How to Deal With Unsupportive People in Your Business

I’m extremely grateful that I have not had a lot of experience with those close to me being unsupportive. But, certainly, not everyone has joined me or become a customer. And that is okay, that is NOT a lack of support.

Here are some things to remember -

It has nothing to do with you. Their lack of support about your direct sales business is a reflection of some fear within them.

Like seeks like, and now you are making a move, and people fear change. They have known you in a particular role, and now you are shifting to something else.

They can default to fear, not knowing what to do with it, so they can often become critical.

Start with good, open communication.

We can come across as hype, chasing people down to share what we are doing with inflated language and things that don’t sound like “you!”

I’m big on Success Language - http://StreetSmartScripts.com

People will be much more receptive when we share in a way that sounds normal, creates interest and let’s them off of the hook.

Listen to the audio to hear some examples of what to say.

Now, you must detach from the outcome and get your emotions out of it.

Communicate to them that their support can come in the forms of being Verbally and emotionally supportive, and in the vibe they put out.

You want to lower resistance by letting them off of the hook. You are NOT trying to “get them!”

Ask them to try the product, if they are open to it and let them know that if they love it, great, stay as a customer, and if not, great, you will not ask them again.

Ask for product testimonials. Ask them to be open and honest with you.

Practice what you are going to say in front of the mirror so you get better and sound believable and not like everyone else!

People are resistant to change, and people have fears and perceived inadequacies.

They hear of others, like Mark Zuckerberg and 13 year olds who launch apps and make millions over night.

My favorite response to those who badger me, pole fun of me or want to belittle me -

I understand that you think you have an opinion about what I am doing, but until you’ve taken a look at my presentation and tried my products, you can’t really have a conversation with me, but I would love the chance to chat about it and hear your education opinion….

This is not to overcome everyone’s objections or negativity. It;s more to empower you; create some respect and silence the naysayers.

It’s important that we feel good, we feel confident and we know what to say!
