Productivity Hacks for Direct Sales How can I be more productive in my day and in my direct sales business? What things should I be focused on each day? What are the best books for productivity in Direct Sales? I have read dozens and dozens of books, and maybe I can give a summary because as good as ANY book is, each of us kind of have to find our own WAY, of being productive, and our current life situation will dictate that. A few things I have learned that work for me, personally - Start with your WHY - without that, nothing else matters. This is the single biggest step that most people miss. I’m going to include why and vision all together here, because I believe they are closely related and if you have one, you can and should have the other. Have a recipe for a big life. WHAT do you want from your life? This is the start of crafting your vision. And, become a huge part of your why. Create your ideal life in your mind. Write down everything you want. Income, home, where you live, lifestyle, other material things, relationships, giving and contribution, travel experiences. This is the first step in giving yourself the direction you need to go. Do more than just think it, though. Write it down. And then put that away somewhere that you remember and can come back to later. Ideally, make a copy of it and read it several times each day. Revise and add to that list over time, as you and your business grow. This is YOUR vision and YOUR why. There is no right or wrong and don’t get sucked into creating someone else’s vision if it’s not a fit for you. Next, Use a REALISTIC To Do list each day. I do mean realistic. For most people, that list will include 2-3 most important income producing activities each day. Prioritize that list, and get the most important things done first. Pay attention to your own peak times and do the most important things during these times. I am a morning person so I schedule everything that really takes my energy, focus and BEST effort as early as possible. This is challenging because I also like to workout first thing. But, I have conditioned myself to work out in the afternoon when needed, and actually, this gives me more energy later in the day. If you are a night owl, then do your best stuff then. Develop a plan of action and commit to it for at least 90 days. Example - offline networking - don't go once and then quit. Be consistent for 90 days and then evaluate. Facebook parties/events - work like crazy and let go of fear for 90 days. Then evaluate and tweak as needed. Start your blog and be consistent with it. Blogging is NOT dead and google still returns the biggest percentage of traffic and leads to websites and blogs. Do social media in small time breaks when you can't be doing anything else productive. 3 most important things in ANY day for your Direct Sales business - Reach out to XX number of new contacts each day - party or business. Follow up with previous contacts. Reach out to a customer or two each day. I could speak all day on this, but focus on these things and you'll find what works best for you. There are many ways to find success in this business and everyone has obstacles and challenges. But, that's just a test. Where there is a will, there is a way and obstacles and challenges are MEANT to be overcome! In the next show, I will cover a typical day in my own business, encompassing online and offline activities, as well as my morning routine and affirmations for success. Get the book - http://JackieUlmer.com/thatguy Part 3 Show Notes #1 The Haughty on the High Horse - never be demeaning about a J. O. B - this business is not for everyone and it can be very hurtful and turn people off from the beginning and you may never get the chance to share and help them understand our profession. Some people LOVE their job and don’t want out of it. So, never assume that they do. Ask them questions. Determine their why and don’t project your why on them. We aren’t better than anyone because we are in network marketing. We have just chosen another path. Stay humble, despite your income. #2 -MLM Junkie - multiple streams of income are great. Multiple Network Marketing companies is not. Focus. Put your energies into the success of one. Pick the company you want to have problems with because every company is going to have issues. #3 - the Networking Tasmanian Devil - how to work networking groups effectively. Be a giver. Become a leader within the group. Lead with your product and do one on one meetings and get to know each other and build relationships. What a great series. I hope you learned a ton. Hopefully you caught the first part of this interview series about not being labeled as “That Guy” or “That Gal” in Network Marketing? You’re Listening to the Street Smart Wealth Podcast, show 245 and today, I continue my interview with Adam and Michelle Carey, authors of the new book - Don’t be That Guy in Network Marketing. We’ll be covering my favorite chapters and this is part 2. Need some coaching to move you forward? My one on one and inner circle programs are LIVE! Are you looking for coaching to be successful in your Network Marketing business? Want to also learn how to generate your own leads online? My Inner Circle Coaching Program may be just what you need. Don’t be That Guy in Network Marketing Part 2 Adam and Michelle Carey started their network marketing career in 2008, during the financial crisis that swept the nation. Within 2 years, they were full time in the profession and have won many awards. Get the book - http://JackieUlmer.com/thatguy Part 2 Show Notes #1 The Social Media Spammer - when you post all about your opportunity before you make your list and contact people individually, you send out a red flag right up front as why they may not want to take your call. Instead share lifestyle photos, and engaging posts that create curiosity and not raise red flags. Take it off of social media as soon as you can and off of Facebook Messenger. Make a phone call or do a Skype call. Choose your “friends” on Facebook wisely and vet them out based on whether you can be of a mutual benefit if you don’t really know each other. Jackie shares that she is cleaning up her own friend’s list and won’t accept friends who have nothing but business info on their profile. #2 The Long Winded Writer - know when to take it off social media. Set appointments through messenger and then get on the phone, and don’t be a motor mouth though the written word. Michelle shares a great technique for contacting those who you have not connected with for awhile and using the third party approach about expanding her business in their area. #3 - Negative Nancy and Poor Me Paul - we’ve all had them, those who just whine about everything, especially on Social Media. Instead of thinking - “I have to…” think - I get to….” If no one is willingly following you, you may want to look inward and see if you might be putting off some negative energy. #4 - The Stalker - the one who takes the concept of follow up too far. Keep in touch, but make it about more than just the business. Become a friend and remain interested. Thanks for listening to Part 2, join us for part 3! And listen to Part 1 here! Have you ever been labeled as “That Guy” or “That Gal” in Network Marketing? You’re Listening to the Street Smart Wealth Podcast, show 244 and on today’s show, I am thrilled to be bringing you a 3 part series in an interview with Adam and Michelle Carey, authors of the new book - Don’t be That Guy in Network Marketing. We’ll be covering my favorite chapters. Need some coaching to move you forward? My one on one and inner circle programs are LIVE! Are you looking for coaching to be successful in your Network Marketing business? Want to also learn how to generate your own leads online? My Inner Circle Coaching Program may be just what you need. Don’t be That Guy in Network Marketing Adam and Michelle Carey started their network marketing career in 2008, during the financial crisis that swept the nation. Adam was a luxury boat salesman and needless to say, that industry went quiet for awhile. They were introduced to network marketing by Adam’s mom, and while they were not fast starters, they stuck with it, and after 2 years, they had a stable business and were on their way. They’ve learned a lot and now they share some solid ideas with all of us in Direct Sales to help us not fall into those pitfalls that can make the journey more difficult. Get the book - http://JackieUlmer.com/thatguy Part 1 Show Notes Adam and Michelle share their story and background. And, they share the power in having a mentor, and eliminating bills and distractions so they could fully focus on the business. Their backs were against the wall, and they came out with a full court press. Their mentor was someone a little further upline who took them under her wing and taught them how to be successful in Network Marketing. She had a lot of credibility and experience in business. Don’t Be That Guy in Network Marketing - your guide to network marketing etiquette; 21 common mistakes that will label you as “that guy!” Adam and Michelle became student’s of the profession and believe that is a key part of their success. They attended a lot of trainings, driving 3 hours once a month and learned the same stuff each time, over and over. The simple fundamentals of the business. Our whole goal in the Network Marketing profession is to get people to just take a look. That is it. #1 The Sneak Attack MLMer - the people who hide the fact that their company is a network marketing company. They use fancy terms to avoid saying - this is network marketing. “I believe to be successful you must live your life unoffended and unashamed.” #2 The Lack Listener - focus on being interested and not so worried about how interesting you are. Ask good questions, be a good listener and pay attention. “Connecting is the ability to identify with people and relate to them in a way that increases your influence with them.” Know how to get people to like you. #3 - The Motor Mouth - don’t oversell people and don’t confuse the invitation with the network marketing presentation. Don’t give out business cards and information, get to know them, and ask for theirs. Ask questions, and share stories. Use the tools, don’t BE a tool! No matter how good you are at giving a presentation, let the tools do the work. Qualify people very well before you make the call. Let them know you are serious and time is precious. How you are taking people through the system is training them on how they will build the business. Thanks for listening to Part 1, join us for part 2 and 3! I LOVE and appreciate reviews! You’re Listening to the Street Smart Wealth Podcast, show 243 and on today’s show, I want to share 12 Things successful people do differently in Direct Sales. Need some coaching to move you forward? My one on one and inner circle programs are LIVE! Are you looking for coaching to be successful in your Network Marketing business? Want to also learn how to generate your own leads online? My Inner Circle Coaching Program may be just what you need. Or, maybe it's one on one coaching. Learn more about both at StreetSmartWealth.com/coach Check the podcast archives on the blog at JackieUlmer.com for previous episodes if you missed any or are new to the show. 12 Things Successful People Do Differently in Direct Sales These 12 things are certainly true in Direct Sales and Network Marketing and also in life or business of any kind! #1 - Successful people create and pursue S.M.A.R.T. Goals and they write them down. SMART Goals are Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Time Bound. Measurable and Achievable can be sketchy. Sometimes, goals change, and you want to certainly pursue achievable goals. And, realistic can be a stretch in the beginning, but nothing wrong with big goals. #2 - Successful people take decisive and immediate action. Nothing creates momentum and excitement more than immediate (and massive) action. We all know what busy work is in Network Marketing. #3 - Successful people focus on productive action and not just being busy. look back over the last week and rate yourself on how much was busy work, and how much was productive, as in income producing activities? #4 - Successful people make logical, informed decision. Success in business requires decision making regularly. Don’t spend too much time over analyzing these things? #5 - Successful people avoid the trap of trying to make everything look perfect. There is no room for perfection in business. Success is all about getting into action and trying, testing , tweaking and seeing what happens. #6 - Successful people work outside of their comfort zone. I know, you don’t want to hear this, but it is TRUE! The more action you will take to get yourself out of your comfort zone, the easier it will get. #7 - Successful people keep things simple. Network Marketing is simple, but not easy, and really, the only part that isn’t easy is what goes on between our ears. Use tools, don’t try to explain everything and take the necessary action steps. #8 - Successful people focus on small, and continuing improvements. If you will just get into action, you will grow and improve. Each time you talk to someone about your Direct Sales opportunity, you get a little better. #9 - Successful people measure and track their progress. Tracking is so important. At the end of the month, you want to have a tracking sheet so you can see what you actually did to move your business forward. Who did you contact? Who did you follow up with? What did you track? #10 - Successful people maintain a positive outlook as they learn from mistakes. And, really there are no mistakes. It is all about trying and testing and making small improvements on what you learn from those actions. We all have times when we say too much, but that’s how we learn. #11 - Successful people spend time with the right people. On your team, and with prospects is so important. And, attending company conventions is the next area you want to get around the right people with the right mindset you have the experience and knowledge to assist you. #12 - Successful people maintain balance in their life. Now, I have always struggled with the word balance and you may, too. It’s a bit of a myth to think we will always have “balance.” Be committed to spending quality time in the right areas of your life. You know what those are. There must be room for family and relationships, health and wellness, spiritually as well as your business. Make sure there is time for all areas. And, create systems to help your business stay in gear even when you aren’t there pushing it forward. Create a pinch me business with automation! It’s great to create leads and income even when you aren’t there, face to face with others! I LOVE and appreciate reviews! Go to JackieUlmer.com/itunes or JackieUlmer.com/stitcher to leave your review and be entered into a drawing for a free month of coaching.
