Should I use a Facebook Business Page or my Personal Profile for my Direct Sales Business

IT's an ongoing debate, whether to use a business page or your personal profile to conduct business on Facebook. In this training, I'm going to share the pros and cons of both, and how to combine the two for maximum reach!

We've covered this already, but it bears repeating.

When you take your business online (in addition to your offline, in-person networking), you extend your reach from just the people in your warm market – your friends and family, their friends and those you meet while out and about – to the billions of people online.

When you work your warm market, you typically need to reach out to people, when you work online, you can attract people to you.

I developed a true "pinch me" business when I would wake up, and find new leads and contacts from people who contacted me to ask about my business and product line.

And, I have met some of my very best friends this way!

On Facebook there are different types of entities – people (personal profiles), groups (open or closed groups of people) and pages (used by businesses, charities, celebrities, and so on).

So, you have a personal Timeline, why not have a Facebook business timeline, too, right? Here is why a business Facebook timeline is so important. Not to be techie, but Facebook is basically a closed system that is not indexed by Google. Facebook Business Timelines ARE indexed by Google though.  This just basically means that people can find your Facebook business timeline in Google!

You have 3 opportunities to connect with people - your friends, your followers and your business page followers.

When I started on Facebook, business pages did not exist so I learned how to carefully keep my business alive on facebook, and yet in the background so as not to offend those who did not want to know about it.

And, I view it like I do my real estate friends. Each week, many of my friends in real estate post details about their opn houses they are hosting. It's not at all offensive to me and they aren't blatant about WHY it's the best house ever and why I should buy it.

Think about this as you create your own business info that you gently share.

Remember the 80/20 rule and the concept of Facebook being like Cheers, the TV show from the 90s, where everyone gathered in a social pub after work!

There was talk about the wife, the kids, vacation, and jobs. Keep your life colorful, interesting and entertwine all aspects together to showcase who you are - not all business and not all play.

So, why use a Facebook business page? Here are some top reasons for why to use a Facebook Business Page:

  1. It is against Facebook’s Terms of Service to use a personal page for business purposes. They could shut down your account. You can be generic about what you do, and I recommend this, but if you are continually pumping your business info out, you could get slapped! Big Time!
  2. It’s annoying to friends and family to constantly see business ads on your personal page. Most people view this as spam.
  3. When you post business content to your personal profile, people may unfriend you, block your feed, and possibly report your posts as spam.
  4. If enough people report you, you may land in Facebook “jail”. Ouch, this is no fun, and there are a number of companies who have been blocked due to too many people spamming links. IF your company is blocked, and you have references to your company name on your profile, it can also get blocked.
  5. Using both a business page and a personal profile gives you two “voices” to speak to your customers and potential team partners. Two voices are better than one.
  6. A business page is open to attract anyone, not just friends and family and their friends (your warm market).
  7. A personal profile can only have 5000 friends, a facebook page can have millions of fans.
  8. With a business page, you can run targeted ads to build your fanbase and attract people who are interested in your product and opportunity. (The targeting of these ads is really important. More on that later.)
  9. When you build your fan base, your ordinary posts can be seen by hundreds or thousand of people every day.
  10. When you’ve built your fan page, and your audience and post engaging content regularly, people will come to YOU asking about your product and opportunity. People reach out to me every day. Some days, a post will catch people’s hearts and go viral, and I’ll see reach in in the ten thousands and dozens and dozens of people will reach out.

Now creating a fan page, learning to place ads and post engaging content does take a bit to learn. It takes about 10 minutes to create a page, and about an hour once a week to set up and "pre post" a week’s worth of posts.

And just like Network Marketing it may take a few months of sustained effort, a little bit every day, to build momentum. But if you are planning to be in this business in a few months anyway, why not also plan to have people coming to you? There is a time line to success!

I know people who say they don’t want to learn new things, or that they tried an ad one day and it didn’t work for them. There is a trick to it. You have to put some thought into who you want to attract. You need to target your like ads specifically to them and post content to engage them. And you need to talk to them, not in your bullhorn voice, but your talking to your best friend conversational voice AND you need to put your heart into it. That is all.

When you post to your business page, you have the option to share that post from your personal profile and this is one way the two entities can work well together. You are seen as just SHARING content and not originating it.

And, you never know who else will see it and share it, expanding your reach even further!

Don't get discouraged if if takes a little bit of time

Use Hashtags

Be consistent in posting value, including your business link

Like your own page from your personal profile and share some of the business content from time to time, and this is how you get the most bang for your buck.

Should I Buy Business Opportunity Leads for my Direct Sales Business

How do I work with these leads?

It can be tempting to think that your business is going to zoom off the charts when you simply start calling and sponsoring those people who have responded asking for details on a business from home.

Sadly, many are bogus, nothing more than tire kickers and will say they never requested information.

Most are not prepared to take action at the time they request more information. So, understand that it is a long term commitment and time process.

IT's key to know that you must work big numbers and have a system for taking them through the process.

Call, text and then email.

I have someone who opted in on my website, knows that it's me, expressed EXTREME interest in getting out of a job she hates, and yet I can not even get her to take 10 minutes to take a look. So, people have more is a wishing, wanting mentality than a take action mentality.

Steps you want to have in place.

Take to a simple lead capture page - JackieUlmer.com/leadpages

Have an optin in so that you can begin the drip process - JackieUlmer.com/ar

Now you have the chance to build on know, like and trust which is critical to success! Having them in your own database instead of one that may come with your lead program so that should you leave that system, you still own the database and can drip information on them.

Are there good lead sources -  here is one I use

JackieUlmer.com/leadsnow

ACTION STEPS

1. Get your system set up

2. Know how you are going to guide them through learning more.

3. Understand the long term process.

How do you handle it when a team member leaves your business for another? Or companies make changes?Do you keep your cool or do you burn bridges? We are going to cover that topic in today’s show!

I’ve reopened my one on one Direct Sales coaching program , along with my DO It Yourself Inner Circle Coaching and you can learn more over at StreetSmartWealth.com/coach

I would love to help you break through the barriers and have the success you want in Direct Sales.

Why It’s Never a Good Idea to Burn Bridges

It's never a good idea to burn bridges with people and Direct Sales is no different. Sometimes, conflict can be created when people change companies; stop working; or in some way disappoint. Harsh words and actions can come back to bite you later.

Stay calm, cool and collected and wish others the best, because after all, it's important that they find the right fit for themselves. If you keep the door open, they may return!

Here are a few things that can happen to cause a shift:

People Leave.

Leaders Leave and take other with them.

Companies change compensation plans.

When these things happen, tempers flare and it can seem like the right thing to lash out and bad mouth others. Perhaps you and your company are being bad mouthed.

But, as hard as it is, it is important to keep your cool, and use my “24 hour rule” before acting, or reacting to any situation.

Take a step back, think about things and wait to respond to anything until 24 hours has passed. You may be surprised at how differently you feel.

Today’s review shout out goes to my Friend George Fourie, from down under in Australia who writes - Jackie is the ultimate innovator. I subscribe to many business podcasts but couldn’t find anything great that focused on our industry. Until now. About 7 years ago I was searching the internet, as you do, to find more information about the network marketing professoin. All roads lead to Jackie’s websites. Not sure which episode it was where you mentioned that you don’t know SEO Jackie but that ain’t the truth. unless you’re just a natural. Jackie gives away more pure gold in this podcast that you can take straight to the bank. The top notch production keeps you even more engaged. Well done Jackie, keep on sharing the value!

Do you need a blog for your direct sales business and will it really work for your type of business? This is a question that Mike asked me about his Weight Loss Network Marketing business and program. Answers to this on today's show!

I was shocked at the question since weight loss is still one of the most widely researched topics online, and probably always will be as people focus on looking and feeling better....at least for awhile!

Your blog is the hub pf the universe for your business.

Not your company site. And, not your Facebook Page, although both of these have a strong purpose in your overall online strategy.

Think of the awesome content you can create and the before and after photos you can share.

Weight loss keywords are awesome and as I mentioned, highly researched all of the time. People are looking for this information.

And, when you create your own content, you have valuable information to share on Social Media to drive traffic back to your blog and your list!

It establishes you as an authority!

Ever wonder how to build a global business with your Direct Sales Network Marketing company without having to know someone there; travel to that country and spend a month there beating the streets? We cover this in today's show!

Now, don’t forget that I provide complete training audios and worksheets on how to build a successful network marketing business both online and offline in my inner circle coaching program.

How to Build a Global Direct Sales Business

Start with your own warm market list and ask - who do you know? GREAT chance to go back to those who you have previously talked to and see if things have changed, and do so with a 3rd party approach.

Then, think of offline networking groups you belong to. Share that your company is expanding! Drop/Blitz cards, your 30 second commercial and so on!

Other business locally that may be tied - restaurants, bars, chambers of commerce, stores and other businesses.

Think of local Chambers of Commerce and businesses that are geared toward these ethnic and global groups.

Social Media - my favorite way to reach out to a specific number of people each day to create curiosity and build new warm market!

Facebook and Linked in, even Meetup - SEARCH for people and groups in these countries that match what you are looking for!

Don't forget - http://JackieUlmer.com/fbforbiz - my ebook on how to use Facebook effectively to sponsor!

ACTION STEPS

How to invite prospects to take a look at your Direct Sales and Network Marketing business. Master this gateway skill and you will be successful.

We’ve spent the last few shows going through how to launch a business, where I am sharing with you exactly the steps I am taking to grow a business from start to finish.

Check the podcast archives on the blog at JackieUlmer.com for previous episodes if you missed any or are new to the show.

Now, don’t forget that I provide complete training audios and worksheets on this in my inner circle coaching program.

JackieUlmer.com/coach

Inviting is one of the most important gateway skills you must learn and master to be successful in your Direct Sales business.

If you are here and looking for the right Direct Sales company, I would love to talk with you. Go to WorkWithJackie.com and let’s talk.

How to Invite Prospects to Take a Look at Your Business.

Have a plan; know every steps in the process. Don’t wing it and leave it to chance.

If you are prepared, you can easily impart knowledge and interest with the words you share.

Stay out of sales mode. You aren’t selling here, your goal is to get them to take a look.

Have a basic script without sounding scripted.

Write it out, practice it, put into bullet points and become a master at communicating what you do.

Use tools - don’t try to explain it.

Don’t use a tool that goes so far into details that it overwhelms them.

See the invitation by paying attention to cues offline and by what is shared on social media.

Honor what they are currently doing and be respectful if they say know. Don’t burn bridges and don’t offend with comments like -

I’m going to need someone to mow my grass and clean my house, and so on.

Share success stories casually as you talk with people.

When out networking, share exactly what you do to make money - don’t be sketchy. Let them know.

Develop your own success story to share, and model in any way that you can how it works.

Send thank you cards for those who look and even those who say know. Stay top of mind!

ACTION STEPS

Plan for Success; know your process.

Write out your scripts and practice.

Know the tools you will use.

Learn how to seed your invitation; don’t just pounce, learn to casually share stories that relate to what they are sharing.

Ask for referrals.

Keep in touch.

Mark Yarnell Tribute

Mark Yarnell, Network Marketing professional and legend passed away March 4, leaving a huge legacy and deep void in network marketing. Here is my interview of him from last year, full of fun and nuggets of wisdom as only Mark Yarnell can deliver.

What other's are saying -

Stacy Todd Clark, on Facebook - Mark was one of the most generous people I knew. He taught to me to never judge a person asking for money. He would say if they are a "fake" that was between them and their maker. That I should give what my heart felt and to never second guess it.

One day we were walking in downtown Reno and a man who was definitely tipsy asked Mark for money, he reached in his pocket and gave the man a $20 bill. I was surprised and said Mark he is just going to spend it on booze. Mark smiled that beautiful smile of his and said even a drunk deserves a Chivas Regal now and then.

Mark Walmsley, on Facebook - Mark Yarnell, the author of "Your First Year In Network Marketing" passed yesterday. He was a true legend of the industry and his book is an absolute must read for everyone in this amazing profession. I appreciate his phone call when he had read my book, his words of support and encouragement meant a lot to me. Thoughts and Prayers to his family and friends.

And, there are hundreds of others. Listen in to hear some of Mark's great insights into our profession of Network Marketing.

Thank you, Mark, for the gifts you gave to all of us. You will be greatly missed.

Do you suffer from Super Hero Syndrome in Your Network Marketing Direct Sales Business? Feeling like you have to do it all - motivate, lead, be responsible for the success and failure of others? You might be suffering from Super Hero Syndrome, especially if you like the way you look in tights! More on today's show!

Now, don’t forget that I provide complete training audios and worksheets on thow to build a successful network marketing business both online and offline in my inner circle coaching program.

JackieUlmer.com/coach

How to Avoid Syper Hero Syndrome in Network Marketing

Do you like the way you look in tights? Now, that sounds like a joke, and it kind of is, but I want you to think about Super Man, Super Woman, Super Hero syndrome and think about whether you might be suffering from it.

This typically happens once you have a team growing and you have some momentum going!

Do you think you can save the world in Network Marketing?

Do you try to do it all?

Do you feel responsible for the success of everyone on your team? And, do you take on the responsibility of their failures?

Let people know in that very first phone call you have with them once they have joined that THEY are the ones responsible for their own success or failure.

Congratulate them on making a decision and joining the team, and you will be there to be their best cheerleader, but success or failure is based solely on their actions in their own business.

Be clear right up front.

You can't motivate another to work the business, you can only inspire.

You can, however, sell people into joining. That's called a "paid no!" But "joining" is not the same as building.

I made some big mistakes in my early network marketing career by running meetings and thinking I was the only one who could do a presentation "the right way!" We created a team where others thought they were not capable of doing the business themselves.

Spend time where it is earned...where it is deserved...with the ones who are actually building a business. Doing the daily action steps.

Remember, it's okay to set boundaries around your business and your time. Don't fear that others will quit if you are not there at their beck and call. True builders are doing this for themselves and by themselves. Your role really doesn't have a lot to do with anything!

ACTION STEPS

Determine if there are places in your business where you have adopted super hero syndrome? Taking on too much responsibility and feeling like you need to motivate?

Are you spending time with those who earn it?

Build a business that reflects YOUR values and creates a lifestyle you love.

Your Listening to the Street Smart Wealth Podcast, show 141

Should I buy from and support other Direct Sales and Network Marketing business owners? This is a great question and we will cover all aspects of it on today's show.

Should I buy from and support other Direct Sales and Network Marketing business owners?

Loyal customers are an important part of a solid Network Marketing business for long term stability, and distributors from other companies could become some of your best customers and ambassadors. In fact, solid customers who are not part of the compensation plan can be much stronger for your business than mediocre distributors who are only in it for the money, and once they quit, they stop using the products or services offered.

There are some things to keep in mind though....

It's a good idea to look for reciprocal agreements - I'll use your products, and you use my products. This is a win win. And, don't be afraid to shop around until you find someone who will also support you.

Be careful and think it through before you sign up as a distributor, though. In some cases, you can get the biggest discount if you are a rep for the company, but I am leery to put my name anywhere into a geneaology report or downline matrix.

Don't buy for the wrong reasons, and this would include just because they will buy from you. If the products and services are not something you will use, or that match your values, I would avoid it!

Make sure the product is value oriented, price wise, and not ridiculously over priced.

Be up front if there is something in the product that doesn't work for you, such as an allergic reaction. I have had this problem in the past with some skin care companies.

Share a testimonial if you love the product. Set boundaries around this so your name is not wrongly associated, however.

Be a "Go-Giver" and you'll likely find you get testimonials back!

Also, think of other small businesses in your local area that you can support in a similar way, who may also support your business. Become a strong ambassador of small business!

Provide samples whenever you can, so potential customers can consider buying from you.
