events duplicates, but it’s not a great fit for me.

Do you see how duplication is a choice?

First, think of what YOU are doing to build online and develop a simple training for your team with this.

For me, it is this -

Blog

Lead Capture

Marketing Funnels - Social Media

Content Creation

and Marketing, which takes me back to Marketing funnels and Social Media

Blog - your hub of the universe. Check the show notes for previous podcasts I did on this and the other components. http://jackieulmer.com/qa022

Lead Capture - gotta build the list, just like offline. In my podcast on building the list, you’ll learn some tricks!

Marketing funnels - how do you drive traffic to your blog so you can get the opt in, build the relationship and sponsor them ultimately? Social Media is a huge boost. Focus on one or two to begin with, and decide from the big 7 -

Facebook

Twitter

Instagram

Pinterest

Youtube

Google Plus

LinkedIn

Learn More in my Simple Social Media E-book

Content Creation - you must be creating content of value that intrigues people. Articles, blog posts, videos, audios, webinars, pdfs and free reports, to name a few.

Marketing - market all of that valuable free content using social media.

Follow me on Twitter to see how I do this - @jackieulmer and on Facebook - JackieUlmer.com/fb

You can find me under jackieulmer on all other social sites, as well.

The best way we can teach is to share what we are doing and focus on the ones willing to learn and model that!

Thanks for the question, Marjorie.

QA021 Overcoming Call Reluctance in Your Network Marketing Business

Hi, it’s Jackie Ulmer and welcome this Q and A edition of the Street Smart Wealth, Profit in Your PJs Podcast

This is show 21 and  Show notes can be found at JackieUlmer.com/QA021

Today’s question is -  How do I overcome call reluctance?

SPONSOR

Is it really possible to build a network marketing business online? to have people come to me, already sold on a business? Yes, and you can Visit SocialMediaBackstagePass.comfor details on this complete coaching and training program.

Today’s question is…. How to overcome Call Reluctance? Emailed in by PJ Stratford

So, PJ, here are some thoughts!

ANSWER

What are you reluctant about?

It usually comes down to fear.

This gets to the heart of it. Is it telling people you are building a network marketing business and asking them to take a look and give you their opinion?

What is it REALLY? What is the fear?

Let’s take a look at some things that might help -

What’s your burning, compelling why?

Is it stronger than your fear of what others think?

Do you know what to say? Have you practiced it? Are you worried about sounding like an idiot?

Get ideas at StreetSmartScripts.com

Are you aware that you are offering an opportunity and not asking for a favor?

What is the worst thing that could happen and would you survive it?

Your ego is in the way - let your ego take the hit - meaning be strong enough in your own belief in yourself that you are undaunted by anyone else’s lack of education around what you are doing.

Our ego can direct how we interpret everything that goes on in our daily experience. We know that our perception of any event will determine what we get from that experience. Was it positive or negative? Was it an opportunity or setback? The answers depend upon our perception.

Remember - other people’s opinions. You can’t offer an opinion on what I am doing unless you have at least taken a look at it and can talk about it in an educated way. When you are wiling to do that, then we can have a conversation!

QA020 How to Transition From Employee to Entrepreneur

Hi, it’s Jackie Ulmer and welcome this Q and A edition of the Street Smart Wealth, Profit in Your PJs Podcast

This is show 20 and Show notes can be found at JackieUlmer.com/QA020

Today’s question is - How do I transition from Employee and develop the mindset of an entrepreneur?

SPONSOR

Solid success Language is critical to your growth in Network Marketing. Feeling confident and knowing what to say when you make your list and begin calling people, to share what you are doing; to knowing how to handle objections, and dealing with questions that arise when maybe you’ve been involved in other businesses in the past. StreetSmartScripts will teach you the right things to say at all the right times. http://StreetSmartScripts.com

Today’s question is…. from Heather, by email, who asks - How do I transition from Employee and develop the mindset of an entrepreneur?

ANSWER

It’s really about education and personal development.

As employees we put in a set amount of hours for a set amount of pay, and if we don’t get that pay at the end of the set time frame, we would quit and move on.

Most people won't really understand what that means. Many will come from an employee background with an employee mindset. They won't understand investing in themselves or their business; they are used to having a boss telling them what to do, and they are used to trading time for dollars – 1 hours work for one set unit of pay.

In Network Marketing, we are almost guaranteed that we are going to put in a LOT of time for very little pay in the beginning. And, as we stick with it, over time, we will ale agronomical pay in relationship to the time we put in.

Develop your Network Marketing business skills, too.

But, mindset and the stories you run through your mind are the most critical to your success.

Give people the same script and leads list and the results will be different, largely based on mindset.

Nothing is out of your grasp if you work hard to achieve it. Learning from your mistakes are an important part of the process. They are not failures, they are learning opportunities.

3 Questions to Ask Yourself -

Where do I want to go?

What am I willing to do to get there?

What is my compelling reason why?

I have been asked over and over again how much time I spend out online marketing my business, engaging with friends, fans and followers and just having fun.

The answer is - not as much as you might think, it just seems that way. And, it’s designed to seem that way.

I accidentally stumbled onto how powerful it was to build a name and presence for myself, and create a lot of links that pointed people to my blog, and my business.

One day, I just popped my name into Yahoo, Google wasn't the big player yet, and I found over 100,000 links and references to me. This was about 2001 and I was shocked. I had been online about 18 months, and had no idea this was happening.

I was just busy going about my day, and my business and my passion about reaching and connecting with people online.

And, that’s how green I was, I had not idea and no premeditated thought about this happening.

Once I saw it I got the power of be everywhere.

Think of this -

How many prospects are in your house that you haven’t talked to? Probably none, right?

So, if you want to find 3 people today to talk to about your business, what must you do? Get out, go to Starbucks, a networking event, or anywhere to connect with people, right?

A big mistake many first time bloggers make is thinking - if I build it, they will come. Not true. Not for quite a while, anyway.

They spend lots of time creating content and yet no one shows up, and they wonder why.

Takes a long time for Search Engines to find you. Videos can make it happen faster.

But, it’s a slow grow if you are relying on Search Engines. I didn’t have that kind of time or knowledge. so…

No time for SEO, or Search Engines Optimization so I focused on getting out and marketing myself, meeting others and giving them chance to know me and become interested.

So, your own marketing efforts are how to start the process of being everywhere!

Here was my strategy back in early 2000 and is still the same, mostly today.

Write one new article a week.

Share on article sites, my blog and email to my list.

Post article with bio box out o discussion forums and areas where allowed.

Send it to other site authors who accepted submissions

Spend 30 minutes a week on SEO, one page at a time.

The rest of the time, I was on forums and discussion groups where my target audience was, engaging, asking questions, answering questions and getting to know people out there. I was building a name, a presence and what would later come to be known as a brand for me!

I was becoming the E F Hutton in my niche and people were becoming interested and clicking back to my site, joining my newsletter and many, joining my business.

BINGO! It was WORKING, like a charm!

As I did this, all of the answers and comments and article sharing I did created back links to my site, and put it into the Search Engines. I had no clue that was happening! SCORE! Bonus!

So, Think outside of the Blog and BE everywhere. You are the one in charge of driving traffic to your content and your blog.

Become a multi media machine - become the go to person in your niche. You want people to say - wow, I kept running into your name every where I went, so I decided I better pay attention. Remember E F Hutton - when E F Hutton talks, people listen - old commercial from the 80s.

Today, here are my top lead sources, and it’s really not unlike my early days. I do the same, it’s just the platforms have changed. -

Facebook, YouTube, Twitter and iTunes - yep, the iTunes one might surprise you!

Here is what I hear - I was looking for MLM training, I found you on iTunes looking for audio training content. Now, I'm a blog subscriber.

At the end of the show, I’m going to give you a checklist for your blog to make sure it is enticing and user friendly.

Let me share how these social media sources have built a “be everywhere platform” for me.

Facebook - It’s a natural fit for me. I enjoy spending time there and interacting, way beyond just business. I post my content there, which is all generic, I post also on my business page - http://jackieulmer.com/fb

I built out a profile to give people links and info about me, and my goal is for them to click there once they become intrigued and want to know more.

I share inspiring text images, engage with others and share photos and things going on. I share lifestyle photos, fun stuff, vacations, family times, funny things and so on.

I get in the newsfeed, I have my friends in lists so I am check in with more people than just what FB shows me. I am involved in groups and pages.

I show up consistently and check in 3-4 times a day, in short bursts. I use a kitchen timer to stay on task.

Over time, more and more people like, comment and share my stuff, and it puts me out into a bigger audience.

Now, let’s talk about  Youtube - amazingly good. 3 billion video views a day, #2 SE, who owns it, Google? People have launched successful careers and businesses through Youtube alone. Create videos to answer questions, even more personal and you can send to the person and make yourself memorable. That leaves you with content to share with others who ask the same.

You can do screen shot videos too. There are free services, Jing for one. Paid, better alternatives - Mac Screenflow, PC - Camtasia Studio

Find top videos that are related, and look at keywords, copy, look at description - copy concept.

People will find you through related videos…at the end. Use tags to make this happen more naturally.

With YT, I share my videos on my Blog, embedding them; I post on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and so on. And, if the content is evergreen, meaning not date specific, I post it over and over again, spaced out over time, catching a new audience each time. And, those who have seen it before seldom remember.

People go to youtube searching for education and information, how tos. It’s a powerful place to be found band double dip. To be found in YT and Google.

Don’t forget, all of this training and more is accessible at http://SocialMediaBackStagePass.com

Now, let’s talk about Twitter, kind of a newcomer for me!

I didn’t get it, til I got it.

Didn’t have time.

Didn’t see the value.

Was used to Facebook and I could see this was WAY different thanFB.

I sought out influential leaders, not in Network Marketing but more SM marketing.

I began to research, watch and model.

I started marketing my content there, especially my podcast, on a much bigger scale and BOOM!

It exploded my blog traffic, retweets and opt ins!

I use Google Analytics so I can see where traffic comes from.

It got so awesome, I hired and trained my daughter to become my SM Marketing assistant for Twitter updates, content and my Facebook page. I don’t outsource interaction, but content marketing is fine.

I did a podcast on Twitter for biz and it can be found at http://JackieUlmer.com/021

IF you want to learn from me, follow me on Twitter - @jackieulmer

So, moving on to Podcasts - wow!

Found these completely by accident.

Had heard the term and knew nothing about what they were, or how they worked, other than they were somehow linked in iTunes and you could listen.

Home Business Radio Network - awake one night and played with APP - remember, I am not a techie.

It opened up a whole new WORLD. I started listening to one other, which led me to another, and then another. Mostly Internet Marketing, not Network Marketing.

One day I said - why don’t I ditch my weekly generic call, which ties me to a schedule and start doing a podcast, which ties me to iTunes and takes me WAY out there!

So, this podcast launched in Fed 2013 and I MADE a DECISION and a COMMITMENT to be consistent for one year and then evaluate. Well, the rest is history.

Today, I have a 5 day a week show, with M-W and Friday, the Q and A show, devoted to your questions.

iTunes - podcast, expanded my reach into international markets. In fact, please comment in show notes if you found me and/or are intl. Can listen anywhere - mobile devices - smart phones, gym, driving, walking, sleeping…there is a connection made with the voice that doesn't happen with the written blog.

Being in someone’s head and ears takes things to a new level. Since you are listening, you can probably relate.

I did not need fancy equipment. I use my Mac with a decent microphone and all of the editing software is included. And, using and uploading to iTunes is free. I do pay $20 a month for storage and stats then I don't use my hosting bandwidth. It's easy and well worth it.

My plan it to create a course to train network marketers specifically on how to do a podcast but here is the key - you must commit. You’ll look like an idiot if you “pod fade!”

I also create a blog post for my podcasts and then share it on social media. So, I am "everywhere" with my podcast because it is on iTunes, in google player, Stitcher and, now all of the popular smartphone apps for listening this way. When I google my podcast name, I am blown away at the links.

Interviews are a great way to fill your podcast.

Be intentional and on point - don't waste people's time.

So, the key is create content and then market that content through social media, develop a group of raving fans by going value and making them feel special, letting them know they are special, and they will help you “be everywhere!”

Social Media - share content and drive back to your blog. Youtube to blog, and share post. podcasts to blog, and share blog. Re post content. Keep track of highly trafficked posts.

Engage with others. It won't work otherwise. Be a real person and a real friend.

Groups and pages

Build an Email List - critical. Think about this - when do you check your email for the first time in the day? Build a relationship with that list. Offer value over and over and sell on occasion.

Content Pyramid - Blog, Social Media, Podcast - the blog is at the top, and the bottom two corners are anchors to drive traffic to my blog.

Blog - here are the critical items you need.

You have about 7 seconds to impress people when they first arrive. If they know you ahead, that time goes up. But, it’s still a short amount of time!

Make sure you have an Opt in form on every page.

Well laid out, not confusing - a confused mind says no!

Make sure you have a clear path to what you want people to do. Here are mine at http://JackieUlmer.com - sign up for my newsletter. START Here.  First impressions. Share ability! Use social links.

Okay, so there you have my “be everywhere” strategy from early 2000, and still what I do today. It has not changed that much and I often chuckled. As much as things change, online, things stay the same. Marketing, connecting and valuing people NEVER changes!

Here are your 5 Action Items for today -

Take a look at your blog and get it in order if it’s lame.

Make sure you have lead capture on there, above all.

Layout a weekly strategy for creating content. Remember, the work you do ONCE pays for you over and over.

Keep a text note file of your content, blog posts and the links. This makes it much easier to share it over and over again, very simply and set up tools to help with this.

Make a DECISION and a COMMITMENT.

Today’s question is…. I’m new, or I’ve just started someone new, what should we be doing that very FIRST hour in the business?

We have a tendency to want to dump every bit of knowledge we have learned since we started on our new person, and this can totally overwhelm them and take them right out of the game.

ANSWER - so I was chatting with Networking Pro Lisa Grossmann, who’s interview I did a few weeks back JackieUlmer.com/061 and asked her to share some solid steps for success with this, with you.

Lisa…

Your number one job is to get rid of their fear.

Most people are scared, confused and they fear feeling like a fool in front of their friends. and feeling rejected.

They don’t know what to say.

Most people are going to say no, and most people don’t do any particular “career” in their lives, and that is okay. They aren’t going to choose Network Marketing either.

They don’t need to know how to explain the compensation plan or the product line. You can’t teach them everything they need to know in an hour.

What you can do is teach them to ask 3 questions -

Are you happy?

Do you have a plan to change the state of unhappiness you are living in?

Do you want to see one?

Teach them how to go to their network, their closest friends and family and ask them to try the product.

Will you try it, be my customer and give me a testimonial. That’s what I need from you…your help…to start my business. If you don’t like it, I’ll never ask you again.

Phase 1 of any business is the “garage phase” - even Bill Gates.

Is it really possible to build a network marketing business online? to have people come to me, already sold on a business? Yes, and you can

Visit http://SocialMediaBackstagePass.com for details on this complete coaching and training program.

Today’s question is…. from Kelli who writes in - How do I get more bookings? Also, how do I get more people to take a look at my business or products?

So, those of you in Network Marketing, keep listening. I have some ideas for YOU, too.

ANSWER

This is a great question for both party plan and traditional Network Marketing. Whether you call them home parties, shows, in homes, Private Business Receptions, workshops or something else, this way of building a business has been highly effective for YEARS!

Party plan companies know that bookings are part of the plan, but many network marketing companies are revitalizing this with wrap parties, juice tastings, shake parties, greeting card workshops and so on, just to give some ideas.

So, there are essentially 3 ways to get bookings:

1. Start with your list and pick up the phone.

2. Book parties from parties - IDEAL

3. Get creative and get out there

Most of us start with method 1 as we launch our business, and then the idea is to expand and grow from that.

Success in booking parties really starts with your own mindset around it, so do a check in. How do YOU feel about your parties and the overall experience?

Are you going into it thinking about what you will GET?

Or, are you looking at the value you can provide to your party hosts and the guests?

I recommend REALLY spending some time on the second one - begin to look at creating extreme value so that it really is a win win.

The reality is - when you call people, here is what you are asking them to do -

Take time out of their already crazy life, call all of their friends, clean their house, spend money and prepare refreshments so you can make some money.

That may be a little extreme, but think about it - really.

Right now, if you are having challenges booking parties and getting others involved, that is where you are focused - in negativity.

So, first let’s start with how you are introducing the party experience when you first call people. What are you saying? What compelling language do you use that let’s them know right up front that there is a win-win in this?

The main reason people book is because it was fun; and they want a fun time for their friends. They are more concerned about their friends experience than their own experience. "Your friends are going to love it!" Let's make it a fun, girl's night out. Get your booking talk in order. Don’t let it be about your products or how great they are.

That can be a side benefit.

Here is what YOU and your special guests are going to experience when we are together….

Second, take a look at your party experience, as you have it developed now. Go through each piece of it. What is compelling

Here's the reality that you must know about home parties, or any kind of in home business experience – It simply must be about the experience the guests have, not your products or business. That experience at the current party is what will make others want to repeat the same thing at their own home, with their own friends.

Your #1 priority is to connect with each person as much as possible and provide a fun, high energy and yet relaxing experience. If not, there is no way anyone will want to repeat the experience, especially if it was not so stellar with their friends.

Here are some ideas -

Make the first 15 minutes about purely connecting with the guests.

Be part of the crowd yourself, not in sales mode. Ask lots of questions of others. Sincere, genuine questions - not about how they might use your products or benefit from the business,

The more you can connect with your guests during this time, the easier it will be to book more parties and sponsor more people.

Coming back to what makes your party experience special -

Ask yourself - what sets me and my party experience apart from others who do the same thing. What makes my party experience special? And what would make someone want to book a party with me? Here are a few ideas:

◦You’re fun to be around. You keep it light and upbeat!

◦Free & reduced product

◦Fun night out with friends

◦To help the current hostess achieve her goals

◦Theme parties - which are fun

Now, for you network marketers, there is a lesson in here for you, too. Think about your mindset, your language and how the experience is for your guest…whether on the phone, taking them through an overview, or meeting one on one, or an in home presentation. What are you doing to create an experience?

Your number one goal is just to GET them to the presentation where the tools take over and do the rest. What can you do to increase your odds of getting them there? Theme parties are a great way. People want to have fun. Don’t deceive them into thinking it’s just a Hawaiian Luau or something like that. Make sure they know it’s about business with a fun twist.

If your company incentive trip this year is to Hawaii, you can create the theme around that and let people know you have set a goal to win it. Or, maybe it’s Mexico, Europe or whatever. Get creative with it and get people involved and excited, too! Invite them to set a goal to come, too!

So, there are some ideas. I hope this has been helpful.

Good luck in your business

Today’s question is….

Two parts - one is - how do I work with my spouse as a couple, and the second is - how do I get my spouse involved working with me; how do I get he/she to “see” what I see.

ANSWER - I caught up with Biz Coach Leslie Hocker, who works with her husband Ron Forrester, in the business and asked her to share some wisdom, since they not only met through Network Marketing, but also work together.

My own experience is that my husband and I started working our business together when we began, back in January 1994, but the reality is - I wanted him to do it all. I wanted to cash the big checks, but I didn’t really want to have to DO the work. I was happy to stand beside hime on stage, looking adoringly at him as we carted off that gangster check!

I didn’t want to get out of my comfort zone; I didn’t want to make my warm market list and call people; and I didn’t want to let people know I was in network marketing.

Well, about 3 years into our business, he had had enough. He believed in Network Marketing, but was tired of the travel and the much of it. He agreed to support me 100% to keep going, but he was done.

Boy, I was mad, because that meant I was going to have to do it! Yikes!

Well, long story short, I got over myself and managed to build that successful business and create that successful income. I had to dig down deep, but I did it.

Ok, let’s hear from Leslie Hocker:

Most couples don’t come to work together by meeting through Network Marketing, so her situation is a little different.

Women, if you want your husband to see what you are doing as valuable and to get it, use third party tools. Get them on the phone with someone successful, get them to watch a video or to an events.

And, this is the same for men. So, get them to see a bigger picture. Treat them just like a Network Marketing prospect.

It’s natural to judge the person who is introducing us; and so you want them to see that the business is bigger than you.

Get your spouse to a Network Marketing event, and create multiple exposures and then allow them to see it for themselves.

Be patient. Get other people to tell them their story.

We have a tendency to say - you need to do this with me.

Let them come to you through the same process.

Communication at the very beginning is a key part.

If your mouth is moving, you should be pointing to a tool!

Best advice - don’t try to coach your spouse!

QA015 Why Do People Quit Network Marketing So Quickly?

Hey, it’s Jackie Ulmer and welcome this Q and A edition of the Street Smart Wealth, Profit in Your PJs Podcast, where I answer your burning questions and get you on your way to the Network Marketing Hall of Fame.

This is show QA015 and today’s question…today’s MILLION dollar question is - why do people quit Network Marketing.

SPONSOR

As more than 3 million people a day go online looking for a business, you may be wondering how to get them to find YOU, and ask YOU about your business. I caught this vision 15 years ago and saw the power of the internet as a tool to attract hungry prospects to me. It worked so well that I’ve enrolled over 1700 people in that time. Others started asking me how I did it so I developed Social Media Mastery BackStage Pass coaching and it is now open! Learn how to get your Network Marketing business online and develop a presence so that you can be found by some of those 3 million people!  Visit SocialMediaBackstagePass.comfor details.

Today’s question is….

Asked by Ricky by Email, and he asks - Why do people quit Network Marketing so quickly?

ANSWER - well, that’s the million dollar question of the day, really?

A few reasons -

They don’t know what to do, or aren’t trained properly.

They are afraid of sounding, looking, feeling foolish.

They can’t get past their own selves and their preconceived ideas of what other people think or will say.

They think they are buying a lottery ticket!

And, sometimes, they find it easier to sign up than tell you no. This has really happened to me and others.

So, first, They don’t know what to do, or aren’t trained properly.

What you can do as a sponsor is make sure you have a system for getting a new person started. Make sure they know how to make their list, some good success language to call those people, and have and understand the third party tools to present the business.

Help them set up their calendar and make sure they understand the income producing activities that will create income for them.

Check in regularly for the first few weeks and then gradually leave that up to them.

Here is what Osita from Nigeria had to say about education

Pipe in Nigeria

Second reason - they are afraid of sounding, looking, feeling foolish. Again, with good training and even role playing what they are going to say to people, you can move them past this.

Make sure they know how to contact and invite and how to overcome the basic objections. REALLY train them that it is okay to say - I don’t know the answer to that question because I have never been asked it before. But, I know where to find the answer. Let’s call my team sponsor and business coach and get that answered for you right now.

This way, they feel empowered, the question gets answered and you model for the prospect that there is plenty of help, support and answers available.

Third, they can’t get past their own selves and their preconceived ideas of what other people think or will say.

Here is the thing. People don’t think about you all that much! I recently interviewed Mark Yarnell and he summed it up best -

Mark Yarnell:  You’re trading impression management for the right to provide your family with a lifestyle they deserve.  What I mean by that’s really simple to explain.

I talk to people all the time whose lives don’t work.  They’re putting in 60 hour weeks at a job they hate with a boss or a board of directors that they think are stupid.  They’re stressed out.  Their kids are on drugs.  They haven’t been on a meaningful vacation in ten years.  They haven’t had sex with their wife for five.  And so they’re sitting there, their life doesn’t work.

And I come into their life and I start talking to them about how they can turn that around and get off the 40 year plan, which I’ll be apt to explain to you if you want to know, but I say, “I can get you off the 40 year plan and put you on a four year plan.  Your life’s not working.  I can show you how to do it.”  “Well, what is it?”

And then I tell them a little bit about it and it’s amazing the number of people whose lives are horrible, by their own admission, their own description, who will not do what I’m doing because they want to be able to manage the impressions that other people have of them in the community.  Heck with their family. Heck with the vacations.  Heck with the fun, the joy, the quality of life that we can all have.  No, no, no, no, no.  They’d rather stay in a salaried position they hate as long as all their friends think they’re a big professional business person or doctor or dentist or whatever.

So the big sacrifice people have got to be willing to make is they’ve gotta stop playing childish, teenager, arrested development games of personality and impression management and start focusing on what will provide their family the best standard of living.  Because one thing I’ve learned, the money you make the more stature you’ve got in the community.  But a lot of people don’t want to do our industry just because they’re so afraid what people think of ‘em.  Oh my god, this is one of those pyramid deals.  Duh, yeah it’s a pyramid. Everything’s a pyramid.  Flip over a dollar bill, there’s a pyramid on the back of it.  Every structure is shaped like a pyramid.

You don’t mean Ponzi scheme do you?  Those are illegal.  Most people in a professional position, now I don’t care what it is, are unwilling to sacrifice pretense for productivity.  And so they stay in a meaningless dead-end life because they’re so afraid what other, they want to manage everybody’s impression of them.

Well I got news for those people.  When people put their head down on their pillow at night, they’re only thinking of numero uno and it ain’t you.  You may be the subject at a church function or a cocktail party ‘cause they don’t have anything better to talk about.  “Did you hear about Yarnell?  He’s in one of those pyramids.”  But the truth is, they don’t really care about you.  They get to choose to make any impression, form any impression they want about you.  So, since you can’t really manage people’s impressions anyway, it seems like kind of a stupid way to go about life, especially if your life stinks.

So my goal is to find people who finally had enough impressing people with all their fancy debt and their Beamers and their Mercedes and their hot tubs and their airplanes.  Their lives don’t work.  They haven’t been to a kid’s recital or soccer game in ever, their spouse is about ready to leave ‘em.  Their life stinks and I’m looking for those people who say, “Okay.  I played by all the rules and everybody’s impressed that I am a dentist or I’m president of the bank or I’m a doctor or I run this little corporation, but I’m tired of that.  I don’t care what people think of me.  I’m gonna rise to my full potential and I’m gonna explore every option out there.”

Those are the people I’m looking for who will sacrifice their absurd obsession on impressing others for the money and time freedom that their family deserves.  That make sense?

Fourth, they think they are buying a lottery ticket! Some people just don’t see the “work” in network marketing. There isn’t much you can do about this. Make sure you get them trained properly and are there to support them. Beyond that, it is up to them!

And, sometimes, they find it easier to sign up than tell you no. This has really happened to me and others. Again, what can you do here? Go find someone who has the hunger, desire and willingness to make it happen.

So, there you have some reasons why people quit so quickly.

Just make sure you aren’t one of them!

Good luck out there!

It seems to be working for everyone else, but not me, so what am I doing wrong?

ANSWER - I caught up with my good friend, Jules Price at the ANMP event and asked to share her thoughts on this questions, based on her success and experiences in the profession of Network Marketing.

Reframe the questions you ask yourself. Instead of asking - what’s wrong with me; what am I doing wrong; why isn’t it working for me - change that to -

What should I be doing? What can I be doing differently? What are others who are having success doing that I can model and emulate?

What does their daily Network Marketing business plan look like that has allowed them to achieve the success they are having?

Ask yourself - Am I doing the right actions?

Activity Level

Mindset

Ability to Overcome Obstacles

Activity Level - Focus on the income producing activities and tracking. Am I spending more time thinking about my business or in learning mode, vs learning by doing.

Activity is easy to do and easy not to do.  The two main income producing activities are introducing the business and following up!

Sharpen your skills regularly.

Mindset is what stops most people.  They limit their beliefs in their own abilities; their company; the profession of Network Marketing. If your mindset is negative, you are much less likely to do the activities that will bring you income.

Don’t forget you have the ability to grow your business every day. Keep your mindset positive by reading, listening, serious personal development on yourself. Can you picture it? Can you see it? Or secretly, do you doubt that any of this is in your future?

In network marketing, we can hear two now and then believe that network marketing is not for us.

Mindset will help get your where you want to go!

Overcoming Obstacles - don’t let your dreams be smaller than the obstacle that stands in front of you. See past any obstacle in front of you.

Keep your GPS on course. Nobody has a smooth path; we all have challenges and obstacles that threaten to derail us. Those who choose to not allow it to stop them see the success they want.

Have the hunger, desire and vision to overcome those obstacles and keep moving forward.

Disappointments happen. Great people don’t join us; or they quit and go to another company. It’s all how you rationalize and frame it that makes the difference.

No one has the power to stop you unless you allow them to.

Today’s question is….

How do I overcome the  objection when my prospect says -

I’m not good at sales?

ANSWER

Objections - I love them....now. I didn't in the beginning!

The key to success in dealing with objections in your network marketing business is good language and posture. The key to objections is NOT to let it rattle your cage, but rather keep your posture and put it back to them. Nicely but firmly. Before you spend a lot of time here, make sure you have a viable prospect not just someone hassling you!

Many network marketing objections are JUST to pull your strings and if you get defensive, you’ve lost them anyway. And, you’ll always be defending. If you NEVER try to sell on an objection, you’ll be amazed how many you will sponsor.

Instead of being quick to fire back with an answer, think about the words you use and how to say them in a way that makes them think about their own objection, and about how you answer it. Use a take away in every situation. This keeps you abundant and confident. And, if will quickly show what is a question that can be solved and what is their way of saying NO without saying NO.

This objection most often results because you have gone into network marketing sales mode, and let your mouth become the tool, instead of using good success language to contact and invite and then using the tools. A good question to ask back is - what was it I said or did that made you think you would be selling?

And, then, listen.

And, you always want to give them an out, to make it easy on you both -

Let me ask you a question. Do you REALLY think this is about sales or are you just saying that because you are afraid to tell me no? Because it’s okay to tell me no. It’s not a big deal to me. I wanted to offer you something that I is changing my life. And, it may not be right for you and that’s cool! So, which is it?

Another way to address this is - Terrific. I am not looking for sales people. I'm not a sales person either. I'm in the business of sharing with others about our amazing product and the possibility of becoming a turn key entrepreneur with a global business. We are looking for motivated, self driven people, who when they see something, they can't wait to share it. We are looking for people who enjoy helping others. I can see you have your doubts and I want to reassure you that if I didn't think you would be great for this and could be successful, we wouldn't be talking.

Some things for you to think about -

How do you know if you are selling? If you are pitching the business before you know a LOT of why’s, you are selling. You are a problem solver. Even with leads. Remember to ask Why, Why, WHY, at every turn!

And, finally remember that not everyone is going to be right for your network marketing business. That’s okay, Know how to say no first! It will relieve your prospect and empower you. That’s a win-win.

And, you can always come back to them as your success grows and they see it on you and in what you do. You would be surprised how that can change someone!

RECAP - Always first make sure you have a viable network marketing prospect and the objection  is not just their nice of a polite way to say no!

Today’s question is How do I approach professionals about my Network Marketing business? People who are more successful than me?

To answer today’s question, I interviewed My good friend, Network Marketing sponsor and author of Beach Money, Jordan Adler.

Jordan and I met at the gym years ago, in Tempe, Arizona where we both worked for America West Airlines and were part of the 5am Gym Crowd, getting in our workout before going off to the corporate gig.

Jordan shares the details on how to always be meeting new people.

And, some great ideas for going back to those who you’ve talked to before.

He also shares how his vision expanded by attending events such as the Association of Network Marketing Professionals event, which is where I interviewed him for this question.

Mark Yarnell shared something once on how to approach people when you’ve been involved in another porgam and it goes something like this -

Hey Joe, I know you know I’ve been involved in other companies before and have not had such great success. What I am is thoroughly committed to finding the right business fit for me, and being an entrepreneur. So, I’ve done a lot of research, to say the least. I ,know you’ve watched me in this journey and I realize you may not be interested and that’s okay. I just wanted to let you know and would love your opinion.

RECAP - bottom line, meet people regularly, add to your list and never quit. Don’t be afraid to approach the subject head on!

We are honored to have these amazing leaders here to share some insights as to how events have helped them professionally as they grow their teams, and personally, as well.

Network Marketing Events are the backbone of our profession and while we know the business is built in homes, small meetings, on personal and Skype calls all across the globe, we also know that belief is built and lives are changed at events.

Events provide Social Proof.

So, I have asked each of our guest to share a little of the following with you:

Their length of time in the Network Marketing profession.

When they attended their first event and what got them there.

What they experienced at that first event.

How they promote events among their team.

What all they have learned and experienced in the years that have followed.

And, you’ll notice attendance at different types of events.

ACTION Items:

Schedule 3 events this year on your calendar and make sure one is generic. Maybe it’s the Mastermind Event in November; Eric Worre’s Recruiting Mastery in December, or the MLM Cruise. Details in the show notes. And, of course, your company convention.

Then, every week up to the event, promote this to your team and encourage them to get there. LEADERS attend events.

Today’s question is….

How do I approach professionals about my Network Marketing business? People who are more successful than me?

ANSWER To answer today’s question, I interviewed two professionals who are proud, successful network marketers today and have escaped that corporate Rat Race. As Lisa Grossmann shared - even if you are winning at the Rat Race, you are still a RAT!

First, I have Pamela Barnum, a former attorney from Canada who is now retired, along with her husband, a former Police officer and they build their business full time, and enjoy their family.

So, an attorney, stressed out and rushing her child to daycare each day, was looking for more, even though she didn’t realize it.

And, Pamela was introduced through the product, first!

Share your products and share your opportunity. You just never know.

Then, we hear from Dr. Marie Benoit, with a PhD in Business Communications, who was never once contacted about Network Marketing, but rather she found it when looking for a solution.

She had used Mary Kay cosmetics for 30 years and so she was aware of Network Marketing but had never considered it for herself and had never been asked.

When she returned to teaching and counseling people in 2008 on their finances, she realized she needed a vehicle to present to people that would help solve their situation.

She found Dr Charles King and Tim Sales Brilliant Compensation video and was intrigued that a college professor, like she, was teaching and promoting this.

Listen to how she would approach people and how she handles

RECAP - bottom line, never prejudge. You just don’t know what lies in the heart of another!

Today’s question is….

How do I close my prospects? What if they have objections like I don’t have the money?

ANSWER

To answer today’s question, I have Matt Morris, who has built a Network Marketing team of over 250,000 across the globe, is an 8 time bestselling author on Amazon and a former homeless man and marine.

His story is inspiring and I believe what you learn here will help you tremendously.

Your Network Marketing prospect’s main objections is a fear that he or she can’t do it.

The fact that they say they don’t have the money is often a nice way of saying - NO!

So, give them that out.

Say - Let me ask you a question - Is it really that you don’t have the money or is that just your way of saying no? Because, it’s okay to tell me no. You won’t hurt my feelings. It doesn’t matter to me either way. So, which is it?

Don’t forget to ask people to join you! It’s the number one reason why people don’t join. so don’t forget to say - you’re ready to get started, right?

You’re in right?

Let’s get you started okay?

I need to ask you a question, to see if you qualify -

Do you think you could get someone in front of this video or presentation and push play?

Do you wanna do this? Are you excited?

And, always follow up!

RECAP - ASK to join and expect them to say yes!

Today’s question is….

About objections to the cost of the product.

How do you respond when a prospect says they can get your product for a lot less at Whole Foods or a food coop?

ANSWER

First, it’s important to remember not everyone is our target audience, or a potential customer. We are not looking for the WalMart shopper, no offense intended for anyone.

The first thing you always want to do is make sure you have a VIABLE prospect, someone who is interested in what you sell. And, who is wiling and educated to make an apples to apples comparison.

Most often, your prospect does not REALLY know if it’s an equivalent product. They are just assuming.

Now, in this case. I would say Whole Foods is not a WalMart type scenario. and is actually interesting because my experience with Whole Foods is that they are often a lot MORE expensive than other stores.

For me personally, I have to be honest and say I struggled with this when I was involved in a nutritional company because I am not a doctor, a pharmacist, or a scientist and so I can not honestly say that something costs more because it’s better. I can repeat that if that is what I have been told, but I can’t look you squarely in the eyes and know wholeheartedly that it is true.

Also, I always want to caution on ever bringing up price. And, I am not suggesting you did, Martha, but want to be sure everyone understands that.

If you lead with price, or mention price, you will forever be justifying and selling on price.

What makes a Lexus better than a Hyundai? Both will get you from point A to point B, right? There will be a difference in the ride, and experience.

IF you have a strong product testimonial that you can share, and perhaps share a comparison of a similar product, and do so in a way that is non salesy or hypey, then chances are you stand a good chance of at least getting your prospect to listen and evaluate.

And, for some, you won’t ever overcome this objection, so just stop trying. Know when to SAY NO FIRST!

Again, not everyone is right for you product or opportunity. there are plenty out there who are - spend your time finding those people and let the others alone!

Great question, thanks for asking!

For some, those interested in the opportunity, most will not let price be any kind of issue. They see the value and the opportunity.

Today’s question is….

How do I stay consistent in my business?

ANSWER

When your why is big enough, and you are truly committed. consistency is no longer an issue. That’s the short answer, and really, sums it all up.

No one ever likes t hear that. They like to talk about how busy they are, and how this came up, and that happened, and their life is somehow different than everyone else’s. And, it’s not.

Busy people are almost always the ones who make things happen.

We all have 24 hours in the day and we all prioritize what is important to us, even subconsciously. Look where you spend your time and there you will find your top priorities.

I recently received this email from a friend and follower.

"I have always fizzled when trying to start up my
business activity. Any tips, encouragement is much
appreciated Jackie."

I actually get this question a LOT, or something like
it.

Here is what I answered back, without taking a
lot of time to think about it, because there's not
much I can SAY or DO for another.....

They have to be ready. I had to be ready when it
was my time, so I said -

'The only tips/encouragement I can give would be -

"Well, how's that fizzling working for ya?"

At some point, YOU have to make the choice to
change your commitment.

Right now, clearly, your commitment is not strong to
build a business.

Your WISH/HOPE/DESIRE may be strong, but
those are different than commitment.

You'll know when you are truly committed. You'll
be back up for an hour at 2am, working on something
that was keeping you awake, like I was today.

And, you'll still feel rested in the morning. Ideas will burn
in your mind of what to do to grow and go.

That's when you'll know you are ready!"

It really is all about commitment!

In my experience, consistency is a must as you build and grow your Network Marketing business.

Here's why:

1. Consistency provides something to track and measure.

Until you have tried something new for a period of time and in a consistent manner, you can't decide if it works or not.  How do you measure your own effectiveness if what you are measuring isn't performed consistently?

Set a course of action for 90 days to 6 months and see what happens WITH consistency.

2. Consistency creates accountability.

I do a weekly accountability call with my team, giving them a place to show up and, well, report and be accountable. It’s like the gym, it works better when you report in to someone. Most people never show up, some show and never report; and others show up faithfully and share the good and the bad. Although, there is no bad as long as one is in action.

3. Consistency brands you and your reputation.

Business growth requires a track record of success. You can't establish a track record if you are constantly shifting gears or trying new things. Pick a System, if you will and stick with it. If you are following a system others have used for success and you just aren’t seeing it, it’s YOU, not the system.

I want to Share story of Peter, who I coached on live Call. He said -

I Find it hard to convey confidence that new distributors I sign can make money with Network Marketing.  Been working it pretty hard (4 years) and still my monthly check is only $150.  Not happy with that and certainly not proud of it.  Makes it difficult for me to call warm market.

My response back was to ask him about his consistency. I asked him to get out his calendar and tell me his business activities for the last day, week, month and year. WAs he contacting 2 people a day consistently, and following up?

OF course, the answer was no and the reality of it is that he was THINKING about his business, but not working it and there is a huge difference.

Don’t confuse decision with desire. They are not the same.

What is your plan to stay consistent in your business?

Finally I want to close with a powerful message I have had delivered 3 times, so I am taking notice. Take a look at your calendar and time spent this last year. where are the time suckers? Where do you need to learn to say NO.

IF you are serious, before you put one more thing on your calendar or say yes to volunteering, or heading up this committee, and so on, ask yourself - will this lead me to my goal or take me further away? Be honest and then decide, with no whining.

Today’s question is….

The question today  is from John Goss, who wonders how to get out of struggling and get it online - where does he start, with limited funds?

ANSWER

Thanks for the feedback John. and GREAT question and one I had back in October, 1999 when I caught the vision of what the internet could provide for my business.

I remember struggling to get my business online, too, so you are on the right track! Yes, it can be very painful.

And, as confusing as it was then, it is more confusing now because there are so many people selling stuff, promising to be the end all, be all, right?

While I did invest in my education, because you can’t really learn it for free, just like going to med school, you can go overboard if you aren’t careful.

I took it step by step, bought one thing, studied, learned and took action, before moving on to the next. That way I did not have huge credit card debt and nothing to show for it.

I once met a guy at a seminar who had spent $10,000 learning the online process and he didn’t even have a blog up yet! Yikes.

Here are the primary components to an online marketing system -

First, know what you are selling - product, opportunity, yourself, or all three, in a compelling order.

Then, you need -

A blog or website that is your hub of the universe

A way to capture leads and build your list of hungry prospects

Marketing funnels - this is where Social Media comes in - Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram and more

Content - this is what you market with, and interest people with, and bring them back to your site to engage in business.

  •  And MORE!!!

The content will be delivered to you on an ongoing basis, designed to  provide maximum "learning value" to you. The goal is to take you down a proven path, and not throw you into a freeway "cloverleaf" with way too many directions and options to choose from and no logical sense of how to put it together.

I'll be taking you through the exact process I used back in 1999 to launch a successful business that has sustained throughout all of the myriad of changes online!

Only, better, because I KNOW the mistakes I made and I'll be sharing those so you can avoid the pitfalls!

It's still the same principles I operate with today, and they flat out WORK.

No bright shiny object syndrome! Don’t keep buying “things” until you take the core steps that work.

As far as keywords and your question there -

Do you know that in nearly 15 years of marketing online, I have NEVER focused on SEO or Google rankings. If it happened, great, but I was a mom, with 2 children, 7 and 5 and a husband gone half the week, so I had no time or brain power to learn and absorb SEO.

I focused on Social Media marketing, before it was even called that, with discussion groups and forums! I got out there and marketed my stuff. Over time, SEO rankings came, but I was earning a significant income by then based on what I did for myself.

You’ll learn that in SocialMediaBaskstagePass.com

As a bonus, I have created an entire training section on Network Marketing Mastery, too, which includes -

  • Getting started
  • First 30 Days
  • Understanding the Timeline of Success
  • How to Contact
  • How to Follow Up
  • Objections - this is HUGE
  • Launching a new team partner
  • The First Week With a New Team Partner
  • Setting up your success calendar
  • Daily, Weekly and Monthly Action Plans
  • Opening Contact scripts with handouts
  • Advanced Success Language
  • Building Depth
  • Leadership
  • The 2-5 Year Plan
  • Go Pro
  • Building to Events
  • Mindset Mastery
  • And, MORE!

These are important skill sets to have whether you are using the internet or offline methods. You must know how to effectively build your business beyond just sponsoring.

Whatever you decide in terms of getting the training you need, here is where you want to focus -

Start with -

A blog or website that is your hub of the universe

Then, add  a way to capture leads and build your list of hungry prospects

Next, add Marketing funnels - this is where Social Media comes in - Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram and more.

Finally, you want to spend time each week creating content - this is what you market with, and interest people with, and bring them back to your site to engage in business.

Good luck!

Today’s question is….

How do I GET PEOPLE on Facebook?

ANSWER

Good question because everyone wants to know how to use that phenomenal tool called the internet to find people who are already looking for a business? Right?

And they are out there, to the tune of over 3 million people a day who go to google and start searching. That doesn’t even include Facebook!

Here is the thing to remember about Facebook and Google and how they are different.

Google is a search engine; a place people go specifically with the intent of finding something, something they are looking for.

They sit down, they type in a word, or most often, a keyword phrase such as - how do I start a business from home.

Facebook is a social site where people go to hangout, to party, to reconnect, to catch up, to kill time, and so on.

How many people a day do you think go to Facebook and type in - how do I start a business from home?

Probably very few to none!

Does that mean people on Facebook aren’t looking? Well, many of them ARE, so the key is to become attractive in their eyes. and create enough curiosity to have them click to know more.

So, it starts with creating an attractive, power profile. This is your prime real estate on Faceook. Your headshot, profile picture, your cover photo, your ABOUT  section, work and education, basic info and contact info. Keep in mind that the groups you belong to, movies you’ve watched, places you’ve been and so on are also visible.

Use that space to make yourself compelling.

Then, use your status updates and how you engage with others the same way.

Practice FORM on Facebook - Family, Occupation, Recreation and Money - what do you see other’s sharing about their lives, jobs, and where they might want to make changes? When you see something, reach out and engage, but do so over time. Don’t spam with a link, engage with a question.

“Hi Susan. I recently saw your status update about being downsized from your job and wanted to reach out. I work with several people who went through the same thing, and decided to head down the entrepreneurial path instead of looking for a job, and it has worked out well for them. They can work from home, or anywhere and no more glass ceilings. I don’t know if it would be right for you, but you should probably decide that for yourself. Would that be something you might be interested in hearing more about?

Do the same for cities and areas where you want to expand your business or where your company might be having an event, and reach out.

But, ask engaging questions and NEVER just spam them with a link or information until they specifically say yes to learning more. Then, and ONLY then do you play your cards.

More information on this can be found at JackieUlmer.com/fbforbiz

Don’t forget about groups and pages, which are a great way to expand yourself out of your friend’s list and gain exposure from a whole new audience.

Also, eliminate the phrase - get people - from your vocabulary and even your thoughts. We aren’t out to “get anyone” but rather to create a win win with those we encounter.

Whatever you do, don’t post your opportunity link, or calls on your profile, hoping that you’ll catch a few people interested. You might, but the chances that you will repel others is much greater.

Remember that you are coaching people every step of the way on how they will build a business. And, some who say no now will be interested later. But if you have turned them off NOW, and they have blocked you from their newsfeed, you’ll never have the chance to capture them when their life situation changes and they become interested.

If they see you doing something that doesn’t appeal to them, they may think that will be required of them to be successful. And, for now, they won’t be interested.

Just like you wouldn’t walk into a party with a megaphone shouting out to everyone about your business, don’t do it on social media. It brings down the integrity of not only you, your company, but also out entire profession.

Facebook is a fantastic sponsoring pool, when done right!

Good luck out there

QA005 How Do I Stop Worrying About What Other People Think

Today’s question is….

How do I get over being worried about what other people think about Network Marketing and my decision to join a company?

ANSWER

Boy, can I relate to THIS question. I struggled immensely with this. And, most of it was made up stuff in my own brain and mis-information.

Sometimes, when you start a Network Marketing business, you must be willing to accept a temporary loss of Social Status with some people. Oh well!

Remember this - other people’s opinions don’t pay the bills! More on this later.

I have listened to hundreds of hours of interviews by entrepreneurs, outside of network marketing and do you know most of them have gone through the exact same thing?

When they wanted to buck the corporate system and take the entrepreneurial path, they got huge resistance from parents, family members, friends and those who wanted to “protect them” from themselves.

Think of Robert Kyosaki, Rich Dad, Poor Dad. He’s “poor dad” or biological father told him to go to school, work hard, get a good education and get a good job with benefits. His rich dad, the father of a good friend was an entrepreneur and encouraged him to chart his own course.

He choose to be an entrepreneur and was met with huge resistance.

Derek Halpern, of Social Triggers shares the story of charting his own course, and starting an entertainment blog, which was not perceived as “worthy” by his parents, and others. He made $25,000 his first month and $20,000 the second month and his mom asked -

When are you going to get a real job? And, he listened and took a corporate job paying $50,000 a year. So he traded what he had made in essentially 2 months for a cubicle and the same pay for 12 months!

Yikes! Needless to say, he didn’t stick with that.

Adam Braun, a hugely successful, but more obscure entrepreneur shares the story of grabbing a steak off the plate of a junior partner in a consulting group he had just joined, when she didn’t eat it and the waiter was taking it away. It was a large corporate dinner.

Needless to say, the entire dinner group stopped and listened when she asked - DID you just take my steak?

What he learned from that lesson is - go for what you want, and show others that you are your own person, confident and self assured.

If you don’t have enemies, you haven’t stood for something.

Asking for permission is asking for denial.

Who are you asking for permission from? Often, when people ask if it’s MLM, they are just waiting for your reaction. To see how you really feel about it!

We worry about being judged by other people, but here is the deal. Even if someone passes judgement on you and your decision, it doesn’t last very long. People don’t about it every time they see you, unless you give them a reason to.

We also tend to make things up about why people don’t like Network Marketing or why they tell us no. We assume they won’t be interested and so on.

My negative blueprint stems from My first experience was as a 12-13 year old, when my Uncle joined Amway and talked to my family about it. I was not around for the conversation but what I remember is my mom, his sister and their other sister, not having a lot of positive to say about it.

What I made up in my mind is that it is bad. Don't know why, but join a Network Marketing company and your family will talk about you.

Now, interestingly, I contacted my mom a few weeks back to ask about that whole experience and why they were so negative about it. Here was her response.

"It's not that I was negative about Amway or that business model, I just know that I am afraid of sales, know that I would never be good at it and I don't like people pushing their products on me, so I could never do that."

Hmmm. That gave some perspective. First, wow, what we can make up as a kid with only pieces of the story.

Second, her perception is that she was having products pushed on her, or would have to do the same. So, either my uncle was too salesy or my mom just made up her own scenario because she wasn't interested and couldn't just say - no thanks, good luck.

Now, I do know it to be true about my mom that our business model is not a fit for her. She's not particularly coachable so even working her through it all would probably not happen.

Good lesson there - know when to let go!

Other People’s Opinions don’t pay your bills. Do you seek other people’s opinions about everything, or other things in your life?

First, not everyone is going to tell you yes, and you may hear a few no's before you get to some yeses. If you know this going in, and are prepared for it, then you will be expecting to hear no from some who you are hoping will join you.

Can you prepare for that now? Can you handle it if and when they say no?

Here is one thing I assure you – if you will stick with your network marketing business; develop your business skills and keep following up with those who you have talked to previously, many of those will come back and say YES at a later time. That is my story. I said no WAY before I said yes. Nothing had changed in the business, products, compensation plan, etc, when I decided to say yes. What had changed was ME. I was now ready.

Remember, other people can only affect you if YOU allow them to. Their opinion does not reflect on you, your company and products, or your decision, It's simply a reflection of them, and where they are in their life right now. And, if someone happens to be mean or nasty about it, then that speaks a bit to character and their own insecurities, in my opinion.

Here is something to say when someone begins to offer their opinion about what you are doing without having seen the business overview.

"You can't really have an opinion about what I am doing if you haven't even seen what it is. If you would like to look it over and then give me an educated opinion, I would love to have that conversation."

What can someone say back to that, really?

Don’t assume everyone is negative on MLM.

Leslie Zann, Donnie Walker and many other top professionals had no negative blueprint, and were fascinated with the business model. Robert Kiyosaki is a huge fan and endorses it.

Me, Margie Aliprandi, Mark Yarnell and others; we had some preconceived ideas about it. We had to overcome this in order to move forward.

So, you must decide for yourself what matters most - as Mark Yarnell said to me -

I think the real sacrifice is you’re willing to trade impression management, which is stupid anyway and impossible to generate.  You’re trading impression management for the right to provide your family with a lifestyle they deserve. It’s amazing the number of people whose lives are horrible, by their own admission, their own description, who will not do what I’m doing because they want to be able to manage the impressions that other people have of them in the community. One thing I’ve learned, the money you make the more stature you’ve got in the community.  But a lot of people don’t want to do our industry just because they’re so afraid what people think of ‘em.

So, enough said there!

Good luck!

From running a successful family business, to finding network marketing, to troubles with the federal govt,  to court, to a shocking sentence, to prison, to success again, now a speaker and trainer on a worldwide stage.

You think you have challenges in your business?

When I first met Lisa, it was March, 2013 at the Association of Network Marketing Professionals event in Dallas, where we both spoke on the Social Media Panel. Somehow, I had missed her name in the MLM profession until about a year earlier.

Listening to an interview she did with Eric Worre, I became intrigued to meet and get to know this strong, yet gentle, ambitious, yet kind, seasoned and sweet person.

Today, the opportunity to interview her and draw out a little of her story brings me huge joy and a sense of satisfaction!

In 1988, she was introduced to Network Marketing. She had the good fortune to become part of a company that in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s was a starting point for where some of the greatest network marketing professionals of today began their careers. As she worked her way up through the compensation program in that first company, she was working hand in hand with the best of the best.

QA003 Should I Lead With Product or Opportunity

Hey, it’s Jackie Ulmer and welcome this Q and A edition of the Street Smart Wealth, Profit in Your PJs Podcast, where I answer your burning questions and get you on your way to the Network Marketing Hall of Fame.

Today’s question is….

Do I lead with the product or opportunity, especially building online, with a blog.

India wants to know!

ANSWER

Begin with the end in mind. What is your “Most wanted response?”

Lead with the product, you get customers FIRST.

Lead with Opportunity - you attract those looking for a business.

First let’s cover that question offline and then move online.

Offline, it’s best to lead with common sense and “where you are with the prospect.”

When making your list, you take each person individually and decide how you want to lead, and again, what is your most wanted response?

Let’s take weight loss. A high demand market, for sure, but also touchy, depending on how you are approaching it.

“Hey, would you be interested in losing 15 pounds in 10 days?” You will get some interest, and you might also offend some people. Especially women. We are sensitive to that, typically!

Now, consider this though - what if you set up a booth at a bridal show - And led with the product - Be your ideal weight in time for your wedding.

You might get the bride, her attendants, mothers and more involved and interested in that one. And, then what if you took it a step further and mentioned that she might want to become a distributor and market these great products to her bridal party and other friends, and make enough to pay cash for a honeymoon?

I can’t tell you how many people I have met in network marketing and party plan who joined a company to make enough for the honeymoon. I’ve seen them at shows and networking events I have attended. They are HIGHLY motivated because they have a BIG why.

You could wear a t-shirt to the gym or anywhere and see what happens. Web decals on cars and so on.

Now, let’s talk online -

We know that over 3 million a day go online looking for a business. Can they find you?

How many go online looking for your product?I don’t know, but in certain product lines - weight loss - it is in HIGH demand and also highly competitive.

But, what if you took the same approach that I mentioned offline? What of you targeted groups, pages and areas in social media for brides? What if you created Youtube videos, and took the same approach, leading with the product and back ending with “make money for your honeymoon.”

You NEVER run out of prospects because people get engaged and married every day. LOTS of them, all around the globe!

The same is true for leading with the business, you just have to research the target areas online. Think of devout followers of Robert Kyosaki, Rich Dad, Poor Dad - they are prime for network marketing because he nonchalantly endorses it with many other methods.

Real estate investors can be the same.

You mentioned the blog, and that’s a great place to write articles and blog posts that target keywords and then take those posts and market them on Social Media. Don’t wait for google to find you - get out there and spread the word.

And, also determine what you are best suited to communicate on, both in status updates and out on social media as well as blog posts and what you write.

That’s an ongoing question - what to lead with. Everyone has an opinion and there is not a right or wrong. I know top income earners from both sides. It’s really more about you, your passion and your tenacity!

Good luck.

QA002 How Do I Find Time For My Business

Today’s question is….

I really want to be successful in my business, but how do I find the time? I’m so busy.

ANSWER

Well, I have to say, I love this question and I hear it A LOT!

Here is the thing - EVERYONE is busy. Seriously - you are not unique there. Sorry to say!

You will never FIND the time, you must make the time! PERIOD.

We all have the same 24 hours in the day, and we all choose what our priorities are. We do that, even if we aren’t thinking about it. Just look where you spend your time - THAT’s where your priorities are. Don’t like it? Change it!

Here are some ways to make your time count.

First decide your commitment - REALLY decide. Stop fooling yourself - DECIDE, COMMIT, PRIORITIZE.

CALENDAR everything - work, play, church, housework, and business time.

If it’s not on the calendar, it doesn’t get done.

Sit down with your family, share your WHY and what you are working to accomplish. Avoid hype and money claims.  Ask what they would like to do/have when you reach certain successes.

Small kids - Use language appropriate for their age range. Ask for their help and support.

Set up a business plan and schedule it on the calendar as best you can and stick to it. Then, you can show it as a reference point to the family and they know when you are working and when you are available.

Create a family calendar,

Involve the children in your business wherever possible.  Whether it's lickin' and stickin' stamps and envelopes, putting up fliers, passing out business cards to parents of playmates, or whatever else you can afterwards.  Sometimes my kids would beg to help! Get them involved in age appropriate tasks

I have an entire podcast show dedicated to working the business as a mom - JU.com/011

Balance is a myth. You will be in balance in some areas and out of balance in others and this is an ongoing thing.

Set reasonable goals for yourself and DON'T compare yourself to others. This is dangerous. No two people have the same life situation.

Be the best that you can be and commit to those income producing activities first, and avoid email except for specific times during the day.

Don’t fall victim to all or nothing. You don’t need big blocks of 1-2 hours or more at a time to work your business.

Schedule chunks of time - 15 min morning, noon lunch hour in car, stop at starbucks on the way home for an extra 30 minutes.

Get VERY organized with meal planning - engage family for help, use your crock pot.

Look at extra curricular activities and decide what you are willing to give up for the short term, to have it all for the long term!

Use technology - Today, with the internet and all of the tools out there, keeping in touch: delivering timely information to your prospects; training to your team and even putting yourself out there so that people who are ready and looking for a business NOW can find you through the search engines. Do NOT let technology scare you. I had moderate success in MLM doing it the “old fashioned” way. I created a full time income, but not “obscene money.” Today, using the internet a lot in my business, I’m a VERY HAPPY MLM WAHM working about 30 hours a week. I’m able to work fewer hours than the “typical networker” because I let technology be my sales force and “PR People!”

Use smartphone apps to post to social media sites during blank times - in school pick up line, line at grocery store, waiting in a doctors office, at gymnastics practice or wherever you find yourself with stuck time and nothing productive to do with it.

At the same time, social media and technology can be a time sucker if you let it - FaceBook, Twitter, LinkedIn, EMAIL - email is just someone else’s agenda for you.

YOU control the times.

Do all income producing activities as soon as you can, earliest in the day. Then, you have the important stuff covered.

Remember, we all have priorities. They are already evident by where we spend or give away our time, YOU control your calendar and your destiny. You really do.

When the why is strong enough, the rest shows up.

Good luck!

QA001 My Spouse Doesn't Support Me

Hey, it’s Jackie Ulmer and welcome to the FIRST episode of this NEW edition of the Street Smart Wealth, Profit in Your PJs Podcast, where we answer your burning questions and get you on your way to the Network Marketing Hall of Fame.

This is Episode QA001.

You can certainly leave me your comments over at JackieUlmer.com.com/qa001

I hope you enjoy this addition!

Today’s question is….

I’m really trying in my business, but how do I deal with an unsupportive spouse?

ANSWER

This can be a doozy, so some questions to ask yourself -

Does my spouse support me in most areas?

What other areas does he or she not support me?

In my gut, what do I feel this lack of support is based around?

Have I tried other “things” spent other “money” and not been successful? IF so, why was I not successful? Be honest. Did I really go all in, give it everything?

Have their been multiple things?

Does my spouse understand how my business works? Understand Network Marketing? Is it just a lack of education?

Have you asked to sit down and go through it with an open mind to at least understanding it?

Kyosaki and Trump - Why We Want You to be Rich, The Business of People Helping People, The Business of the 21st Century

Create a space where he/she can see beyond the hype and propaganda some reps put on MLM.

Robert Allen, John Gray, Brian Tracy, to name a few big names.

Make a decision, and I mean a REAL decision. Decide if you are all in, and then schedule a family meeting.

Sit down, and share your goals, your reasons, your heartfelt desires and let them know what you would most like from them, how they can support you, and what you would like to do, as a family and a “team” when you start making money.

No hype, no BS, just real, raw and committed. Then, listen. Answer questions and DO NOT get defensive.

Most often, the break down is in communicating effectively. He said/she said and everyone assumes. Lots of things.

Share what you intend to do, write out a business plan that’s based around your actions and activities. That’s all you can control. But, and here is the Big BUT - be ready to commit to that plan. Don’t be a talker. Talk is cheap. Be an action taker!

I do promise you this, when you can “show them the money” - things can begin to change. Not for everyone, because with some, it’s a much deeper issue. But for most, success, in the form of monetary compensation has a way of turning the biggest of skeptics into happy believers!

Good luck

SSW060 From Six Figures to Starting Over to Success Again With Donnie Walker

Donnie Walker, who brings over 23 years of experience in our profession to the show today, is an inspiration with his "never quit" attitude!

He is a self proclaimed graduate of the MLM school of hard knocks, since 1991, and has reached the top of at least 3 companies, only to start over again when his values did not aligned with those of the company. He is strong on honesty and integrity.

His quote - "I love this industry for what it can do for the person, that doesn't think they can have more in life. Network Marketing can change lives forever."

Multiple times, Donnie has built groups of ten and twenty thousand, only to find himself starting over when things didn’t line up.

So, I asked him - how did you start over? Did you go back to your list; your old downline, or what?

He started back in the time with no cell phones, fax, internet and the per minute charge to Australia was $25 a MINUTE! He incurred thousand dollar phone bills.

While nothing beats the face to face encounter, Donnie was truly an early pioneer of the internet, back in the early 90s with Compuserve, and then AOL, and met lots of people in a chat room called MLM Live.

He can still name hundreds of people he is still friends with from that room.

Donnie is a true Network Marketing Master

Social Media - the word - didn’t exist, but he was “doing it!”

Instant Messenger was built by networkers and launched Social Media today, in Donnie’s opinion.

SSW059 Creating Your Success Stories in Network Marketing

Today, we are going to cover the power in developing stories and becoming a good story teller. You’ve heard it before - Facts tell, stories sell. And, yet think how many times we are tempted to blurt out nothing but the facts and features of what we are offering. As you are building rapport with people and building on those relationships, the stories you share about your life and how they relate to your business.

You will learn how to create a solid story to share so you can handle that question - How is it working for you? Once you can handle this question, you are well on your way to what you want. You’ll learn the importance in what you say and how you say it, so you don’t come off as salesy or like a telemarketer, which can be our worst fear, right?

SSW060 Dialing for Dollars in Network Marketing With Tracy Monteforte

Are you afraid of picking up the phone to call prospects about your Network Marketing business? Have you ever wondered about working with leads?

Today's podcast features my interview with Dialing For Dollars Gal Tracy Monteforte. Tracy was a school teacher looking for a way to be home with her newborn when her sister introduced her to Network Marketing.

She has had her share of ups and downs in MLM, including having a company close down in the US and being forced to move to another company. After joining a leads company, she began to master the art of working the phones, dialing for dollars and calling leads.

This show will teach you how to make friends with your phone!

You must become a master communicator to be successful in your business and it all starts with telling stories.
