You’re Listening to the Street Smart Wealth Podcast, show 242 and on today’s show, I’m going to talk about a question a lot of people have asked me and that is - what do I do when I don’t like or use a product offered by my direct sales company? Do I have to use it?

What If I Don’t Like All of My Direct Sales Company Products

We’ve all heard it right, USE your products. Be a product of the product! Replace everything in your home with your own Network Marketing product line.

But what happens if you don’t like a certain product? Or use that type of product?

First, try everything at least once, but then be fair to yourself. We won’t always like or need and use every single product offered by our company.

And, that’s okay.

Know how to develop your product story.

http://jackieulmer.com/059/

And, when you come across a product that your direct sales company offers that is not a fit for you, just share very authentically why it doesn’t work, and then ask question of your prospect about what they might be looking for!

In many ways, it can make you more real and down to earth to your prospects when you are “open” to the fact that not every product will always be a fit for everyone.

That makes you less in sales mode!

So, if you get that question -  What If I Don’t Like All of My Direct Sales Company Products - be ready to answer it authentically and support each person in their own journey.

You’re Listening to the Street Smart Wealth Podcast, show 241, and today, we are going to talk once again about fear, and doubt and how this affects everything we do in our Direct Sales Business. And, let’s talk about your “B” roll.

Fear, Direct Sales and Your B Roll

We all have fears when it comes to Network Marketing and the business we have started.

Will we be successful? Will we flop big time? Will others buy your products or join you in your Direct Sales business? And, the big one - what will others think or say when they learn what you are doing?

Do we ever truly get over fear? Even as a top income earner, do fears still creep in?

Yes, they DO still creep in.

Sometimes, we just lose our way.

One of my struggles a few years back was letting the negativity of others around building using the internet make me question whether it would work.

How crazy is that? I became the top income earner and top team builder/leader in a previous company through the internet.

My team held 19 of the top 20 spots on Google for our primary key word.

So, I let doubt and fear derail me and I took a step back from my internet marketing for almost a year. I was still out there online, but I did a whole lot of offline stuff and at the end of the year, when I re-evaluated, my online efforts produced far more than offline.

That is NOT to suggest offline doesn’t work or was not worth it. Just an interesting study.

Another fear I ran into was when I changed companies and joined a makeup company.

What was I thinking? Why would a 50 year old woman be out there posting selfies; doing makeup tutorials and so on? Who did I think I was?

And, yet, 50 Is the new 30, or at least 35, ha! And, it’s not a point where we want to stop looking our best, feeling our best or playing with makeup!

So, I started pondering how fabulous I would have been had I found that company in my 30s. I would be bold, on camera and so on.

But, here is the reality - in my 30s, I was still self conscious and had doubts and fears. It’s easy to look back and think we would be a certain way, but would we?

So, what are some of your fears? And what is the root of those fears? How are these fears serving you?

You’re Listening to the Street Smart Wealth Podcast, show 240, and today, I want to share what I was taught long ago by one of my earliest mentors in online marketing, for how to lay out your plan and strategy, starting with your most wanted response for your Direct Sales Business.

Need some coaching to move you forward? My one on one and inner circle programs are LIVE! Are you looking for coaching to be successful in your Network Marketing business? Your Online Marketing Plan - Begin With the End in Mind

The Internet is a very efficient, effective way of locating high quality people all over the world, and even within 20 minutes of your home.

Now, think about what it is that you want to accomplish through your web presence, and then work it backwards.

Ken Evoy, a highly successful Internet Business Coach, taught me to always think of what my “Most Wanted Response” is in any situation.

I have determined my Most Wanted Response and I work it backward from there, and here is my thought process on this for the Internet -

Ultimately, I want to sponsor team partners into my Network Marketing business.

To do this, I must introduce my business to them.

For this to happen, they have to have a relationship with me and be open to looking. I have to have presented my opportunity, sold myself and my partnership and answered their questions.

To get to that point, we need to have dialogue. I initiate this through my Auto-responders, designed to give them something of value and develop that "know me, like me, trust me" syndrome, which is so important on the Internet.

But, before that, how did we even connect to begin having a dialogue? In most cases, they find me.

They come through my own online marketing funnels; advertising programs; or my own efforts of marketing (warm market, vehicle web decal, business card, etc.)

Before I begin working with these prospects who come in, my system needs to be in place.

So, in essence, the system consists of –

My personal website/blog, or "hub of the universe!" This is where all of my marketing funnels send them to find out more about me and my business information.

Lead Capture/Auto-responders – for list building; capturing their name; email address and in some cases, phone, address and other information. From there, I can continue the relationship with them. Your auto-responder/list building will likely consist of two separate campaigns - one for providing generic content and establishing yourself as an "expert" (newsletter) and one with "business content"; for once they become interested in your business and opt-in to that list. (More on this later!)

Marketing funnels – how they find me.

So, in checklist order, here is what I do -

Get my web site/blog in order, with thorough details on me and what I am offering them, along with web site links to find out more about my business and the company.

My website/blog needs to contain plenty of content and value for my visitor and not be just a sales pitch. How many times have you landed on site after site and it's nothing but someone trying to sell you something. Turn off, huh? You want to be different.

Work it right and the time will come when the visitor asks you about your business and that is just what you want.

Lead Capture Auto-responder forms need to be placed on the site, so I can capture their name and email to know they were there and to follow up. This also allows me to deliver immediate information to them, even if it’s 2:00am. (More on this later.)

Get my Auto-responder campaigns done (they are never REALLY done, but get them to a point that you can promote. The "tweaking" is ongoing!) These campaigns are what explain my business and partnership. This also includes creating a “free giveaway” or report to entice them for their name/email.

Get any marketing funnels that I am using ready. This gets people looking at my business RIGHT NOW!

Develop other methods of marketing - web decal, advertising, offline methods, etc.

Follow up, follow up, and follow up – first by phone, if possible; next through a personal email; finally through your Auto-responder pipeline, which continues to drip information over time.

Continuing education - every day, find some way to educate myself on personal development, business education, Internet education, etc.

Unfortunately, many people get bogged down in the process of setting up a viable Internet system, quitting before they get to the best part.

The best part about setting up an Online Marketing System is that once it is done, for the most part, it is done!

While it can seem a little technical in the beginning, as I always assure people, I am not a technical person, I am a marketing person! Be willing to commit to the challenge of getting it done and you'll be so glad you did.

So, get the technical part of setting things up out of the way first, and then focus 100% of your efforts on marketing your system. And, invest in ongoing education about new internet techniques. The Internet is still brand new in so many respects so new things are always popping up. Be aware and be the cutting edge.

Facebook and Your Business Page for Direct Sales

We’re in business, right, so why not have a Facebook business page, too, right? Here is why a business Facebook page is so important. Not to be techie, but Facebook is basically a closed system that is not indexed by Google. Facebook Business pages ARE indexed by Google, though. This just basically means that people can find your Facebook business timeline in Google!

It’s publicly searchable and you get “google juice” based on the content you have created. An active page on Facebook will translate to rankings on Google.

Someone doing some specific keyword searching on Google could land on your page. This is especially true with events!

You have 3 opportunities to connect with people - your friends, your followers and your business page followers.

Here are some things we know about the Business Arena for Facebook:

It’s a Pay to Play environment.

It takes WORK to grow a successful Facebook page. And, I mean WORK. Every day. I’m going to be honest here - that is why I put SO much more time and energy into my blog and building my list. I own it and I control what happens with it.

Every time I send an email to my list, I know that I have the CHANCE that everyone on that list will open it. Not everyone will, that’s the reality. But, at least they can.

With Facebook, they make it very clear that they will NOT be showing my content to everyone unless I pay for it, and even then, I am competing with all of their friends, and other content.

Here is what happens when you make a status update on your business page. Facebook chooses a small segment of your fans to show it to first, and there is a small window of opportunity for it to organically get more reach. In that small time frame, if there is no engagement, Facebook kills it. If there is some engagement, they open it to a wider audience, but still small when it’s organic. And, great engagement gets a little more.

You need to take time to identify your Target Audience for your Facebook page - what are they looking for a solution to?

You want to define that solution and then develop a content strategy around that, and be consistent.

Outside ways to promote your Facebook Page -

Networking offline

Periscope

Instagram

Twitter

YouTube and other Social Media Platforms

12 Step Facebook Checklist for Your Direct Sales Business

Ready to get your BUSINESS launched on Facebook? This guide will take you through the basic steps on how to be successful using Facebook, especially if you have never had a business that you talked about in Social Media before.

There is a right way and a wrong way to do things. We want to create curiosity, share our passion and enthusiasm, and ultimately get people coming to us and asking - WHAT do you do?

So, here are 12 steps to "Clean Things Up" if needed and get you ready to rock it on Facebook!

We start with cleaning up our “Space” first, kind of like you would if you were putting your home on the market to sell. You wouldn’t host an open house before you cleaned the place up and made it presentable, right? So that’s what we are going to do here.

Your Profile Picture - Is it clear? Well lit? Something that represents you well and creates an immediate brand image you want to convey? And, is it a photo of YOU, and just YOU? It should be, for business, that is. Not your family; a company logo or any of that. Just YOU!

2. Your Cover Photo - Unlike your profile photo, you can and should change out your cover photo regularly. Now that you are using Facebook for business, be creative with this. Just like your profile picture, take a look at it from the viewpoint of your visitors - Does it represent your brand? Not your company brand, as in not photos of products and such, but YOU as a brand?

3. Your About Section - This is your most valuable piece of “real estate” on Facebook, so spend some time there today and make sure it is a clear reflection of your brand. This is where you have the BEST chance to sell yourself and create interest in your business. The About section is the second most visited page/area of any website or profile.

    4. Your Friends - The ultimate way to sponsor others with Facebook, is to begin to develop a large following of friends, would be friends and turn them into potential and active business partners. I call this creating “New warm market!” You start this process by building a relationship with them, based on trust, common interests, and a general feeling that they know you, and can relate to you. It takes time to have success, but what doesn’t?

5. Your Content Shared - Take a step back and LOOK at your status updates over the last month. Are they consistent? How many times a day do you post? Can people get a real "sense" of who you are by what you share? IS there a HINT even that you have a business that you are passionate about? From here, you can begin to develop a content strategy for daily and weekly sharing that is going to begin to create what you want - INTEREST and QUESTIONS. Make sure the content you share doesn't alienate anyone who might be right for your business and my suggestion - avoid heated topics!

  6. Friends Inventory - Take an Inventory of Your "Friends." For some of you, this will be easy, as you probably really KNOW most of the people you are friends with, in the REAL, offline world. For others, who have been in the home business world for awhile, you may be like me - you have a bit of a mess on your hands, and have no CLUE who some of these people are. Back in the beginning of Facebook, quantity was king and we thought that the more friends we had, the better for business, right? WRONG! It's okay to unfriend people where there really isn't a win-win, and you don't really know them.

7. Reconnect With Friends - Begin to reconnect with your friends on Facebook. Obviously, some of them you connect with all of the time, but who on your list have you not reached out to for awhile. Set a goal to reach out to 3 people each day. Not about your business, but just to check in and see how they are doing; what they are doing; and catch up. Before you private message them, go to their profile and scroll down and see what’s been going on. Make a comment about recent events when you message them so they know you took the time and are truly interested.

8. Create New Warm Market - Add Friends! One of the first things you’ll want to start working on is growing your list of contacts on Facebook. We are limited to having 5000 friends, and the magic number to REALLY begin to see things happen is around 2000. There are a few ways to begin to grow your list of friends. One, find friends of your current friends. Who is also commenting on the status updates of your friends? Who posts stuff on your friends wall? Who are friends of your friends in your local community?Another great way to find people are groups.

9. Consistency - I recommend a minimum of 5 updates a day, and remember the 80/20 rule. 80% social, fun, engaging and so on. 20% business related. Too much business and your audience will tune you out. Find the right mix and do your business posts in a way that create curiosity and you will catch those people about your business when the time is right. Even with 4000 friends, maybe only 10% are active regularly and going to see what you share. So, if you only have 200 friends, that's 20 people. 500 friends and that's still only 50. That is why it is SO important to add to your friends list, and market daily! That is goal #1!!!

10. Friends Lists - A feature few people use is the “Lists” feature for your friends. You can categorize your Friends into lists, based on how you know them and common interests and then it is much easier to check in, as well as make custom status updates that can only be seen by the friends/lists who you want it shown to. And, this is a great way to keep up with all different friends and not just what Facebook chooses to show you. Start by clicking the FRIENDS link to the left in your newsfeed or “home link.” As far as I know, you can not create or view friend’s lists on a device - only on a computer. Let me know if you know a way around this.     11. Sharing Your Business - At some point, you will want to begin sharing light details about your business. I call Facebook the “Cheers” of the internet, like the 90s sitcom. You walk into the bar, everyone knows your name; you have some good friends, and some acquaintances and you are all sitting around sharing LIFE. LIFE includes fun, social, entertainment, and your career or business. The key is to keep it LIGHT when sharing business. I use the 80/20 rule, meaning 80% social and fun, 20% business and even business, I keep it subtle, and indirect. That means I never say - JOIN MY TEAM; or anything salesy. Acknowledge team promotions; share photos of you out working your business; shoot a video of why you joined, and so on. Then, begin to incorporate these types of photos into your daily/weekly updates.

12. Daily Strategy - Now that you are in a groove with Facebook, and your profile is set up the way you want it, and designed to work as a “calling card” for you and your business (meaning when someone clicks to your About section, they get a view into who you are, and have the chance to click and learn more about your business) it’s time to develop a daily strategy of updates and engagement. Post 3-5 times daily, and mix it up. Some fun, some social, some life stuff and some business sprinkled in. And, make sure you spend time in the newsfeed and in your friend lists commenting on status updates of others. This helps you “trick” the Facebook algorithm to some extent. Visit the groups that you are aligned with and where you can build true friendships. Reach out to 3 people a day, just to reconnect.

Haters in Your Direct Sales Business

Who's your "Mean Janeen?" If you've ever heard me share my story of struggle in the early days, you may remember my "Evil Neighbor", Mean Janeen.

In a nutshell, I finally got up the courage to go next door, ring her doorbell, carrying my "prospecting packet" for my business to share with her. Oh, I am SURE I said way too much when she answered the door, and I opened my mouth to talk about my exciting new opportunity, and maybe she  would want to explore the possibilities?

She - SERIOUSLY - threw her head back, CACKLED in a very Halloween Witchy sounding laugh, slapped her knee and said - YOU got involved in one of those? They NEVER work....BLAH, BLAH, BLAH.

I don't remember what she said after that because my ears started ringing, I felt a white hot rush of anger and humiliation rise up and she began to sound like Charlie Brown's teacher to me - WAAA WAAA WAAA.

I managed to slink back home and stew in my self pity for a few hours, and when I finally "Snapped out of it", I made a decision RIGHT there.

I made a decision to PROVE HER WRONG. And that is EXACTLY WHAT I DID.

I let a negative experience fuel me with drive and ambition.

I moved out of that neighborhood, and moved on from that era of my life. And, I moved on from her. BUT, I have never moved on from the power she ultimately provided me with through her own short sightedness.

Funny thing, she still lives there, on Divorce #3, one kid had some drug trouble, and her daughter has issues, too. I know that sounds like I am judging her. I'm not really. I have no need to. But isn't it ironic....

Who's YOUR Mean Janeen? Let's work together to let ALL of those "MJ" in our lives fuel our drive and passion!

Wrap Up on the Book Go Pro in Your Network Marketing Business

Notes From Today’s Show:

Anything worthwhile takes time, and even if you aren’t a fast starter in your business, understand the longevity side of it.

Buy a McDonald’s Franchise and they tell you, after you’ve spent a million bucks, that it’s going to be at least 2-5 years before you will be in profit.

There is a timeline for success in Direct Sales and network marketing, and we all come in with a difference set of skills.

You want to work with your sponsor to create that 30 day success story, and create belief for yourself that you can share with others.

We have a business of longevity and everyone is going to have their own way and time frame of getting signed up, and getting into action.

Take massive action, for sure!

Know the rule of 1/3s. 1/3 are getting started, 1/3 are doing something, 1/3 are leaving.

Stay out of management mode and keep building your own business!

We do a few simple steps over and over again.

We make a plan; we DO that plan and take action on it; we review the plan after 90 days and make some adjustments and write a new plan. Then, we get to work on that plan!

It is SO worth the journey, I do promise you that. I did an interview a number of years back where I was asked what the best part of having accomplished my goals was.

It’s not the money, although that is great.

IT’s not the recognition of being the top income earner in a direct sales company - although that was great, too.

It is the knowledge that I had done it, become one of the 1/2 of 1% of all people in Network Marketing.

The person you become along the journey is priceless. The people you meet and the places you see are also awesome!
