How and Why to Use Social Media 

Let’s cover some key points on how and why to use social media and what it takes, to make it REALLY work for you. 

We’ll start with the HOW to use Social Media. 

Step 1 - Create GREAT content. Doesn’t matter what the content. Image quotes; blog posts; videos; asking questions - make it great, engaging and something your audience really gets value of some kind from. Even jokes! Think of who your “One Person” is? Who is your target audience and what appeals to that person? Start there. 

My Story. WAHM, Direct Sales, Real Estate. 

Step 2 - Build Your Fan Base or Community. This takes time, intention and focus. And, it takes consistency. Make it a two way street and be engaged with others in your similar community. 

Step 3 - Become known as that person who is “everywhere.” Yes, be everywhere. Now, I know I coach on picking one, maybe two social platforms to master, and then moving to others, and there is a lot you can do on more than two to get started and begin building community. 

Instagram for instance. If you are already posting image quotes on Facebook, also post them on Instagram and spend a quick sec on some keywords you’ll use on Instagram. 

If you are doing Facebook live or other video, add it to a YouTube channel as well, with some good keywords. 

Step 4 - Help Your Stuff Get Shared - this is also called going viral, or rather it’s the first step in the process. How do you get your stuff shared? Start by sharing the content of others in your niche, who will take notice and may share yours in return. Develop a few key loyal tribe members and ask them to share, and reciprocate. 

Step 5 - Track and document what works. Pay close attention to what gets shared and what goes unnoticed and pay attention and work to repeat what works. It takes some time, and you will see a pattern. 

Okay, so let’s talk about the WHY to use Social Media. 

Honestly there is no greater tool to leverage your time, geographic reach and efforts than Social Media. 

It’s been nearly 18 years that I have been online, generating leads and income daily. 

It allowed me to toss my advertising and paid leads list; stop hanging out in coffee shops waiting to be no-showed by my prospect; stop spending hours at weekly meetings; and, it allowed me to have my business out in front of big numbers of people without even needing to be physically present. 

It doesn’t matter if the kids are home sick, or you just broke out in hives. You can take daily action in your business using social media. IT is a no excuses approach! 

So, how do you make Social Media work for you? 

 I’m glad you asked…. 

MUSIC 

First step, take an inventory of your social media presence and look at it objectively, from the eyes of a prospect. 

What works and what doesn’t? Can someone easily tell what you do? Are you over salesy? Would they possibly run? 

Layout a marketing plan for social media. What platforms, what content, what days. 

You likely won’t get it right the first time. It takes some tweaking . And, you will find your path. 

If I were starting today, here is what I would do. 

I would reach out to all of my current social media contacts, and I would go to every networking event that I could find. I would meet, provide value and connect on Social Media. I would work my butt of getting engaged and beginning to know these people. BUILD Relationships.

The Right Actions For Success 

It doesn’t matter what business you are in, ACTION is a required part of the success equation. 

Your actions will determine your level of success, day in and day out. 

Using this week’s Mantra - My Actions Create my Prosperity - begin to get clear on what those action steps will be. 

Success is built around leads and referrals, that convert to actual prospects, who we then guide down the path to educating them about us, our business, our services and what doing business together will mean. 

How do we begin the process to get those leads? 

I have a coaching client who I am working through this process right now. 

She’s fairly new with her company and has a desire to go quickly, and she works a full time job. 

So, we have laid out a business action plan of what she will do each day.  

We have written out her scripts and success language, so she knows what to say each step of the way, including how she will answer the most common questions and objections. 

And, we developed a rewards and accountability system for herself, as well as her family, so she is motivated to stay on track and accountability to those who she is building her business for. 

Because she has limited time, we looked for small pockets of time throughout her day and week and planned exact steps so that at the end of the day, she feels accomplished and knows she has given her best to her business. 

Before we worked through all of this, she was feeling stuck, and not at all in action because she was having a challenge finding blocks of time to work her business. 

So, it was an all or nothing approach. If she had a busy day, and didn’t have an hour at night to work on her business, she was defaulting to doing nothing. 

Now, she is on a system for success and knows what to do throughout her day. At this point, her true commitment is kicking in because she no longer has any question about what to do to work the business. 

The only question becomes whether she will take the action; whether she will make excuses or make progress in her business. 

A business never just builds itself. And, even with online tools, systems and attraction marketing, there are still required things that must be done. 

What are the right actions for success in your business? 

I have another client, who is in real estate. She’s been active for about 2 years, and, like many of my clients, she is a mom of busy, active children. 

Join the club! We all are busy. That’s my least favorite thing to ever hear from someone. 

I’m busy. I’ve been busy, 

We all have the same 24 hours in a day. And, where we spend our time is what our priority is. 

Sometimes that’s tough to hear, for me, too. 

So, back to my Real Estate agent client. 

We are laying out her social media plan, and working to develop her top 250 list. Those who will use, refer and promote her. 

We all have one of those. Or, we require to if we really want to be successful. 

We have put together a 52 week strategy for her, online and offline, and she is busy and in action. 

She meets 2 people per week for coffee or lunch, just to catch up and reconnect. They go into a database so she can track and keep track of this list and where she is along the way. 

This is not a connection per meetup to specifically talk about business, but as often happens, business and careers come up. 

We’ve developed success language so she is clear on what to say to get her business out there, without being or feeling like she is selling. 

She has a clear, defined follow up plan so she stays top of mind, and her social media marketing plan assists with this as well. 

So, what will it take for you to define the right actions for success in your own business? I’m glad you asked…. 

Steps to define your action plan. Write this down. 

What is required for success? 

What time do you have? 

Where are you currently struggling? 

What will it take to move beyond that? 

Now, act as if you have put the struggle behind you. Write out that action plan based on the first two questions.

Choosing Success in Your Business

I choose to welcome success into my life. That’s our Monday Mantra and our mantra for the week. Say it, write it down, post it on Post It Notes and also repeat -

I am choosing success in my business.

Let’s talk a little bit about the power, and the fallacy in mantras and then I want to share some thoughts on what it means to be choosing success in your business.

Mantras - they are talked about quite a bit, and they are powerful for a few things -

Keeping you focused on where you are headed and where you want to be, instead of staying stuck in one spot.

They are positive, they are uplifting and they can be a catalyst for shifting you to where you want to be.

The fallacy of mantras is when one just blindly recites them, expecting THAT one act to make the change.

It’s so much more than that. It’s FEELING your way to the success you want. It’s thinking about the mantra and the words you speak and feeling as if it were already true.

Remember, the mind does not differentiate between what is real and imagined, UNLESS, you are blindly reciting something that you don’t feel at all aligned with.

So, practice these mantras and do so in a way that allows you to feel what you are saying and where you want to be.

Okay, so now that we are clear on that, let’s talk about Choosing Success in Your Business.

What does that look and feel like for you?

Success - it’s an interesting word and it means different things to different people.

For most, it starts with that feeling of monetary success. Of starting something and taking the action necessary to create income; to create clients; referrals; team members; SALES.

I was recently interviewed by John Milton Fogg, also known as the Greatest Networker in the World, for a group of Russian entrepreneurs.

And, he asked me a question - what’s been the best thing for you about success in Direct Sales and your Home Business, and for me, with Social Media.

And, my answer is simple -

The money of course, was why I started. I wanted to create a better life for my children, my family and myself.

I wanted to travel and enjoy life, and not feel the struggle.

And, I achieved that. And, it’s been great.

Beyond all of that, however, it’s the knowledge that I DID IT. That I accomplished my goal. That I did more than just talk about it - I did it.

Along the way, I met amazing people and they are part of that success story. They ARE the success story.

No matter what ever happens, I OWN that story. 

What’s your story? What’s your story now, and the story you are passionate about creating?

How focused are you on achieving that success and that story?

How committed are you to achieving that success and that story?

How do you FEEL about achieving that success and that story?

How do you feel if you do NOT achieve that success and that story?

How would you feel about being that top producing Real Estate agent in your office?

Or the top recruiter and team builder in your Network Marketing company?

How would you like being the top new comer in your insurance company?

Do you know how simple it is to grow your own successful business?

It’s starts with just a decision, and then a little plan.

I am coaching a new real estate agent right now, and we are working through her fears first. We are moving her past herself and building her up to become the Go To person in her neighborhood, in her niche and on a national and worldwide basis. Imagine the referrals she can get from others outside of her area just by bonding through Social Media.

Social media is not a fad, and it is not a mystery.

IT’s a systematic process of authenticity, starting conversations, sharing value and building relationships.

It’s been my passion and made me a fortune for the last 18 years, almost. 18 in October.

Cleaning Up Your Facebook Profile

 

It’s easy to lose sight of the important things that matter on Facebook when your goal is to use it as a tool to grow your business; create brand awareness and an interest in you and potentially doing business together or referring you.

 

If you are like me, you set up your Facebook profile many years ago and may not have updated some key pieces that are important as you use it as a business calling card.

 

And, please do note that your Facebook Profile page is more valuable than your business card. IT’s one of the first places people will look to begin to research you, and learn more about you.

 

Here are some simple steps to take right now to begin cleaning up your Facebook Profile -

 

Take a good look at your profile picture. Does it represent you, your business and your brand the way you desire it to, in order to be an effective tool for you in business. IT should be clear, well lit, you and your face, and no one and nothing else.

 

Not your family, your friends, your dog, favorite pet, a product photo or a company logo.

 

Just you - it’s Facebook.

 

Next, take a look at your cover photo and I recommend looking at it on your smartphone as well as your computer, to make sure it looks correct on both.

 

What does it state about you, your business and your brand? It’s fine to change it out with holidays, special events and life’s happenings. Ideally, have one that shares an overall view of you, as a person and a business owner, and use this one most often.

 

Now, scroll down your left sidebar and pay attention to your Intro - what does it say? Is it enticing to inspire others to click to your About section? If not, spend some time sprucing it up!

 

Is the rest of the info on that left sidebar current?

 

Employment and Career Details? If possible, make sure you have it linked to YOUR business page. Click any highlighted links and make sure they are not dead ends, going to a page that doesn’t really exist.

 

I often see people with links to Home Business Owner or something random that highlights and is clickable, but takes one no where.

 

Also, make sure you are not linking to a company page that does not benefit YOU. This is especially true for my Real Estate and Direct Sales friends. Insurance agents may also want to explore this.

 

Click on your About section and this is where you are able to go in and clean anything up that requires an update.

 

Old Direct Sales companies or anything from the past that does not serve you is something you’ll want to delete.

 

People don’t have a ton of time to spend, so make your most current, relevant stuff pop and intrigue them.

 

Head on down through this page and you’ll see all kinds of stuff pop up that you may not have realized was linked in there, including Music, Movies, Books, Sports, and toward the bottom, you will find all of the Pages you have “Liked” over time. Do you still want to continue liking all of these? Now is the time to clean this up.

 

Right click and open each page in a new tab in a new window and decide of you want to stay or go. I took mine from 229 to 147 just as I was working on this show!

 

Ok, that’s enough homework for today. We’ll work on some other Social Media Strategies over time, and since Facebook is the grand daddy of them all, it’s a solid starting point!

 

 

Now, you are ready to get over to Facebook and begin cleaning up your Facebook Profile!

Trust Your Gut in Building Your Solopreneur Business

Have you ever had that absolute sense of knowing that you are on to something SOLID? And your gut is telling you that you are good to go, and to go for it?

Did you feel that way when you started to build your own business? Maybe it’s in Direct Sales, or Real Estate?

Maybe some told you that you were crazy, and to get your head out of the clouds?

Or that it would never work?

I had plenty of people tell me that when I decided to build my Network Marketing business online.

I began building a Direct Sales home business (offline) in 1994, and in 1999, I took my business to the Internet. I was an average home based business owner (a mom with two pre-school aged children, a husband gone half the month and a huge desire for more, ha!) before the Internet. I was not setting any records. I had success and did make money, but much of it was a struggle; much of it consisted of ways of doing the business that did not appeal to me.

I made my warm market list; contacted people and developed the skills I needed to talk to people about my business. I joined networking groups, the Chamber of Commerce and did all of the traditional methods you hear about. I struggled with contacting people in the beginning, and never wanted to be someone who chased my friends, family, neighbors and anyone who came within "3 feet of me!" Heard that story before?

I was just a stay-at-home mom who wanted to create something more for my family and future. I didn’t want my husband to have the stress of supporting a family of 4 on one income. I didn’t want to leaf through travel magazines and wish we could travel, too.

That was it! I was greener than green. Here are words and concepts I knew nothing about -

URL – had no idea what that term meant.

Domain name – See above.

Auto responder – that sounded WAY too techie to even think about. Even lead capture or splash page.

Search Engine, Optimize, Pay Per Click – all foreign terms.

Social Media Marketing – that term didn't even exist!!!

Here is what I did know –

The facts and figures associated with this growing phenomenon called The Internet was/is staggering. I wanted to be a part of it. I knew it was the answer to my prayers for growing a successful business. I knew this was going to be my ticket to success in MLM. I knew that it was going to take some effort, and it would be the best decision I would ever make. I knew this was how a stay-at-home mom with small children was going to make Network Marketing work!

I was sold. And, there was no turning back for me. I rolled up my sleeves and got busy.

Here’s what happened – it exceeded my wildest expectations. It created exactly what I wanted in a business from home and in Network Marketing, Information and Affiliate Marketing.

It allowed me to toss my advertising and paid leads list; stop hanging out in coffee shops waiting to be no-showed by my prospect; stop spending hours at weekly meetings; and, it allowed me to have my business out in front of big numbers of people without even needing to be physically present.

Pinch me! It was a dream come true, and quite honestly, I’m still lost in the dream! Except, it is really happening.

Today, I am hired to coach and train not only those in Direct Sales, but also Real Estate Agents, Mortgage Lenders, Solopreneurs, and many others.

Because like I knew nearly 18 years ago that my audience was going to the internet looking for answers, they know THEIR audience is there, too!

Old School methods will always work. And, never bury your head in the sand to new school techniques either.

That’s why it’s always important to trust your gut in Building Your Solopreneur Business

Staying Flexible Building Your Solopreneur Business

What a wild few weeks it has been. Have you missed me (GRIN!)

Let’s start with writing down our Monday Mantra - I stay focused on my true desire.

I have really been tested around this topic lately, which makes this Mantra so fitting.

First - iTunes and the Podcast.

I have had some major website challenges with “instability” and iTunes kicked me out of the store this past week, after my “RSS Feed” for my podcast began going up and down.

Techie stuff is NOT my strength or forte, and I am still in the process of getting it fixed. And, I WILL get it fixed.

I had a choice when it happened. Freak out; fall into a deep pit of despair, since it is a major source of leads and traffic, or take a deep breath, repeat the mantra and remember that above all, I am on track with the topic - Staying Flexible Building Your Solopreneur Business!”

People quit, people say no, websites go up and down. Shizzle happens!

How we react controls everything.

I am fully focused on my end goal and true desire, so I am not going to get frazzled by the little things that are fixable.

Have you read Rich Dad, Poor Dad or Cashflow Quadrant by Robert Kiyosaki? I read these in 1998 ish and they changed my whole perspective on what I am building. I am building a business asset for the long haul.

Are you?

When you know what you love, desire and are working toward, it’s easy to push through the little challenging obstacles and just keep going!!

You just have tunnel vision when you have a goal.  Keep going, no matter what.

As I mention on the show, I have some shifts going on in my business.

Is Fear Holding You Back in Your Direct Sales Business

Between Love and Fear, I choose Love.

Think about emotions and the concept of just two - Love and Fear.

When we are having success, it is wrapped up in excitement, joy, enthusiasm, feeling good. All of these ways of describing it fall under the emotional umbrella of Love. Kind of makes sense, doesn’t it?

When we are not having success, we can usually point to fear, procrastination, frustration, anger, feelings of inadequacy and more. And, we can get caught up in envy, resentment, jealousy, even.

These are all wrapped under the emotional umbrella of fear.

We procrastinate out of fear.

We feel frustrated because we are having fear, that is holding us back from taking those steps.

We do two things - and both involve connecting with another human being to see if they might be interested or know someone who is.

Think about that. When you break it down to its simplicity, you could talk to people literally all day. Pick any shopping mall and get busy.

But, we seldom do that. 

And why?

We have fear. What will they say? What will they think? 

If you learn the right skill sets though, we don’t ever have to worry about that.

We know what to say to build rapport. With anyone, anywhere. We know how to share what we do and ask for referrals, if they are not interested.

We know how to follow up and stay consistent with that. And, ideally we do all of that from a feeling of love, and excitement, and joy at what effect this might have on the person to whom we are speaking.

Fear, though is about Ego, and we are ego based when our main thought is about ourselves.

When you make your list and begin to contact those on the list to share your excitement about your products and the business, are you choosing to share with love?

Before each contact, simply say - Between Love and Fear, I choose Love.

Fear is normal, natural and there is probably not a person on the planet who will say they have not had fear at some point in their business.

Fear is a constant for many of us. Courage is not the absence of fear, but the desire for something greater and therefore a willingness to push through fear.

I did not say get over fear. I said push past it.

What steps will you take to push through your fear. To land on the other side where all great things are?

Attraction Marketing Online and Offline For Your Direct Sales Business

Being an entrepreneur is a unique gig. It is not always 8-5, and people sometimes ask me in a negative way why I might work on weekends. I find it interesting that the days of the week one works would determine one’s success?

If you know how to network offline, you’ll naturally know how to network online and not be a spammer and turn everyone off. It’s not an advertising platform, by any means.

My Story before the Internet.

I already had nearly 6 years and a team of 10,000 going on before I went online.

I had joined the Tempe Chamber of Commerce and was an Ambassador and was in front of people on a regular basis.

And, yes, I had BIG fears. Direct Sales at these networking events was not very common except Mary Kay and maybe Avon.

I took nearly 12 years off from Networking when I moved to Lake Arrowhead. When I re-entered the networking scene in Ventura, WOW - it was filled with Direct Sales - most of whom are going about it ALL WRONG.

Master your Message so you can Monetize your Message.

Know how to give a solid commercial that is engaging, informative and more like an infomercial than flat out advertising.

Know how to work these effectively! http://StreetSmartNetworker.com 

Learn how to dram people into the networking event. Develop some simple ice breakers and get them talking about themselves.

Comment on something they are wearing. Mention their accent. Find something to get them talking!

Build your top 100 list of clients, past and present, referral partners and future clients.

Figure out how you can provide value in what you know and offer. Position yourself as a resource for them and who they know.

Don’t make the mistake of leading with your opportunity at these events! These people are here at these events to promote their own business so approaching them at this event is a turn off.

Doesn’t mean they won’t be open, just save that for the one on one that you are going to schedule for later!

I am able to easily share and demo my business in about 20 minutes using my phone, our app and the videos.


Don’t take your network marketing business online out of fear. You’ll most often fall flat on your face.

Here are some things to avoid online -

Messenger - do not blatantly pitch and then especially apologize for it!

Change Your Thoughts and Explode Your Direct Sales Business

One Small positive thought can change my whole day.

Become aware of your thoughts. Become aware of your feelings.

If you aren’t having the success you want in Network Marketing, what are you thinking and saying about this?

Name the top the things in your life that you are spending most of your time thinking about these days. Write them down.

Now, think about how you think about these things. Are you mostly having positive or negative thoughts?

And, hoe much of your day is spent thinking about these things?

Begin to consciously shift the statements or questions you have around these issues.

Questions -

How might I….

What do I require to know to….

Who do I aspire to become…

What quality in me will attractive right people to my network marketing business?

How might I appeal to more people?

Each day, I am getting better and better. With each action step I take in my business.

What would be the worst that could happen? And, would I survive it?

What would be the best that could happen?

I used a hairband around my wrist and would pull it back and snap it on my wrist when I caught myself thinking negatively.

I was recently talking to someone at a networking event who found out what I do, and say - Oh, I’ve never been good at Network Marketing.

I simply asked - “Why? Why do you think you have not been good at network marketing?”

My goal is not to change her mind, but instead just to listen and see where the conversation leads us. 

“My friends and family are different…”

So, remember this - One Small positive thought can change my whole day. Say it, practice it and feel it within your whole body!


Why do I care more about what someone else thinks of me and my ego around it, than I do of my own desire to be successful?

 Discipline, Distraction and Daily Habits in Direct Sales

I love today’s topic because it brings up all of the issues that I personally have struggled with in my Direct Sales Career. So you won’t hear me say - oh, get over it!

I haven’t forgotten what it feels like to be there!

Wendy asks - I struggle with taking daily action and getting new habits set.

Let’s start with WHY, and also what is it you are struggling with? Are you blocking time for those 2 income producing activities that we do in Network Marketing?

Write down your action plan and those habits you must do!

Mary asks - Fear of making phone calls!! I will put it off and avoid avoid avoid- even doing housework to avoid. I love your podcast, and feel inspired and ready to take off in my business when listening, but just like always, fear of the phone knocks the inspiration right out of me.  I love what I do and get told all of the time by clients and newcomers to parties that I am good at this,  but when I have to call for bookings, I convince myself I want to quit every time. I survive and get by as a part time business (full time SAHM of 5) on word of mouth, but I know if I could overcome this, I could do so well. Booking in the moment and recruiting in the moment haven't been successful because I seem to be surrounded by women who are as busy as I am and not looking for a career. 
I would love to turn this love into a successful career now that kids are in school but this issue gives me a stomachache, keeps me up at night, and right now even- I break into a serious sweat!

Yes, many do struggle with Discipline, Distraction and Daily Habits in Direct Sales! I sure did. Thanks Mary, for being so real and authentic.

3 pieces to this - Phone Fear, Success Language and Talking to the right people.

Could you text or send a Facebook message to introduce your direct sales business, instead of using the phone to call?

What are you saying that creates a win win to your potential party host? Why would she open her home, her refrigerator and her rolodex for you? Success Language is  everything.

And, I get it on being surrounded by other busy moms who don’t want a side business.

Get yourself out in front of business people. Introduce to everyone, but know that business oriented people usually get it faster.

Helen says - My biggest obstacle with my home based business at the moment, I feel is the fact that I do not have enough discipline and I am easily distracted.  In addition to this, I also work as an English and Italian tutor (I do this right now to put food on the table, I am a single mom with NO support from my ex.), and I am having a difficult time deciding how to share my working time between the two businesses. (eventually I would like to stop working as a tutor and dedicate all my time into growing my business.)

How strong is that why and what will you sacrifice to get there? How badly do you want to be full time in your business?

"How come you've never shared this before?"

Ackkkk, busted. Well, sort of.

Truth is, I have shared this and taught all
of this before. But, mostly just to my own
Direct Sales Team.

Why? Because most everyone has always
been so caught up in being "afraid" of talking
to their warm market, that they blocked out
anything that was about creating

New Warm Market Offline!

Here is the funny thing about warm market -

Everyone IS a warm market to someone. So, even
if you attract leads online - they know someone who is
probably in a business their friend would LOVE....

And join.....

But, they don't KNOW about it.

But, I digress.....

Yes, I worked my business 100% ONLINE
for over a decade, when I lived in a small
mountain community without a top light
and certainly no real offline networking.

When I moved to a bigger city at the beach,
and my children were grown, I jumped back
into the offline world of networking.

And, I sold over $17,000 in products
in a few short months as a DIRECT RESULT
of NETWORKING offline.

Here was the key though -

I learned and MASTERED a few key things -

One - I learned how to create a ROCK
SOLID Commercial (elevator pitch, etc!)

Second, I learned how to "sell without selling!"
(What the WHAT?!?!?! Yes, this can be done!)

Third, I perfected how to get my business in
front of ALMOST ANYONE with just ONE key 
question.

Fourth, I became a MASTER at follow up
and building relationships BEFORE the sale.

Fifth, AND PROBABLY THE BEST PART -

I mastered how to bring social media (Facebook
and LinkedIn, specifically) into the equation
and build MUCH faster relationships and
create interest in ME and then my business.

I was recently approached to teach this
at a training event, and it went REALLY well.

And, so I decided to do what I LOVE and
that is bring it online so everyone can
learn these skills.

That's all it is - LEARNED skills.

Look For Adventure and Opportunity in Your Direct Sales Business

As I always say - write down our mantra each week, and commit it to memory. Say it - My Life is an exciting adventure filled with opportunity and reward.  - many times throughout the day.

Feel what those words mean to you. Close your eyes and visualize a scene of that happening.

What is adventure in your life and business?

What is opportunity in your life and business?

What is reward in your life and business?

I want to share a little of my past week.

Monday, I had an appointment to sign up a new client in my business. I chiropractic office who wants to do a  better jog remembering birthdays and appreciating their clients, and want a little Social Media training, too.

I plugged the address into Siri and set off. What an ADVENTURE. I ended up in the sticks, and felt sure I was lost, but decided to do my best and enjoy the sheer beauty of the adventure. It was fabulous, and I arrived right on time.

The peaceful drive also gave way to a phone call with a Real Estate agent in Idaho, who ended up being my latest team partner.

That was adventure, opportunity and reward.

The client meeting went great and I am getting them launched this week.

Another adventure, opportunity and reward. I met some great people, too.

Tuesday, I was invited to share my business and products at a Chamber of Commerce Lunch and Learn. It went great and I picked up some solid business leads, as well as had a great video shot and shared on my Facebook wall. You can see it over at my Facebook profile. Link in the show notes.

That immediately generated 3 leads online, of local people who are part of the Chamber and saw the video they had shared.

More adventure, opportunity and reward.

Always remember to Look For Adventure and Opportunity in Your Direct Sales Business.

Thursday, I was invited to help so video interviews for several business in Arizona for part of a networking colleagues new project, Who is Arizona. 

I debated cancelling, as I am not as far along as I would like to be on a project I am working on with my sales store and products, Facebook Ads and my marketing funnels.

And so the thought of a day shot was not exciting. But, I also knew it would be good exposure and get me in front of some highly connected people.

Boy, am I ever glad I went!

I am now a prominent part of that website, with my face and voice in a lot if videos. I also was able to create a professional, 3 minute video of my own that I can use on my own site and in promotions!

Very exciting stuff.

I also shared a 15 minute presentation to all of the businesses on High Tech/High Touch Marketing, how to generate endless leads. I have several prospects to follow up with!

Again, more adventure, opportunity and reward.

What role does your mindset play in this success?

Set a 90 day challenge to be mindful each day, in prayer and meditation.

Write down ten ideas each day, for 30-90 days. Pay attention to where inspired action shows up.

You must take action in your business so success is not about NOT doing anything.

That's the issue many had with the secret.

Learn how to bring positive vibrational energy and thoughts to the actions you take in your business.

Should I Build My Business or My Brand

This is a question I am asked quite often and it usually involves some conversation around Time, and how to fit it all in. And, it's about offline, old school network marketing and contacting your warm market list, going to networking events and other activities.

Or, creating content such as blogging, videos and social media.

Here are the key points -

Your BRAND is you, whether offline or online.

You ALWAYS want to do some form of income producing activities FIRST.

If you know my story, you know that I was building my business for 6 years offline before I discovered the power of the internet, and while it changed my business, I probably would have never gotten to that point if I had not developed the commitment and the business skills needed to move forward.

Your BRAND is your online content as well as who you "are" offline. What do people say to describe you, and your business?

Can they sum it up in a sentence? Two sentences?

One thing I love about building the online piece of your brand is the leverage it gives you.

Spend 3 hours at a networking event and get your commercial and business in front of 50 people - GREAT.

But, no one else can ever experience that presentation or that time again.

Create a video and share it on Facebook or YouTube, ten, one hundred, and thousands can see and experience that over time.

THAT is powerful.

And, it takes time, focus and consistency.

Give yourself a 90 day challenge. Right now, I am challenging myself to massive networking offline for 90 days, and facebook live online!

I'm focused on building my audience in both places.

Success and Achievement in Direct Sales

Success and Achievement are natural outcomes for me.

Think about those words, and the feelings you have around them.

Take each word one at a time, specifically the words Success and Achievement.

When you think of success, what comes to mind? How do you define success in your own life?

How about the word achievement?

For much of my life, I defined success purely around my career and the income I earned from my career. Success was almost only about money for me.

It's how I defined my success.

I work with a lot of women and many are stay home moms now, and they had rewarding careers before motherhood.

Dad, too, often.

Many of these women do not control the checkbook and money is doled out to them and they are often controlled by the money, or lack of it.

It can be very disempowering to go from having money and an income to being dependent and having to ask for money.

It can leave one feeling vulnerable, scared, unworthy and frustrated, among other things.

When I was 14, I had a disagreement with my mom about my back to school clothes and the budget she gave me.

She flippantly told me to get a job and so I did.

I never looked back and I loved the control it gave me over my life, my decisions, what I wore, what I could do and buy.

Today, I am finally comfortable and confident saying - I am motivated by money!

And, I am. I am ambitious.

It's okay for women to feel this way. It's not uncool to be a woman who feels this way.

Money gives us the ability to be a better giver. It gives us more opportunity. It's not the root of all evil.

We put labels on ourselves as women, very often. As Women.

It's not always the men.

Achievement is a word that works much the same way.

As a child, achievement was about ribbons and trophies and how I earned the money. It was about awards.

I've finally grown past that and realize that achievement can be as simple as -

Crossing things off my to do list.

Eating Well.

Working out.

Having fun with family and friends.

Once I learned to shift my thoughts around success and achievement, things really changed for me.

By allowing myself to feel successful and a sense of achievement in other ways besides money and career, it opened up the pathway for me to experience more success in the monetary sense.

What do these words mean for you?

Write it down, say it, and spend the week getting a clear picture on what these words mean to you.

Success and Achievement in Direct Sales starts with this solid affirmation -

Success and Achievement are natural outcomes for me.

State of the Direct Sales Profession March 2017

Success leaves clues and I want to share with you some of my personal results for this past month.

I've just finished up a "Best Personal Month" for February, 2017, and I like sharing my own personal results so you can be in the trenches with me, so to speak, and know that I practice what I TEACH.

I'm also a coach and trainer, as well as building my own team in Direct Sales and so there is no theory here.

Here is what we cover -

How to create your OWN economy in Direct Sales, regardless of politics or who the President is.

Networking - my 90 day blitz. And what I've learned.

Lead with Product, not Opportunity.

Schedule those 1 on 1 meetings with those who you resonate with.

Follow up - don't drop the ball.

Carry business cards. It's just a sign of a pro!

Customers - another hot topic. Build a solid, long term business with customers!

I Find the Beauty in Life and Business - Monday Mantra

Today’s mantra is Today I Find the Beauty in Life and Business. Say this all week. Write it down and speak it out loud, put it on your phone, on a sticky note on your mirror and anywhere to regularly remind yourself of what you are doing.

Wow, what a week it has been. Amazing things have shown up, It's funny how all of life and business are aligned and what a powerful role gratitude can play in bringing more of everything you want into life and business!

I practice gratitude every morning, day and night. I love stopping, being present in the moment and appreciating what I HAVE and appreciating knowing that more is coming.

Amazing things have shown up this week. One chance networking event, that I tried to talk myself out of, ;ed me to meet a beautiful woman, who invited me to an amazing party, where I connected with other amazing people and I ended up at a high end networking event that blew my socks off.

It's bringing good things my way and reinforcing how far I have grown!

Right before I recorded this, I received an exciting text from a great gal who is joining me in business. So, that is beautiful!

I met with a gentleman today and I feel like I can add such value to his business. And that is beautiful.

Be grateful for all encounters. Listen for the messages. Learn from every event.

So, practice today's #Affirmation, and see what shows up.

For the next week, practice our Monday Mantra for Direct Sales Success. Say it to yourself first thing in the morning, and last thing at night, before you go to sleep. And, repeat it many times throughout the day.

What’s Hot -

Customers - YES, there is no sin in having customers. We are moving away from just the personal consumption model, and putting more emphasis on Customers. The recent rulings by the FTC on companies like Vemma, Fortune HiTech, and even Herbalife to some extent, these past few years, more companies are putting much more emphasis on customers. And, this is a great way to get your own auto ship covered. 

IT keeps people in the game and gives them some immediate success.


Networking Events - these are also hot. These people are ripe for one on ones, and getting together to learn about your business and of course get the opportunity to share about their own. The challenge most network marketers have is that they don’t know how to be a professional networker. What to DO with that stack of business cards.

At the event, lead with your product up front, and then share the opportunity side during the one on one!

You must expand your warm market because no one can build a business solely on the backs of friends and family. Get out and meet some people!!

What else is hot - 3rd Party Approach and Referrals - get very comfortable asking for referrals and using the 3rd party approach. Resistance is created when you come AT people vs asking for a favor.

Asking for an opinion is always in style! People love to give opinions and do favors!

Follow Up - this is another HOT topic in ALL of business. What to do with that stack of business cards? See my video above on Facebook to get a GREAT idea of what to do.

Treat Your Business Like a Business - have set hours. These can be whenever you want, but you must commit to a specific number of hours and activities each day.

Facebook Live - VERY hot in whatever business you are in.  Set a 30 day challenge do do Facebook live. And don’t worry about being great. Very few people will even SEE it when you are just starting. Remember Advertising 101 - it takes 7-9 times, on average, to make a sale! So consistency is important so you catch your prospect when the time is right!

Friends List - Creating new warm market on Facebook is huge, and an easy way to keep track of people is to sort them into lists. Your friends and contacts are your working inventory in your business. They are the ones who buy products; who buy/sell homes; who become team partners. Find people on Social Media sites and connect.

LinkedIn is really hot for building business relationships.


Samples - people are receptive to samples and trying things. Use part of your auto ship and SAMPLE!

Instagram Stories and Snapchat are also Hot in Social Media!

Ask people the best place to connect with them. Identify where your target audience is hanging out!


So what is NOT hot?

Blatant Pitching - your target audience and prospects you would LOVE to bring into your business are watching you and the last thing they want to do is spam their friends. When you are blatant pitching on your wall, they are running far and fast.

Share things that create curiosity, above all.

Your Facebook Business page is where you want to conduct the bulk of your business!

Engage with people, including thought leaders. Not everyone is going to join your business, but they can help create exposure for you 

Adding People to Facebook Groups - this is SO not cool. It’s like ripping someone away from a conversation they are having and plopping them down in your living room.

Poor Listening. Online and Offline. But face to face, do not get on your phone in the middle of a conversation. Make the person you are speaking with at the moment the most important person in the universe at that time!


Join my team - this is WAY old school online and offline. Yuck. Where is the “What’s in It For Me?” 

Don’t use company graphics - bring yourself into the photo because that create authenticity.

Don’t use Salesy terminology like - “The Best”, Share the value in what you offer and let others tell YOU why it is the best.

Do Your Best in Direct Sales

Today’s mantra is Today I gave it my best and tomorrow will be even better. Say this all week. Write it down and speak it out loud, put it on your phone, on a sticky note on your mirror and anywhere to regularly remind yourself of what you are doing.

Let's face it, we only control so much of what goes on in our lives. We control our emotions, our thoughts, feelings and our actions. Our actions are how you do your best in Direct Sales.

If you will make sure that each and every day, you give it your very best, you will be happier, and success will naturally make its way to you.

Practice this in each area of your life, not just your direct sales business.

How can you do your best?

Show up with an action plan and actually ACT on it. Do income producing activities in your business. Reach out to two people a day and use the 3rd party approach.

Follow up. Be interested in others. Be engaged and be about more than just business. Always ask - how can I create a win win in business with my prospects and those who are interested?

Be a professional.

Be able to look yourself in the mirror at the end of each day and say - if everyone on my team did what I did today, we will all be sitting on a beach together soon, sipping coconut drinks!

Be the leader! Every day - Do Your Best in Direct Sales!

How to Get More Facebook Fans

This really is the QUESTION of the year. Who doesn’t want to know more How to Get More Facebook Fans and likes.

We don’t want to wear out our friends with constantly posting on our Facebook profile, and yet we want to do business on Facebook.

Facebook has gone to more of a pay to play model, but there are plenty of pages that are getting engagement and growing without spending money, or at least not a lot. So how to Get More Facebook Fans without paying a fortune, then?


Create quality content.
Personally invite your TARGET audience.
The #1 Way to get eyeballs to your page.
Be consistent.

Creating Quality content that your target audience is interested in on Facebook helps tremendously with how to Get More Facebook Fans.

Did you listen to the show last week on the Facebook Algorithm? Go to JackieUlmer.com/282 to first understand this, so you can know how your content will better show up.

This leads me to #2 on our top 4 list, which is personally inviting your target audience to like your page. This is so important.

Do not use the Invite people feature that Facebook is going to show you. Why? How many times are you invited to Like a page and then just ignore it? Or miss it altogether?

Those notifications are annoying to many people and seldom really create likes and certainly don’t create raving fans, which is what you really want.

You only want to invite your target audience. And, have you taken time to identify who that is? Spend some time creating your target audience avatar and know who you are speaking to with the content you create.

Contrary to popular belief, it is not everyone. Fine tune the qualities you are looking for in your top prospect and speak mostly to that person. You will attract others.

My focus for years was stay home moms, as that is who I was and I could speak that language very well.

Today, I focus on Real Estate Agents, Solopreneurs and those in Direct Sales because I have something that can help them move their business forward.

So, what is your focus? What are the qualities of the perfect person for working with you? What are their challenges and pains? What solutions do you provide?

When you know these things, you can more easily create content that speaks to that audience.

Also, if you struggle with creating content, I have a done for you content program that is going to give you 3 pieces of content weekly that can be used on your blog, and on social media. This will get you in the habit of creating content and understanding your audience and what gets engagement.

The 3rd piece in the equation to get more likes is Facebook Live. There is seriously no better way to get views, likes and engagement right now than Facebook Live. And, VERY few people are using it, so why aren’t you? 

The first time, just give it a try. Have fun and let people know you are just testing it out to see how it works. Share something funny or engaging and just get the first go at it out of the way.

Try to always end with a call to action. Live video can be an integral part of your social media marketing, so make the most of it by directing your audience to a specific place. Include a simple call to action at the end of your video, such as to visit your website or private message you for more information on the topic. Send them to your list or free giveaway. This is a powerful way to grow your list.


Finally, be consistent. You need to create a regular posting schedule so that you DO show up in the newsfeed of your target audience. Teach your fans how to select See First option when they like your page so your info does show up for them.

Begin to post daily and then bump it up to 3 times a day, at varied times. Check your insights to see when your fans are most likely to see your content based on when they are on the site. Facebook provides you with all of this info.

Intentional Mindset for Direct Sales Success 

Thoughts are things, and we know this. It’s nothing new. What you think about, will come about.

Look where you are in your life right now. This is your vision, and you are living the intentions you practice, whether you like it or not.

Want to change it up? Shift your thoughts. Start with a mantra. This week, say to yourself - I have an Intentional Mindset for Direct Sales Success, and then practice our mantra -

 I intentionally develop the mindset, thoughts, and beliefs I need to move past the friction and obstacles in my life.

Think about these 3 key things for a minute -

Mindset - check in on what your mindset is telling you regarding your business. Is it empowering, or disempowering?

Thoughts - check in on your thoughts regarding your success in Direct Sales. Have you had success? Have you taken action? What role do your thoughts play in either one? Your success and your actions? Our thoughts determine where we do, what we do.

Beliefs - mindset and thoughts enforce our beliefs. What do you believe about Direct Sales? Do you believe it works? Do you believe it only works for others?

When you reflect on these 3 things, what do they tell you about your Intentional Mindset for Direct Sales Success? Have you set yourself up for the success you want?

Understanding the Facebook Algorithm 

Do you ever wonder how or why certain things show up in your newsfeed? How come you see Susie Q’s updates all of the time; and yet only occasionally see Joe Rockstars?

While Facebook never reveals exactly how the algorithm works, there is one and there are things we can figure out just by paying attention. 

A lot of what you see is going to be determined by a few key things -

How many friends you have
Your interests and those things you comment, like and engage about
Videos you watch
Common interests you share with others

Those are just a few.

Now, if you live in the US, and you experienced, or are experiencing the political circus we have going on with the November 2016 Election of Donald Trump; the defeat of Hilary Clinton and all of the craziness that has surrounded the political circles. 

Facebook has been full of “fake news”, Alternative news, mud slinging and unfriending. It’s a little scary to be out there.

Now, as you are listening to this, and depending on where you live, you may be oblivious to this. If so, it’s because of where you live, and the fact that you have not liked, commented or engaged much with anyone who is sharing about the election or politics.

I don’t personally get involved in politics on Facebook, but I do occasionally read the posts of others, or watch some video. Overtime I do that, I get a barrage of political stuff that overtakes my newsfeed.

Why? Well, Facebook noticed what I was clicking on and watching, even though I was not commenting or liking. Based on this, Facebook began to show me more of this because it assumed that I wanted to see this, was interested in this subject because I was clicking and watching.

This will help you have a better Understanding of the Facebook Algorithm. In a nutshell, that is how it works.

Facebook only shows up to 300 pieces of content in anyone’s newsfeed at any time. And, they are going to show you what they think you want to see, based on your friends, your interests, new friends you’ve made, pages you like, groups you belong to, things you’ve interacted on already, searches you’ve done and so on.

Have you ever thought that Facebook is saturated for your company, or even direct sales? Nothing could be further from the truth! Facebook is showing you what it thinks you want to (with no judgement) based on YOU and how you have told it to behave!

You tell Facebook how to behave with you based on your profile; your background; your friends; your interests; where you’ve been; who you’ve been with; what you did; who you tagged; keywords in your profile; business pages you like; new interests you have (like a new company, and new friends and new pages/groups based around that) and so on!

When you make friends with someone, Facebook sees what your common interests are. If you interact a lot, especially in the beginning, Facebook will show you more from that person and your mutual interests. 

When you engage with people, Facebook shows you their content, which is why you will notice if you pay attention that Facebook shows you mostly the people you interact with most frequently.

Take my son, for example. He’s on Facebook but is not a raving fan, nor social media junkie. He posts occasionally, and likes/engages from time to time. Unless I go find his page; or he tags me; or a bunch of our mutual friends interact with one of his status updates, he almost NEVER shows up organically in my newsfeed.

Creating friends lists can help you stay more engaged with the right people and move outside of that 300 post limit Facebook is choosing for you.

Monday Mantra I Am Enough 

I am enough. What thoughts come up for you when you hear, read or say that phrase to yourself?

The dictionary quotes enough as - adequate, sufficient and fully.

What is it that cause us to feel like less than enough? We feel inadequate; insufficient and like we are not fully….enough.

How do you view success? What does success mean to you? How do you measure it?

It’s often a monetary way that we measure success. And, we base it on our work or career.

Work - how do you feel like you are, or are not enough? How might you become “enough?”

Relationships - how do you define my relationships and how do you feel like you are, or are not enough? How might you become “enough?”

Success - same here - how do you feel like you are, or are not enough? How might you become “enough?” What would practicing our Monday Mantra I am Enough - do for you?

Understand the timeline of success, follow up, longevity and consistency in your business, and learn not to measure your success by what happens TODAY, or who joins TODAY. 

Shift your success measurement around the action steps that you need and must take to get you where you want to be.

Gratitude is the foundation of all success, and an important part of your life and business. Practice gratitude today just by looking around.

Ask yourself - do I have enough today RIGHT now, to survive? Am I fed, clothed, warm, have shelter?

Try a 30 day gratitude challenge where you jot down 10 things you are grateful for once in the morning and again at night. Watch how this moves you to the next level and creates more in your life.

Write it down - I Am ENOUGH.

Bugs on the Windshield in Direct Sales

On a recent road trip, I experienced firsthand some "bugs on the windshield." We were out of the city,  driving up a mountain and drove through a LARGE swarm of some kind of big, awful bug and our windshield was SOAKED in guts and water (sorry, a little graphic!)
 
It made me think about some of the current trends in life and business and that phrase we hear in Network Marketing - "Bugs on the Windshield."
 
Sometimes, you get pounded with a swarm -
 
Someone who was really being counted on quits.
 
Someone who was really being counted on signs up with someone else.
 
The company won't change the labels.
 
There are too many conference calls.
 
There is too much training.
 
There are too many emails.
 
An email or phone call doesn't get returned quickly enough.
 
The answer can't be found.
 
 
Whatever it is, all of us have those times that we feel the bugs have invaded. It's going to happen in life; friendships; with children; and with our life partners. Sometimes, it invades an entire town or community. It certainly happens in business.
 
You've heard it before - Tough times don't last but tough people do.
 
You are here because you are "a tough people!!!" (Okay, person.)
 
 
NOTE TO SELF - STOP WHINING; STOP THE PITY PARTY; STOP FEELING SORRY FOR YOURSELF; GET OFF YOUR DUFF AND GET BACK IN THE GAME.
 
Now, before you think that was directed at you, please read on. That is the copy from a note that I placed on my closet door a few years back.
 
I won't get into all of the reasons I put that there, but they were all personal and had to do with fires; neighbors who lost everything and moved; a neighbor diagnosed terminal who passed away last week; and the helplessness and "survivor guilt" that surrounds all of that. I went through a period when I just couldn't get revved up to work on my business. It felt almost "trivial" in light of all that had been lost.
 
The reality is, I can't change any of that. Just like, in most cases, none of us can change the things that are dealt to us that seem devastating. As another leader recently shared about their local tragedy, we all have a choice in how we look at things and what we do about them; how we react.
 
Seasons come and go. Spring brings buds, blooms and new growth. Winter and Fall are like a "death"; a cleansing. We have this same thing in our lives and in our businesses.
 
Things change; people change; teams change. My son cried his 7 year old heart out at the end of his first hockey season. He knew he would not get the same team again the next season. He was right. He had a different team; and another one the next season, and so on. And they were all wonderful in their own way, and yet different.
 
Our team's will change; leadership changes; products change, and yet there is always reason to embrace that change and make room for the new that awaits. It's all about looking at the door opening and not at the one closing.
 
You are a champion. And, you have a championship season ahead of you. If you just stay in the game, you won't choke at the free throw line. You'll sink the ball; be lifted on the team's shoulders and ride off into the sunset.
 
When business "slow downs" happen, the first thing to look at is yourself. Did you change anything? Make an adjustment? Take time out to do this, that or the other thing? What are you doing differently? Are you taking the same action steps daily?
 
There are two things that speak loud and clear – results and excuses.

Which do you produce more of on a daily basis? 
When your business isn't moving forward the way you want it to, who do you blame?
When chaos consumes your life, who do you blame?
At the end of the day, when you are in a funk, who do you blame?

In my early days in my business, I lived with a lot of excuses and blame –

Things will be better when the company does THIS.
Things will be better when my downline does THAT.
More people will be interested when THIS happens.
What a train wreck that kind of thinking was!

I have watched people spend thousands of dollars and thousands of hours building systems and the "perfect" mousetrap, and yet no more mice were caught. I've looked for that holy grail as well.

Success in this business is NOT about systems; NOT about the next new product; NOT about the perfect script; NOT about what others can and should do for you.

Yes, systems can help; and new products are nice; and new scripts may feel more comfortable. But they are not what determine your ultimate success.

Success in this business, day in and day out, lies with YOU.

Every day, success is a choice. Every step you take and every step you delay determines your success.

What steps will you take and what steps will you delay today? The answers will determine your success and the speed of it.

 Today, I feel empowered by what lies ahead; challenged by the new things coming; new trainings being taught and new ways of reaching out to people.

We don't need more training; more calls; or more "stuff." We just need more nuts and bolts action.

Everything anyone needs to be successful is available. The leaders will reach out and grab it. You just need to point them in the right direction and certainly, support them. Everyone here does that just fine.

If someone on your team doesn't take action, and you know you have done your job in pointing and supporting, please don't feel that somehow you haven't done enough or could be doing more. Success and the desire for it comes from within each person. 

Some who are here had no real sponsorship at all and yet they sought out what they needed. The leaders will always do that. Be there to celebrate and embrace the moment with them.

Listening for Direct Sales Success

Listening truly is the greatest skill you can develop. It will help you in every relationship you have - spouse, children, parents, sibling, all family, friends and business associates. Seriously - everyone!

Michael Smith says - I know you understand what you think I said. But I’m not sure you realize that what you HEARD is not what I meant.

Network Marketing is about developing leadership skills, and it’s about developing others as leaders, too. The core skill is to develop and master the art of listening.

Do other’s GET what you are saying? Do they feel heard?

The big problem is that most of us listen with our own agenda, especially in prospecting situations. Instead of asking a valid questions and then listening authentically for the answer, we are on ready=set-go to respond with a pre-canned response, because we think we know not only what they are going to say, but what they mean.

We know what we are going to say, and we are happy with it. So, it;s not really SPEAKING that is the most significant part of communication. Instead it is the LISTENING.

Because when someone feels HEARD, you become the most interesting person in the world, and you now have an amazing opportunity to get your message across and have an interested person.

Now, this is not about tricking or coercing someone, it’s about lowering the resistance and encouraging the ongoing conversation.

Network Marketing is about relationships and that is about conversations. Conversations are about two or more people speaking and listening, authentically,

Become aware of how YOU listen. This will make you a better communicator. And, you might be surprised at your own listening skills, or lack of them.

We often listen in a way that sets us up to think about what the other person is thinking.

What do they think about me?

My involvement in Network Marketing?

How can I Impress them?

What are they wanting to hear?

How many times have you been in a conversation and those thoughts creep in?

How many times have you been looking for the perfect script, and seeking it from your upline and those who you encounter?

Have you ever heard no and taken it personally? What’s wrong with me or my opportunity?

Do you listen and want validation?

Do you desperately seek a family member or good friend to host a party, or refer others? And then when they don’t we get offended?

Have you ever thought that you know better then your prospect what is good or right for him/her?

This can greatly derail you, if you feel this way, because you place all power outside of yourself.

We make judgements about right, wrong, good, bad and so on.

How many times, in a conversation, have you defaulted to those thoughts?

Do you obsess over what people think of you? Their opinion of your choice to create a career with Network Marketing? 

Be willing to let people off the hook who you know are not ready at this time.

Do you have FOMO - a fear of missing out? Change that to JOMO - Joy of Missing Out.

Be willing to commit to doing the right thing, creating a true win-win, and saying - I want the very best for YOU. Not me, but you!

Never lose a friendship over business. It’s not worth it.

Decide to become a powerful listener.

Be willing to “walk a mile in their shoes.”

We all come from unique situations and as much as we think we know; we don’t know!

A no has nothing to do with you.

Listen for cues - what’s going in their world, their life, and what makes this not the right time?

Have faith - you will sponsor some of these on down the road.

At the same time, listen for possibilities and cues. You just never know! People will come back to you. Leave that door open and never burn a bridge.

What you listen for shapes your reality and when you listen in a way that honors your prospect, that will reward you on down the road. When the time is back.

Focus on becoming a great listener and watch how your business grows!

Follow Up Fortune in Direct Sales

Some people in Direct Sales are great at follow up and most are not. We come from an employee mindset. We clock in, clock out, and get paid without being involved in “sales” for the most part.

Most people don’t understand the buying cycle of selling, or the psychology of selling because we are afraid of the war SALES and we don’t like to think we are in sales. I’m not talking about the browbeating, bugging everyone type of sales, either.

When you know what to say and use good success language. you won’t be afraid. Learn more about mastering the art of good language in selling in my Street Smart Scripts program.

Know what to say and how to say it and you won’t be afraid of following up, or inviting for the first time.

Ask them to join you after each business overview. Most people miss this key point.

We think that if they are interested in our business, they will raise their hand

Exclusive Club - invite them into your exclusive Direct Sales team club.

“So, are you ready to get started?” “Are you ready to get started making money now?” “Will you join me in this business? I would love to work with you.”

Yes, no or maybe will be the answer.

If they say yes, sign them up on the spot.

If they say no, ask for feedback. “Tell me what it is that makes you say no? I would love to know and don’t worry, I’m not going to try and convince you. It just helps me be better.”

Honor that and then don’t try to talk them into it.

Most will be a maybe. Ask them - what information can I provide to take you to a yes.

You just be positive and have a positive outlook all throughout the business. Even with the nos. Doesn’t mean there is anything wrong with you, your company, product or Network Marketing.

You must be patient. And, follow up. People do change their minds.

I’m a perfect example. If you know my story!  LINK!!!!!

I was not interested and never thought in a million years I would be doing network marketing.

How do we create Follow Up Fortune in Direct Sales and be effective?

Always book a meeting from a meeting. “When is a good time for me to check back with you?”

Often, your prospect will tell you that they will call you after they have reviewed the information. That’s fine, but it will serve you well to then make the following statement -

“That’s great Sue, and if I don’t hear from you by XYZ date, I’ll call you that day at 2:00pm. Sound good?”

This sets you up for success and they know you are a professional.

How do you handle the dos in Direct Sales? This is where most people drop the ball. We feel rejected and feel like there is something wrong and we are then afraid to ever check back.

I use the 3-6 month rule for follow up.

I send a thank you card, a physical carder everyone who looks at my business.

Set yourself apart as a professional by sending a card, and get them into your database. Use this database to keep in touch and follow up. Every 3 - 6 months, keep in touch.

Keep in touch on birthdays, anniversaries and other odd holidays when they wouldn’t typically hear from someone.

Also, keep them informed on any changes and positive happenings within the company. Use the third party approach.

Remember to stay positive, stay patient, and persistent.

Sales Stats

48% never follow up with a prospect.
25% follow up just one time
12% follow up 3 times.
Only 10% make more than 3 contacts
2% of sales occur on the first contact
3% of sales occur on the second contact
80% of sales are made on the 5th to 12th contact or follow up.

Think about what that means in your business! What if you started using that 3-6 month rule with your prospects.

Learn success language and develop your mindset for success.

Timing is absolutely everything and it is your prospect’s timing, not yours.

Use a contact manager, and a system to stay automated and organized in your follow up. Now you know about Follow Up Fortune in Direct Sales! Keep in touch 3-6 times a year and catch them when they are ready!

It's important to know that success in direct sales is not about get rich quick. If someone has told you to expect this, then run far and run fast. 

Steady, stable and growing networks that generate residual income for decades are very rarely get rich quick. You must build for longevity if you want it to last and create the income and lifestyle you desire. 

The hardest part is to stick and stay til you get your pay. 

Here is what you want to make sure you have in place to fulfill your 4 year plan. 

First, set a realistic expectation of how fast it's going to happen; how fast you are going to act; and what it's going to take. 

If you want to develop a 6 figure income, you must first develop a 6 figure mindset and as important, a 6 figure work ethic. 

Next, write out your action plan. This is so simple in Network Marketing. The problem is that most people think about what needs to be done; they study the concepts behind what needs to be done; but they don't actually ever take the action because of fear and doubt. 

So, let's suspend fear for now and visualize yourself already having the success you desire. 

Look at that action plan you've written out and ask - what would I take action on today, right now, if I did not have fear? 

Now just take that action. Let go of that fear. Do the thing that scares you and see that you actually do survive it! 

Know the fundamental skills you need to develop and work on that every day. 

I'm often asked - how many people should I talk to each day? The answer is- the number you need to in order to feel like a success and begin to see success show up. Feeling successful comes before being successful. 

Learn how to make a viable list; what to say to contact that list; how to invite; present; follow up and ask them to join you. Know the steps to take to get them trained and launched. 

Rinse and repeat - do this over and over. As you do this, you will shape yourself into a leader. And, you'll further develop the leadership skills you need to take your business to the top. I LOVE and appreciate reviews!

Many people start a business in Direct Sales.It's not that difficult and people do it every day. What very few do though is actually plan to succeed. 

Think about how little it takes to start- a decision and room on a credit card. It takes much more to make a success of that decision, however. 

So here are 4 simple steps that if followed can take you to the level you want in your Direct Sales business. 

These aren't rocket science. But most people don't follow these 4 steps. Have you? 

#1 - Get very clear about what it is you want from your direct sales business. Write it down, very clearly and in very specific detail. Do you want to quit your job? This means you want to create a full time, replacement income from your Direct Sales business. 

How much does that mean you need to make after expenses and taxes? What do you need to be netting? 

Think about this step. Have you taken it? Have you clearly written down what you really want from your Direct Sales business? 

#2 - Find an accountability partner. Then, share your written intention with this person and ask him/her to hold you accountable. It's like a gym buddy. You are much more likely to see the job through when you have someone to answer to. Sadly, most of us can't or won't do it on our own. 

An accountability partner can become not only a good friend, but a strong companion in building your business. So, choose this person wisely. 

#3 - Do something every day that shows that you are serious and committed to your goal; your reason why; your intention. It can be one thing, or it can be many things. Single Daily Actions that are income producing activities are the key to making things happen. 

Busy work such as conference calls, checking email, surfing on facebook are all forms of distraction and procrastination. 

#4 - Do something each day that stretches you a little. It could be contacting someone on your "chicken list" or hosting  a live call. These stretch are what will get your to your goal faster. 

You'll find that once you stretch yourself  and it doesn't kill you, you'll begin to stretch even more and find leaving your comfort zone it easy. 

So there you have 4 simple, yet often challenging steps you can take to Plan to Succeed in Direct Sales.

Vision to Move Your Direct Sales Business Forward

We’ve launched a new year with 2017, and now is the perfect time to craft a new and improved vision for your business!

Your vision becomes your reality! And, you need a strong vision to Move Your Direct Sales Business Forward!

Hope is not a plan, although it is important to your business.

A goal without a deadline is just a wish.

Do you want results in your business in a reasonable amount of time?

Clear out the clutter, get into action on your goals and expect success, like I always say.

Create daily, weekly, monthly and yearly goals.

It ALL starts in the mind, just like the smartphone, device or computer that you are listening to this on.

Write your vision down, create a dream board or a dream book, or call is a goal book/board, and add some pictures that reinforce your vision. Create a POWERFUL Vision to Move Your Direct Sales Business Forward!

Your Direct Sales Focus Word for the Year

A focus word is something you want to choose carefully and based around what you are working toward in your direct sales business. Or, a word you want to move away from, to some extent.

My word for my Direct Sales business for 2016 was Mastery. And, I really struggled with this for the first half of the year, feeling like my goal of creating “Mastery” in the areas I was working on wasn’t happening.

I chose mastery because I wanted to really choose a book, a project or something that I am working toward and MASTER it. So, instead of reading a book a week, or a book a month, and then not ever REALLY putting the knowledge in the book into action, I wanted to pick 12 books, one a month, that I had already read, and like, and dig down deep into putting what I’ve learned into action and really creating mastery!

However, toward the end of the year, I realized why mastery was the word I had picked, and how I was taking control and MASTERING what I needed. More work to be done, for sure. But, I’m feeling pretty good.

My focus word for 2017 is FAITH!

It took my until New Year’s Eve to find the right word, when it just popped into my brain, as often happens.

Faith has been a big part of my 2016 and I see how it plays into my life. So, I’m stepping out on FAITH in all that I do this next year and allowing things to fall into place as they manifested for me in my life.

I have faith that my goals will happen, I have faith that my business will continue to thrive. I have faith that I will see the job through.
