Network Marketing Question

 

 

Most network marketers think they are working their business when 90% of what they are doing is never going to produce income. So, what are those income producing activities that are important to engage in?

 

 

 

ANSWER

 

 

Here are some thoughts

 

  • 25% of your time making new contacts. 
  • 25% of your time following up with previous contacts
  • 25% of your time on team activities - 3 way calls, and support, training
  • 25% of your time on the administration that goes with each - postcard mailings, emails to follow up, meetings and promoting to your team

 

 

It’s a numbers game, but people are not numbers. You can go fast or slow in Network Marketing - fast just means working through the numbers more quickly.

 

Find 3, 15 minute pockets of time each day and make calls. Don’t worry about the outcome of any one call - just do the task and do it with an expectation of success.

 

This is something easily duplicated among the team!

Network Marketing Question

 

 

How do I get over feeling rejected and truly detach from the outcome of whether or not someone is interested in my Network Marketing business?

 

 

ANSWER

 

This training was prompted by someone I experienced recently when I decided to give the Paleo diet and lifestyle a try for a bit. I was sharing my plan, and more specifically my personal reasons with some friends. It struck me as interesting that several of them got VERY defensive about my decision. They became very vehement that cutting out grains was crazy and on and one.

 

It made me ponder why; why was my decision, which I was not trying to pawn off on them, was raising so much angst within them?

 

And, it made me think about Network Marketing and how we do the same thing so often when someone thinks about it differently than we do.

 

 

Here are some thoughts

 

  • Treat another’s interest or lack of just like anything else they don’t share a common interest with you in.
  • Be as nonchalant as you would if you were recommending a movie
  • Give people space and don’t take it personally
  • Their decision should have nothing to do with yours

 

 

And, always follow up. People’s lives change on a regular basis! My story shows how fast this can happen and one can go from totally not interested to “couldn’t be more interested!”

Do I need a coach for my network marketing business?

ANSWER

 

Coaches and mentors in any business can be a real asset and network marketing is no different. Some questions for you - is your business a serious business or more of a hobby? Do you have big goals? How much do you value your time and how much time do you want to spend on the learning curve?

 

  • Start with your weekly calendar
  • Don’t confuse hiring a coach with someone doing it for you - when I hear - I need someone to motivate me, I know we are headed down the wrong path
  • Commitment and consistency
  • How to self coach
  • What’s your biggest goal? To make a huge income? To have an impact on others?
  • It’s the same as the gym or weight loss
  • IS there a drive inside you?
  • Surround yourself with a community of like minded people

 

 

Community is one reason I created my inner circle coaching program. I wanted a place where people could ask questions and support each other along with my support.

 

One on one coaching was not being as effective with my own time, and I wanted a way to reach more people.

 

I wanted a place where people could ask -

 

How do you handle this objection?

 

How do I contact someone more successful than me?

Network Marketing Question

 

 

I’m not making any money and I want to take my party plan business online?

 

Thanks to Indira, for emailing me that question. 

 

 

ANSWER

 

I believe that any business can be built online, and there are some things to keep in mind when it comes to party plan -

 

  • Monthly personal sales volume and quotas
  • Look at your product and determine your target audience
  • Where will your best customers be online?
  • Google Hangouts to host virtual parties - don’t try to recreate your offline party - too long
  • Welcome, share short story, introduce catalog and featured products, 
  • Know your objectives - sell product and create customers, create interest and sponsor others, get more party bookings
  • Find virtual hostesses 
  • Coach your hostesses properly, just like offline
  • Keep consistent and grow it over time

 

People are busy today and yet they want good products and they want free products. A solid 30 minute event can create great sales and team member sign ups!

 

Selling points for your hostesses - no cleaning the house, providing snacks, getting the family out of the house or any of that! Just a fun time, online and people love the technology and the ease of it!

Today, I am joined by Todd McBroom who is an author, speaker and sales training specialist. Todd  is the perfect choice for any size business, group or organization. Having come up in an “economically challenged” family he learned at an early age about working for what you want.

We're chatting about his new book - God Was Self Employed!

 

Todd says he is a Louisiana, “Redneck” - "I have a high school diploma and an 8th grade education."

 

Started his first business right out of high school after watching his dad start a business. He didn’t want to go to college, so started in construction.

 

Married at 21 and a friend called and said - I think I’ve found a way for us to make some money.

 

He had already made 6 figures at 18, bought his first Rolex at 19, and was broke by 21 when construction bottomed out.

 

Todd says - "My mind was shifted and I began to learn about residual income."

 

Tell us about your mind shifts.

 

Met a mentor who went from broke to a multi millionaire.

 

He realized years later that he learned the secret of success from this man.

 

He had a 3 x 5 card and on it he wrote - I want to make a million dollars. Every day he would read it in the morning, read it at lunch, and again at night. He used it to reinforce the actions that he took each day.

 

He wanted to fish every day.

 

Think and Grow Rich didn’t click with him until his late 30s, and he got what his mentor was teaching him.

 

What do you want? Why do you want it? What are you willing to give up in order to achieve it?

 

 

About that quote - How can we do a better job at this part of it with a new team member?

 

 

Remove your own agenda when you sit down with someone. Show someone that you really do care. Servitude - you put your own goals, wants, dreams, ambitions secondary to theirs.

 

 

Do you see the principles that it take to be successful in Network Marketing any different than what it takes to be successful in any business venture?

 

 

Why do you think so few succeed?

 

It’s not that so few people are successful in network marketing, it’s why are so few people successful? Whether it’s any kind of business, it’s all the same.

 

The problem is the vision you have of it.

 

 

What prompted the book?

 

God put it into his head years ago.

 

Imitate, don’t impersonate - Todd shares details.

 

Ambition is an interesting word, and you write about it in Chapter 4 - many people would tell you they are ambitious, but then day after day goes by with little to no action in building the business they say they want. Why is that?

 

If you have to keep telling people you are ambitious, you must not be. Where does ambition come from? You have to get tired of where you are and not want to be there any more.

 

The more ambitious someone is, the more they are willing to give up to get what they want.

 

When people begin a business they invariably run into challenges. Any suggestions for what people can do to move past quitting when they reach that point where they are ready to? Can we prepare them for that ahead of time, when they are excited?

 

Talk to us about the importance of learning good communication skills.

 

Rockefeller Quote - "I don't want a nation of thinkers, I want a nation of workers." We are in a "jobless recovery" so are we moving further into the age of entrepreneurism and away from the job mentality that has gripped us for over a century?

Work on growing PEOPLE and not just your business.

Serve people so much that they would die before they would quit on you.

Final thoughts - Todd's goal is to inspire people to want to think! There is a difference.

Effective follow up for your Network Marketing business?

 

  • Get Organized
  • Develop a system - mine is part automated and part manual

  • Use company updates, product launches, contests and more to reach out
  • Use the third party approach and ask for referrals for your Network Marketing business!
  • Over time, people will become interested because psychologically, they know that if you are sticking with it, something must be working.

The bottom line is this - if you believe in what you are doing, what you offer, and the potential, why would you not want to share and re-share with others? People’s lives go through some sort of change every 6 months to a year. If you don’t stay in touch, how will you ever catch them when the time is right? They might just go to someone else - ME!!!

  • Have a plan and a strategy
  • Understand the different platforms - Simple Social Media e-book http://jackieulmer.com/simplesocialmedia/
  • Figure out which ones work for your Network Marketing business and your strategy
  • Choose 2-3 to start, master those, and maybe NEVER move on
  • Track your daily actions - where are you spending your time?
  • Set a kitchen timer
  • 30 minutes a day MAX per platform
  • Look at your content sharing strategy - is it attractive to your prospect
  • Watch what other thought leaders do and emulate

 

 

Social Media is an amazing tool, when it’s used right. Understand passive marketing vs. active prospecting and do those income producing activities first.

 

Never forget that it is SOCIAL first - engage your community. Give FIRST and see what comes back.

How do I find motivated people to join my downline?

ANSWER

 

Where are all of the motivated people in Network Marketing?

 

  • First, be motivated yourself.
  • Set your intentions and act on them
  • Share your results, good and bad
  • Write your vision for yourself and the team
  • Share that vision
  • Ask better questions when prospecting
  • Ask better questions BEFORE signing someone up
  • Find out their why
  • Attend events and promote events - that’s how you get your team there and then let the momentum of the event do the work for you!

 

 

Motivation comes from inside. You can’t motivate another person in Network Marketing, in health and fitness or in anything.

 

You can inspire others through your vision, your belief and your actions.

 

Try some of the ideas I mentioned and see what happens. Ultimately, they have to really want it for themselves. To have that strong, compelling why.

 

You can’t lead a horse to water, but you can salt their oats and make them thirsty!

There are a couple of ways to look at this

 

  • Confidence
  • Success and income
  • Be authentic
  • Build trust
  • Share success stories while building yours
  • 30 day success story
  • BELIEF is different and important
  • Surround yourself with those you aspire to be like
  • Attend events
  • Listen, learn and take action

 

 

We all know when we are faking something and it shines through. People sense it. It’s a lie and most of us can tell when we are being lied to.  And, think about how you would feel.

 

I recently listened to an interview by someone having amazing success in a new business. This person had always talked on Social Media like he was already uber successful but when I listened to his interview, it cast doubt for me and made me realize that I no longer fully trusted him.

 

The same can be true when someone leaves a company, moves on, and then talks about how little money they were making. Oh really? That’s not the story you were telling before.

 

Just get in the game, create a success story and you never have to worry about fake it til you make it!

In show 73, I interviewed Home Business Advertiser Owner Bob Schwartz and we talked about effective follow up and a system I have used since 2005 - Postcard Marketing. Direct Mail marketing.

 

In today’s show, I will briefly cover how it works, why it works, and how you can learn more if you want to join the ranks of the ultra successful network marketers.

 

What is Postcard Marketing and why direct mail can explode your business!

 

 

 

ANSWER

 

 In 2005, I started mailing out 100 postcards a month to previous leads who had looked at my Network Marketing business, but had not gotten started for a number of reasons. Although I called and followed up by email, I found that keeping in touch with them through Direct Mail made a huge difference. Pretty soon, I was sponsoring 3-8 people from each postcard mailing that I did. This was in addition to my other sign ups! And, the system duplicates perfectly!

 

How it works:

 

  • Follow up stats
  • Postcards get 100% open rate
  • Emails get deleted
  • Phone calls go unanswered and aren’t returned
  • Cold leads - opportunity seekers - allows them to spy on you!

 

 

Why it works

 

  • Repetition of seeing your business
  • Psychology of mail - something is working
  • Proof of follow up stats
  • Simple system to duplicate with others

 

 

Some objections people have are spending money and buying leads. You don’t have to buy leads, but I share a source in the show notes where you can buy leads.

 

IS what you are doing now working? I’m sharing something proven so what do you have to lose?

NETWORK MARKETING QUESTION OF THE DAY

 

How do I get more sales and sign up more people? I can’t seems to get them to sign on the dotted line.

 

 

 

ANSWER

 

The answer lies in the 3 Magic Questions.

 

You first need to tap into their “money story” and everyone has one. Some good, some bad.

 

There are 3 questions you can always ask that will get to the heart of where your prospect IS and what, if anything you can do to create value and move them forward.

 

Focus on what you need to be doing each day and that is making new contacts. From that, focus on how you can ask engaging questions that might make a difference and show WIIFM.

 

An objection that often comes up - I don’t have the money. But, is this REALLY the objection? Or, I don’t have the time…I don’t know enough people….and so on. But, are these REALLY the objections

 

When you ask the RIGHT questions, you create powerful communication that will make a difference.

 

 

Here are the 3 Magic Questions

 

1. What’s not working? What’s your biggest challenge?

 

Listen authentically with no Agenda and ask - what else? Listen until your prospect is done.

 

 

2. What do you want instead? 

 

Start with question 1 because people are great at telling you the answer to that one, They can go on for days.  But question two cause reflection….to think….to get to goals, dreams and ultimately exposes - THE GAP and contrast between where they are and where they want to be.

 

3. If I could show you how to get >>>>> would you be open to hearing more about what I offer?

 

 

You MUST say with confidence and posture!

 

 

Bonus question - how committed would you say you are to solving your XYZ challenge, if you found the right solution?

 

 

Paint a Vision

 

Listen authentically

 

Don’t try to sell

 

The most important thing is to open that gap from what they want, or don’t want, to where they really want to be, and that it all be their idea.

Each person is going to work their business at his or her own pace. you can’t motivate another. Not in Network Marketing, not in weight loss and fitness and not in anything. You can only inspire.

 

Make sure at the end of the day, YOU are being the kind of leader you want to have, and would like to have on your team.

ANSWER

 

  • The internet is just an extension of what we do offline
  • It’s no different than meeting new people offline
  • How would you make a connection with a new person offline
  • Get out of “pitching” mode from the start
  • Hang out where cool people are - groups and forums
  • Begin to connect and comment
  • Retweet
  • Check out their profile
  • Comment on something personal
  • Send a private message and invite friend request
  • Be careful and stay out of Facebook jail
  • Wait for the right timing
  • Use a third party approach - I’m expanding a business, If I, would you…
  • NEVER blast a link before getting permission
  • Why you don’t want to post opportunity calls and such on your on wall

 

Remember there is always a live human on the other end of every interaction.

 

Treat people like you would offline.

 

Think how you would perceive your own marketing.

 

Get out of the Network Marketing groups and forums and get into other waters.

One of my biggest pet peeves about network marketing, or rather network marketers are those people who try to make it all sound like such a piece of cake. Like you sign up two people and sit back and get rich. Today. let’s talk about what it really takes.

I am trying so hard to make my business a success. I work full time, I have a new born and another child and am trying to make this work. how much work does it take, really?

 

My sponsor made it sound like it was going to be a walk in the park.

 

 

 

ANSWER

 

  • Let me start with the stories of others.

 

There are boundless stories of doctors, lawyers, pharmacists and others who were working 80 hours and managed to get focused, get in action and get themselves out of that position within 5 years. Those 5 years are going to go by, regardless.

 

 

How much work does it really take? It depends on your past and your mindset.

 

 

Let’s start with your past and your center of influence. How do others perceive you? Have you been there, kept your word, been kind, helpful, good friend and such? Then your center of influence with others will be stronger.

 

 

Again, how much work does it really take? A LOT! A whole whole lot. and success in anything does.

 

You’ll want to quit a thousand times and it probably will take 100 times more work than you think.

 

So, you have to tell yourself that right now - it’s going to take work, and you have to understand that.

 

You have a choice - choose the pain of putting massive work into something or choose the pain of going into the tunnel, and working hard to reap the rewards that this business can provide you.

 

 

When people ask how hard it’s going to be, I usually know that they are unprepared for the realities of succeeding in anything of their own, and are kind of looking for the easy road.

 

There really isn’t one. I don’t care what you want to do - there is no easy way.

 

 

The beauty of network marketing is that you can quit any time you want; the bad side is that you can quit whenever you want.

 

In the beginning, you have to give up some family time. And that hurts. I know, I’ve been there. I’ve had family mad at me. But today, thanks to that, I can make any day and any time - family time. I can drop everything to be with my mom when she needs me.

 

I can go to all of my daughters’ college family events and fun events. Get agreement with your family and run for a season.

 

Define what that season is and be up front with everyone. Give yourself a reasonable time table - not 6 weeks, but more like a year or two.

 

Then, get busy and make no excuses. Poor yourself fully into it.

 

 

Habits create results. Being IN a business is not the same as WORKING a business.

 

Focus in your efforts and your habits. Your results will show up.

 

Stop wishing, hoping and start doing!

A few weeks back, on show 55, we covered the question - how do you work Networking Events effectively. We talked about leading with product or opportunity.

 

Today, we are going to take it a little further and talk about other ways that you can recruit and be effective at Networking events.

 

Network Marketing Question

 

How do I make the most of a networking event. I attend, meet a few people and then what do I do from there?

 

ANSWER

 

  • Be prepared
  • Smile and be friendly and outgoing
  • Dress like a pro
  • Know your Elevator Pitch
  • Don’t carry business cards
  • COLLECT business cards
  • Know what to say when they ask - What do you do?

 

 

 

Most people who attend these events are small business owners, they are motivated, often commission based and looking for more, typically. They understand investing in a business, hustling and so on. That is what these can be a great event.

 

Understand what YOUR goal is - it is NOT to sell your products or opportunity at the event. Your goal is simple to connect and make an impression. You can do this BEST by being a good listener.

 

The less you say about what you do and the more you let them tell you about what they do, the better.

 

Your goal is to collect business cards because you WILL follow up. Most people never do.

 

 

How to handle the question - what is it you do? Most people are barely listening anyway, so what you say is not so important. Resist the urge to pitch. Build a connection without raising resistance. Most people try to get catchy - I help people make money from home. What will you say if they ask - HOW?

 

I’m a teacher but I am working on starting a side business project. End it there and ask them something else about what they do.

 

 

Your real strength is when you follow up with them over the next few days.

 

 

So, what do you say when you call to follow up? Use the third party approach and set a time to get together. Don’t go into it right there on the phone.

What should you do when your sponsor quits the business, and starts calling you and even some on your team about another business?

 

ANSWER

 

Your business, your choice.

 

How does their decision affect you? Should it?

 

What to tell your team?

 

Ask questions - what does this mean to you? How do you feel about it? Do you need this person to be successful?

 

Does this decision affect your belief? Your ability to be successful?

 

 

You have to be solid in your own decisions and what you are doing? Just like we speak of about not letting someone who doesn’t have what we want determine our choices…this is no different.

 

We all make decisions that we feel are best for ourselves, our families and what another does hold not affect you at all.

 

Keep your focus and always ask - what difference does this make in my business?

Okay, so about the mindset piece of things…

 

 

You may be a little like me, depending on where you are in your business. I struggled for the first 3-4 years of my business, thinking that the key to success was going to be found in “the perfect script, sizzle line, opening statement, company video and so on…”

 

 

It wasn’t until I realized that my lack of belief in my own ability to be successful, or rather my doubts around it, were what was holding me back and stunting my success.

 

 

So, how important is mindset? You hear all of the time that you need to be working on personal development each day - 10-20 minutes. What are you reading, listening to and so on? Right.

 

And let me ask you - how much time ARE you spending on this?

 

Here is a clue - if your immediate thought is, I don’t need this - you DO.

 

Everyone is looking for the perfect script, and tactics and all of that.

 

But here is the real catch - without the right mindset, you simply will not keep going. You will not get past the bad calls, and the bad times and the bad days. And, those are gonna come.

 

Why does the person who hears no twice in a day quit? Lack of mindset. It has to be because you can look around

 

 

Look at your results instead of what you THINK you know? How much are you making again?

 

If it’s not where you want it to be, it’s STILL mindset.

 

Even for the 6 figure earner who wants to go to 7.

 

 

Let’s talk about some simple steps that you can take to strengthen your mindset and move yourself forward.

 

 

First, decide what you want - SERIOUSLY - decide! Don’t just wish, dream and hope. Make a decision. Your actions on a daily and weekly basis show whether or not you have decided.

 

Indecision is extremely costly. It will rob you of years, if you aren’t careful. On the one hand, you want THIS, and on the other hand, you aren’t willing to do THAT to make it happen.

 

You are on one side of the river, and your goal is on the other. You just cross the river to get there. So, how are you going to cross the river? What are your choices?

 

 

Second, work daily on building your belief muscle. Start by looking at limiting beliefs from your past -

 

Money

Weight

MLM

 

and so on. What comes to mind when you think of each of these? Are there negative beliefs there? How can you change that story?

 

Money is…..

MLM is…..

Success is….

What others say about me is…..

 

See if there is any negative and just replace that with positive.

 

 

Third, write your vision. Get into your imagination for this.

 

Write out your perfect day -

 

Where, who, what, fun, business, people, money, travel and so on.

 

Read it DAILY!

 

 

Fourth, affirm it. Along with reading your vision, speak it into existence. Record it in your own voice. Do it on your smartphone or computer and save the mp3 to replay for yourself, over and over and over again. This is POWERFUL.

 

Speak affirmations looking into your eyes in the mirror each day. Smile when you do it. Pay attention to thoughts and feelings.

 

Write out some powerful - I AM statements.

 

 

Fifth - determine your daily and weekly business action plan to take you where you want to go. What do you NEED to be doing? You know what that is, so are you doing it?

 

If you are not, why not? What that tells me in the beginning is that your stated GOAL, or what you’ve decided you WANT is not something you are committed to. Not really.

 

 

Your calendar will always show your level of commitment to achieving what you say you want.

 

 

Sixth, track it all. Get a notebook or daytimer and just take simple notes each day on what you do. # of calls, follow ups and business building activities. Each week, write your goals and intentions for the week ahead, and at the end of the week, review it.

 

How are you doing? Be honest with yourself. What can you change or improve on, or do you need to?

 

 

Finally, be grateful and acknowledge yourself. Be a tough nut, and also a good cheerleader for yourself. Keep a gratitude journal. 

 

Stop saying or thinking - I’ll be happy when….

 

Look around each day and find 10 things to be grateful for. They don’t have to be big WOW things.

 

If the only prayer you ever say in your whole life is Thank You, that would suffice. Meister Eckhart

 

 

ACTION ITEMS!!!

 

 

Take each of the 6 steps seriously and incorporate them into your life.

 

Start a gratitude journal.

 

Record your affirmations and I AM statement

Network Marketing Question

How do I approach people about my business?

 

ANSWER

 

The invitation is critical.

 

You’ll have to find what fits for you, but here are the key things that matter.

 

First, your own belief, enthusiasm and posture. I can not stress this enough. 

 

Be prepared so you present yourself as confident.

 

Detach from the outcome. I also can’t stress this enough.

 

If you follow this format, you’ll be fine with all of it -

 

Compliment

Disarm and give an out

Give time frame and system approach

Ask a question that must be answered

Pay attention to the word choices

 

 

Hey Sue, it’s Jackie calling. Listen, I really value your opinion as a business professional. I know you are really busy and this is probably not for you. I am expanding my business in Houston and I know you know a lot of people. I am wondering if you might take 5 minutes to watch an online video and let me know a few key people you think I should talk to in the Houston area? Would you be open to taking a look sometime this week?

So, go through this and see what fits for you and your business? How can you get the information in front of the in a short, concise way to just make a decision whether or not to go further?

 

 

Remember, that there is a psychology behind your word choices and how they land on the ears of your prospect. OPEN is key - who wants to be closed? 5 minutes is also key meaning it’s not going to take all day.

 

Play around a little and develop a script, or way of saying things that work for you!

ANSWER

 

There are two types of sales in our profession, that of network marketing and direct sales -

 

Team member sign ups

Customers of the product.

 

Either way, it comes down to creating value in the mind of the buyer.

 

 

And, online, it starts with creating trust and like ability.

 

Think of your own buying habits? What gets you to click? What needs to be in place for you?

 

Emulate those same things in the process you take others through.

 

Is the site simple? Is the buying process simple? Is it secure? Guarantees? Is it all clearly stated?

 

Let’s talk about building that trust.

Follow up is critical. 80% of sales happen on or after 5th contact!

 

 

In the end, again, it’s the perceived value in the mind of your prospective buyer.  Evaluate your actions and see how you are establishing that value. See it from your prospects eyes.
