Thanksgiving and a Season of Gratitude

I’m spending the holiday in Phoenix, with my parents and my brother’s family, for the first time in YEARS. My kids were tiny the last time we were all together, so I am grateful for that!

Tweet me and let me know where you are if you are celebrating - @jackieulmer

It’s been an interesting year, personally.

Moving my parents - leaving the area I grew up in vs now in Phoenix, where I used to live.

My mom’s health

Sometimes, trying to find gratitude in the midst of struggle is challenging but that is where our greatest successes will come from.

My greatest challenge came earlier this month with one of those phone calls every parent dreads.

On November 4th, my phone rang with news that my 22 year old son had been involved in a motorcycle crash and was in a hospital trauma center with serious injuries.

Cracked ribs, broken back bones, some road rash and other scrapes and bruises - he was pretty banged up.

We had two rough days in the hospital, dealing with his pain, prognosis and what would lie ahead.

Fortunately, he is going to be fine, and is expected to make a full recovery in 6-8 weeks. He is ALIVE, Thank you God!!!

And, he is doing extremely well now, and just a few weeks later, it’s a miracle how the body can heal.

Despite the nightmare of it all, I was able  to remain fairly calm, reminding myself -

“You are in a hospital, not a morgue, not a funeral home. It could be so much worse…”

It was easy for me to do this, NOW, because I started a gratitude practice some time ago.

I learned to find the silver lining in every situation.

It was not always easy.

And, through it all. I was so grateful for a few things -

1. I own my own business, internet based, so I was able to drop everything and be there, with no boss to advise or hassles. I started it back when my son was just 15 months old, because I wanted to be there with him, and never have him in day care.

There were some challenging times, and I am grateful for those challenges because they made me stronger; more committed; and they made the prize so much more worthwhile.

I’ve learned to be grateful for every challenge and perceived obstacle in my life. There is always something of beauty in it, and sometimes I’ve had to look hard to find it.

2. Because my business is fairly automated, it continued to work for me, producing leads and INCOME. This is so important because the mental clutter associated with worry over things that should not matter in a time of crisis can be so disruptive to healing and helping.

3. I was able to rearrange my schedule to take care of him as he rehabbed here at home with me and my husband.

I realized in a split second what really matters in life, and even though I already KNEW it, it helps to be reminded.

Life is extremely fragile and the only moment we really have is this one, right now.

The past is over, let it go.

The future is not here, and is not guaranteed, so it’s best to be fully present in this moment.

15 years ago, I saw the power and potential that the internet offered.

I caught the vision.

No one ever said it would be easy, and that it  wouldn’t take work.

And, in many ways, it has not been easy and it sure has taken work.

And, everything great that we want in life is just  that -

Not always easy and not without work.

My passion and I do mean PASSION is coaching others on how to use Social Media and online tools to build a business that you TRULY own….

One that gives you a great deal of freedom and independence.

I almost can’t even put into words what that has meant to me over the last 15 years.

It really brings me to tears of gratitude.

It’s what launched my inner circle coaching program where I can dig in and help those who also want to master becoming a

Click Millionaire, and creating a lifestyle business!

Imagine how different your life would be if you learned to start it in gratitude and live each day as a gift.

Studies have shown that gratitude is a key component to personal happiness. IT’s impossible to feel sad when you are reflecting on something you are grateful for.

I love this quote by Pir Vilayat Inayat Khan

Do not be concerned about being disloyal to your pain by being joyous.

And, by Anthony Robbins -

When you are grateful, fear disappears and abundance appears.

I want to close out today by giving you some steps you can incorporate into your life to create more gratitude and see how your life shifts.

ACTION STEPS

Start a gratitude journal.

Use it daily for appreciation and reflection. Read it in the morning, reflecting on what you wrote the night before, and complete it each night, going to sleep with a smile on your face.

Practice gratitude for what you have already, what you want to keep and what you are anticipating in your life.

Pick one person to appreciate each day, and let them know it. Email, call, text, send a card or gift.

Take a midday break and take a 10-20 minute gratitude walk. Reflect on what you feel great about. If you work, it will help you end the day in a great mood and more productive.

Have a gratitude gathering once a quarter, not just on Thanksgiving.

EXPECT miracles to show up daily!

Sometimes, it’s easy to look at someone and think -

it must have been really easy for them to reach success because of XYZ.

We think this often, without knowing the whole story. I know I sure did.

So, today, I want to share a little of my journey and how it all unfolded, from zero to hero, so to speak….in case you might be thinking it must have been easy for me.

How Network Marketing Success Finally Happened for Me

Thanks for taking some time to listen to my story on how success happened for me, the successes and the failures. I’m not an instant success, by any means. I am here to paint a picture for you of what is possible, and then to truly help you create a lifestyle business - one you love and that really doesn’t feel like work at all. And, one that provides true freedom - both time and money!

Maybe what you are looking for is to build something you love; do work that is meaningful to you, and maybe even change the world! And, you might even be saying - to heck with all of that, just help me fire my boss and get out of this corporate cubicle!

I have done just that - created a true “pinch me” business - one that I love and that I jump out of bed daily, ready to do more, and reach more people.

So, Whatever your reason is, I can help you achieve it.

I’m so glad our paths have crossed.

First, it's important to know that I am a very ordinary person, with no special skills or education. In fact, I never finished college. I consider myself "Street Smart", however, because I am self taught and very passionate and driven about education that interests me. When I started, I had never taken a formal computer, web design or internet marketing class.

I began building a Direct Sales home business (offline) in 1994, and in 1999, I took my business to the Internet. I was an average home based business owner (a mom with two pre-school aged children, a husband gone half the month and a huge desire for more, ha!) before the Internet. I was not setting any records. I had success and did make money, but much of it was a struggle; much of it consisted of ways of doing the business that did not appeal to me.

I made my warm market list; contacted people and developed the skills I needed to talk to people about my business. I joined networking groups, the Chamber of Commerce and did all of the traditional methods you hear about. I struggled with contacting people in the beginning, and never wanted to be someone who chased my friends, family, neighbors and anyone who came within "3 feet of me!" Heard that story before?

I’ve been fortunate in that I had a great career before motherhood and Network Marketing came into the picture. I was in sales in the airline industry. It was a dream job, traveling the world, wining, dining and wooing travel agents and travelers and doing all of this on an expense account. It was a blast.

The problem? It did not mesh well with motherhood. So, I traded in my traveling boots and expense account for diapers and baby talk. I have not looked back.

I did, however, begin to look around, at some point. Motherhood was great, but living on one income is tough. And, my desire to have something of my own led me to begin researching home based businesses.

My father had run his own business since I was very young, and I loved the fact that he made breakfast everyday, was home for lunch, and always able to set his schedule around our many events and activities.

Entrepreneurship runs in my blood and I was determined to find a fit.

After researching different options, I started a word processing business. I had a computer and put it to work.

Small problem – time and money. My income potential rested solely on my ability to produce as well as market my services. Not so easy with a tiny baby.

I went back to my research to determine what would be a better match, without requiring a big capital investment. The options were pretty limited.

franshicing

All roads seemed to be pointing me to a profession called Network Marketing, MLM or Direct Sales. It seemed to be the best option for me in terms of income potential and time freedom. But, all of the things I was reading were not positive. In fact, there were some serious "negatives" regarding the industry.

As I furthered my research, though, I did get excited by the stories I read about ordinary people creating extra-ordinary lives through this industry. I liked the idea of self improvement and developing my people skills further. I liked the "team concept" and the ability to improve my own life situation while helping others do the same. It seemed to be a very equitable system.

Finally, after exhausting all other business options and doing as much research as I possibly could, I decided to jump in and become a Network Marketer.

I was an extreme skeptic when I finally started in the profession. I was leery of talking to my family, friends and others and letting them know that I had joined one of those things. Does this sound familiar to you? Have you felt this way?

One thing I knew, though - I wanted the income and the lifestyle that a Network Marketing business offered. And, I did not want to put my children in day care. This was my "why", and my commitment to it was all-consuming.

Today, after more than 20 years in Network Marketing, I have made nearly every mistake that could possibly be made, yet still managed to build a multi-million dollar business, and created a downline of over ten thousand with several different companies.

My early attempts at building the business were not pretty. In fact, I would love to have a recording of my early phone calls to prospects, just to prove to people that there is hope for anyone in this business. If you are determined to make it, you will. If there is anything you are struggling with. I am here to assure you that it can be overcome if you are serious, committed and willing to accept nothing less.

As time and experiences ticked away, I improved and learned from earlier “failures.” I learned to use these experiences as educational building blocks and to continue to get better with every day.

About 6 years into my business, I literally stumbled on the internet.

I was aware that DOT COM fever was taking over, but I was green beyond green and it had not yet piqued my interest.

Here’s what happened -

I attended an internet seminar to learn what to do with this website thingie my company was giving me.

I got intrigued and then passionate.

Went to library and checked out every book. Today, I still have a pile of books on internet marketing surrounding me - the latest. I still love Crush It, Launch by Jeff Walker, Brendon Burchard’s  Millionaire Messenger , Michael Hyatt’s Platform and others.

All links in show notes.

Never stop studying and being a student.

****Quick Disclaimer****

You'll hear a lot of debate about "old school vs. new school" marketing techniques in Direct Sales. Both work, and never think otherwise. I do believe that you should always notify your warm market list about your business. Remember this – everyone who goes online looking for a business has a warm market already, and chances are they know someone with a business that might interest them. But, they have not been notified.

****End Disclaimer****

Now, you may be thinking that it must have been easy for me to transition to the Internet; perhaps I already had a computer background. Maybe I already knew the inner workings of the Internet and had a head start. I want to reinforce this point, in case you are doubting your own abilities. The reality is, I knew that the Internet existed; I knew there was a website called Yahoo for finding things (although I never knew how to get back to where I started); and I knew we had an email address, which rarely contained anything of value.

I was just a stay-at-home mom who wanted to create something more for my family and future. I didn’t want my husband to have the stress of supporting a family of 4 on one income. I didn’t want to leaf through travel magazines and wish we could travel, too.

That was it! I was greener than green. Here are words and concepts I knew nothing about -

URL – had no idea what that term meant.

Domain name – See above.

Auto responder – that sounded WAY too techie to even think about. Even lead capture or splash page.

Search Engine, Optimize, Pay Per Click – all foreign terms.

Social Media Marketing – that term didn't even exist!!!

Here is what I did know –

The facts and figures associated with this growing phenomenon called The Internet was/is staggering. I wanted to be a part of it. I knew it was the answer to my prayers for growing a successful business. I knew this was going to be my ticket to success in MLM. I knew that it was going to take some effort, and it would be the best decision I would ever make. I knew this was how a stay-at-home mom with small children was going to make Network Marketing work!

I was sold. And, there was no turning back for me. I rolled up my sleeves and got busy.

Here’s what happened – it exceeded my wildest expectations. It created exactly what I wanted in a business from home and in Network Marketing and Affiliate Marketing.

It allowed me to toss my advertising and paid leads list; stop hanging out in coffee shops waiting to be no-showed by my prospect; stop spending hours at weekly meetings; and, it allowed me to have my business out in front of big numbers of people without even needing to be physically present.

Pinch me! It was a dream come true, and quite honestly, I’m still lost in the dream! Except, it is really happening.

Here are a few of the benefits of finding people through the Internet; or rather having them find you!

1. More Qualified Prospects – it’s a self help world and people use the Internet to find solutions. Once they land on your website, they are a much more highly qualified prospect for your business because of the way that they located you.

2. People come to YOU – that’s right, they find you through a variety of different ways covered in this book, and they essentially ask you to tell them more about your business. What more can you ask for?

3. Target Marketing – the Internet allows you to find those people who are a likely target market for your business and your products because of the way it is set up. If you make a list of everyone you know, a large percentage of those on your list are not looking and not interested. It's much more fun and profitable to work with people who come to you already interested.

4. No more overcoming Objections – the three biggest objections in Network Marketing are – is it Network Marketing (pyramid), no time and no money. By using a personal website and the tools I explain here, I never even hear those objections anymore, no less overcome them!

5. Time Leverage – I regularly sponsor new people into my business while I am at the beach, on vacation, sleeping, or anywhere but home, working my business. This happens because I have the tools set up online to find, sort and sponsor team members without having to actually be there. In other words, I don’t go out looking for leads, they come to me. I create marketing funnels and do marketing activities and those activities produce results.

6. Sort in, sort out – people sort themselves onto my site and into my business system online and they sort themselves out, if they are not qualified or interested, by simply clicking out. This is great because I invest my time in serious prospects and don’t waste my time with those not interested.

7. No geographical or time limitations – my business partners are made up of people all over my country; and all over the globe. I am not restricted by time zones, other commitments, etc., in presenting my business to them. They land on my website and preview everything without me!

8. Simple, repetitive follow up, which is the key – an automated follow up system allows me to capture a prospect’s attention, when the time is right for him or her. This is done through an automated email campaign.

9. Low Overhead – the required marketing costs online run around $30 - 70 monthly. Not bad for a full blown, full color “talking” brochure that will sell for me anytime, any place, regardless of where I am. I stress required because you may choose to expand some of what you do as you progress. One or two solid websites/blog and a great auto-responder are the required tools.

10. Finally, and please don’t miss this point - you now have a business that YOU truly own and can take with you anywhere.  As much as I appreciate all that the Network Marketing profession has provided for me, it has not come without some costs, too.

One thing I learned is that while I can earn a great income with NWM, and create time freedom, I don’t truly own that business I operate under policies and procedures, and terms and conditions that I have no say over, and they can be changed at ANY time.

Compensation plans can be changed at any time, and the overall structure of the company can be changed, sold and dissected to the point that it may not even resemble the company I joined. I am not in complete control, and I have had several incidences with company changes that left me unhappy and with the realization that I would be starting over.

With my own website, and my own list, I can make whatever changes I want. I was able to easily make some changes on my website, to my autoresponders, and be in business with another company, almost without skipping a beat. I could still generate leads and build a team.

And, over time, I could create products and services to market to my list, and generate my own training and marketing company. I love this way of doing business and now I truly control my destiny, regardless of what my NWM company decides to do. After all, the NWM company is still corporate America itself, and those decisions can directly affect me.

So, I followed the coaching of some great internet marketers, not network marketers. Many are no longer around or have gone on to other things, but the principles they taught me are what I still teach today -

Have your own website - blog

Capture leads there.

Develop a relationship with those leads by providing content.

Share that content on marketing channels such as social media - Facebook, YouTube, linked in Twitter, Pinterest, instagram and more.

Be consistent and get to know your audience.

So, that’s what I did then, and what I still do today.

Success, even online, didn’t happen overnight, but wow, did it change things.

I soon was sponsoring more every month than I did in a year.

As of July, 2010, I had sponsored more than 1,200 people personally – people who have found me, come to me and requested to know more about my business. People who have sold themselves on a career in Network Marketing and a partnership together. As of the end of 2014, over 1,800 people.

I started being invited to do webinars, speak at events and asked about coaching!

WOW! These were all of the things I dreamed about in 1999, when I sat hunched over that laptop, breaking my back and building my website, ha ha, wondering what the heck a mom like me was doing thinking this would work!

But, work it did, and still does.

So, that, in a nutshell, is my story.

Today I am very focused on coaching and mentoring others to success in Direct Sales, developing a business online and using the tools of social media.

It really is a pinch me business.

ACTION STEPS

Decide how serious and committed you are to your success.

Make some decisions around how you want to build your business. What methods will you use to reach people?

Have you ever been in the grocery store, or at a party, and you strike up a conversation with someone who you just resonate with? You just really feel that they have what it takes to succeed in network marketing.

And, then you struggle with how to get the conversation started and then how to ask for their contact information….

So, lLet’s talk about those cold market conversations - how to get them started and get their numbers for your Network Marketing business…

And, a brief intro into texting people as a first contact.

My inner circle group coaching on Network Marketing success and how to build your business and create your own leads online is alive and well.

JackieUlmer.com/coach

How to Effectively Prospect in the Cold Market Real World for Your Network Marketing Business and Get Their Contact Information.

You’ll find that many network marketing trainers and companies only teach warm market list making and that leaves a few people out in the COLD. Yes, only having cold market to talk to.

Why?

Maybe you’ve burned your warm market.

Maybe you are young and your influential circle is challenging.

And, no matter what, you are going to run into people you don’t know who might be great so why not learn proper techniques on how to impact others and branch out a little.

You never know who is looking or how you will cross paths with them.

Here’s the breakdown on how to have these good conversations.

First, be prepared, Always carry a small notepad or blank business cards or blank paper and a pen. This is critical.

Then, let’s have some scripting down pat!

You are at the store or a restaurant; the check out gal or server is amazing - friendly

You ask questions - how long have you worked here…

Oh, you must really like it….often they will grimace or say - not so much.

A great way to open the conversation is - Well, would you be open to a side project to earn some more income if it didn’t interfere with what you are already doing?

When they say yes, you want to be dead on ready -

Okay, well I’m in a hurry and can’t get into the details here, plus you are working, so how about this - write down your name, email and phone number and I will follow up with you when it’s a better time.

Hand them the paper and ask - when is a good time?

If they start asking for details, you cut it short and say - I’ll be sharing a short online video with you when we speak and it’s going to give you all of the details about the company I work with, how we get paid and what you would be doing.

Would you be open to watching that short video?

IF they don’t want to give their phone number, that’s ok. An email is better than nothing. And, ask if they are on Facebook too. Connecting through social media is awesome.

Now, another step is to take out your phone and say, what’s your # - I’ll shoot you a quick text to connect and then I can text you some details.

Now you’ve removed the awkwardness of a live call, which is what scares a lot of people.

So, let’s talk a little about texting to your warm market contact list as well.

Here is a little about what we know -

Emails often don’t get opened

Phone calls often don’t get returned

Direct mail works, but takes time and costs money

Text messages - now let’s think about that - text messages almost ALWAYS get read, right?

Think about your own habits there.

Would you like to set more appointments?  Are you having some fear with the thought of contacting your own warm market?

Are you willing to do this, if you could just get the ball rolling?

So, what if you sent a short text to a few people a day who are i your mobile phone and asked - hey, would love to get together. Do you have some time in the next week?

They will almost always answer you. Set the time, confirm it and then SHARE with them that you have a project you want to share with them, as well as get caught up.

Set the appointment and then let them know you have a project you want to share because you don’t want this to be a bait and switch like the old days.

If they ask a lot of questions, ease their mind by saying - it’s super simple, won’t take a lot of time. I’m working on something, would love your opinion and any referrals you might think of who might want to join the project.

Don’t avoid questions, though -

Is it MLM?

Questions -

What if they live outside of local market and you can’t meet one on one?

Use the tools you have - skype or google hangouts is a great way to connect and show them exactly what you would face to face. This is amazing - you can have live meetings very easily!

What if you get low results?

Take a look at what you are saying? Are you over sharing or just working to schedule appointment? Set the appointment and then let them know you have a project you want to share because you don’t want this to be a bait and switch like the old days.

Have you been pushy in the past with your contacts and your opportunity? This could be why they are moving away.

You can fix this, but it takes time and working to rebuild that relationship. Skip the meeting for the first time you meet with them. Just have coffee, ask about them. Be a true authentic friend.

Give it a try and just SEE what happens!

ACTION STEPS

Set a goal for number of new contacts you want to make weekly.

Get prepared with a notepad or some way to collect details.

Prepare what you are going to say so it slides off your tongue very easily.

Set a 90 day challenge for yourself to do this.

Coach your team to do the same.

Ahhhh, the keys to life, and business success and happiness - wouldn’t we all like to know what they are?

And, can it really come down to 3 simple things? Well, I know that it does for me…at least now. I didn’t always feel this way, but now, being older and wiser and having some life experiences, I know that the keys to not only my happiness, but my online and Direct Sales success come down to 3 philosophies to live by.

Let’s talk about these on today’s show….

Thanks for joining me on the show today and I would love to know what brought you here? How did you find this show? Send me a tweet - @jackieulmer and ask any questions you might have for the show.

3 Keys to Success in Life and Business

My early thirties were a rough time in my life. In fact, the whole decade is the least favorite of my life. Much of it is a blur, and much of it seems to have been spent in self struggle.

OF frustration with my self…

Of not being and doing where and what I wanted, to some extent….

Of wanting it to be easier….

Sadly, I was always looking outside of myself for the answers. I was not focused on what truly matters in life and what creates happiness.

I learned what it is NOT, for sure.

Today, I stay focused on these 3 simple things each day, to create happiness, joy, peace and success in my life.

1. I want to be happy and joyful - this is a must for each day and I get up thinking about how I will do this for THIS day.

2. I want to live in the moment, and while I have things out in the future to be excited about; working toward and so on, TODAY, this moment is the only one I have.

3. I want to be productive in all areas of my life - personal, spiritual, physical, business, relationships and more.

So, let’s talk about how each of these come together, and what my daily practice looks like for each -

1. Happiness - starts with gratitude just to wake up each morning and recognizing what I am surrounded with -

My home

My family and relationships

My dog

Green tea to watch the sunrise with

Warmth

Healthy Food

My health and fitness

So, I say a prayer of gratitude first thing for each of these and then I take action on them.

I focus on feeding my mind and my body optimal things to stay strong.

For my mind, this means positive in, positive out. VERY little news and noise. What serves me and then allows me to serve others?

Who do I surround myself with? I have weaned myself away from those who are consistently negative. It doesn’t serve me, and I can’t really serve them until they are ready. So, I can love em, and leave em!

Honesty with myself is another important part of feeding my mind. When I am honest with myself, it is easier to be honest with others.

For my body, this means healthy food choices - real food, whole food, organic food and VERY little processed food. Lean protein and vegetables make up 90% of my diet. You’ve heard about shopping the perimeter of the store? That’s where I am most of the time.

Most of my groceries require refrigeration.

Exercise, in the form of yoga, walking, stretching and light weights - EVERY day.

Good sleep - I have struggled with this off and on, but have seen rapid improvements since I made some radical changes to my diet and gave up gluten and most grains. I am not a purist, and occasionally will have a grain or something with gluten, but as a rule, no.

For my relationships, I strive to be fully present more.

2. Living in the moment

Spend time and make choices around when the moment presents itself.

Create content or ride bikes to the harbor?

Work on blog posts or go to the movies with my husband?

Work on priorities to help live in the now.

In two hours, two days, two weeks, two years or two decades, how will this decision matter?

Where is what I am focused on right now taking me?

3. Productive

What needs to happen today to be most productive in -

Personal - what am I doing to make me happy and better? What do I love and enjoy? How am I taking care of myself? Beach?

Health/Fitness - have I worked out? Am I moving my body enough? How much walking am I getting done?

Relationships - who needs my time and attention? Who needs to hear from me?

Spiritual - beach, meditation, checking in with God, listening to myself

Business - what is moving my business forward? What do I need to learn? What do I need to do/execute on? What will create more in my lifestyle business? Where can I focus online to create an impact?

Each day, I can check in on each area.

ACTION STEPS

What are your 3 top things? Think about it and write them down.

What can you do now to be focused on this regularly?

Where will this take you in 5 years?

There is no doubt that there are lots of opinions about Network Marketing out there. Some good, some bad and some ugly.

On today’s show, let’s get into why exactly there are so many opinions about Network Marketing out there and some things you’ll want to know if you are just getting started and how to have conversations with others when some of the “bad and the ugly” concepts come up!

Thanks for joining me on the show today and I would love to know what brought you here? How did you find this show? Send me a tweet - @jackieulmer and ask any questions you might have for the show.

The Good Bad and Ugly in MLM

1. Start your own business for less than $500 typically.

2. Learn great business skills, if you will be coachable and apply them. Sales, marketing, networking, communication, leadership and certainly plenty about your own strengths and weaknesses.

3. Passive and Residual Income - understand the difference. Residual is recurring, month after month, passive is what you make without doing much for it. Builds over time,

4. Tax advantages, if you run your business right. This is one huge benefit most people don’t get and don’t take advantage of.

Learn more about Tax Saving Strategies from SANDY BOTKIN

5. Personal growth, stretching yourself.

6. Business you can will, sell and pass on in most cases.

7. Fabulous income potential.

Now, here is the bad -

1. Simple business concept and simple to do - not easy. This is largely due to mindset.

2. In the past, it has been associated with “get rich quick schemes.” Not by the company itself, but by crazy reps, who don’t get it.

3. Often attracts the wrong type of people - those with a lottery mentality.

4. Most people will quit after talking to no one, or maybe just 2 people or within 60 days. There is a reason we say it is a minimum 2-5 year plan

5. It takes a serious focus and commitment.

6. Low cost of entry - sounds funny to be listed as both good and bad, but because it is low cost, people quit easier and figure they’ve just lost some cash.

7. You still don’t TRULY own a business - your company does. And, you are at their mercy.

The Ugly

1. Those who promise get rich quick - here are some things that you might see or hear -

2. No selling

3. Never talk to anyone

4. We do the work so you don’t have to…

5. Many people who quit never take personal accountability and responsibility - they just go out and bash the network marketing profession.

6. Frontloading by some

7. Most people will never make a dime and will feel they “lost money.”

Here’s the bottom line - if you truly want freedom and lifestyle, and are willing to actually follow a system and do the work, you can have what you want. And, it might just be the perfect fit for you.

If you are someone who is overly concerned with what you PERCEIVE that others may think of you, it’s going to be a long, tough road full of frustration and it may not be for you.

If you are way too caught up in the “ugly” side of things, it may not be for you. Everything negative that is said about the network marketing profession has a solid explanation. Yes, there are bad people out there in our profession, just like any profession.

Show me any business that doesn’t have this.

If you decide MLM is for you, don’t use the bad and ugly as a crutch or justification for why it won’t work for you.

ACTION STEPS

Get clear on your own mindset around network marketing.

Surround yourself with the type of people within MLM who you want to emulate; who you trust and want to be around.

Do some inner soul searching - are you like me? Driven to be one of the 3%, and then 1% and then even 1/2%?

Put your blinders on and get to work!

The Power of Stories in Business

Butch’s story - Dig Your Well Before you are Thirsty

I just wanted to thank you for doing the Mindshift to Millions webinar last week.  It came at a perfect time for me.  Many of the points you covered are things that have been holding me back for years.

I've never been able to nail down exactly what has been my roadblock, but I think it's a combination of many things that you discussed.  I've let fears of rejection, failure, loss of credibility or reputation, and probably many more that I can't think of right now stop me before I got started.  It's really silly when you think about it.

I've heard you speak many times about how important your "why" is to success in a homebased business.  You would think that just being able to provide better for my family would be enough of a why, and it should be.  So, I wonder if I just haven't focused enough on my why in the past.  Your webinar gave me a lot to think about.

On September 18, our lives changed, maybe forever.  My wife Debra had a stroke and has been paralyzed on her left side ever since.  Today is day number 36 in the hospital.  When she finally comes home, she won't be able to be left alone, so I may not be able to go to work.  Working from home may not just be an option but a necessity.

So, my "why" is now off the charts.  She's only 51, and I'm confident she will recover, but it will be a long road.  I'm kicking myself now for not building a business previously.  It would sure help us now.

I know there is no shortcut to success, but if there's anything you can think of that might help move things along a little quicker for us, I would appreciate a heads-up.  Your webinar really helped my perspective in many areas.

I don't know if you look for podcast ideas, but you are more than welcome to use our story to let your listeners know that having a homebased business could help prepare them for the unexpected.

Thanks again for the great webinar, and take care.

There are two words you want to avoid like the plague in your Network Marketing business - Fast and Easy.

There is nothing fast or easy about building any type of long term successful business.

Avoid Fast and Easy in Network Marketing

Do the work - get focused and stay consistent, whether you are building an online network marketing business or offline.

Equal Odds - by James Clear - The average thing of any particular maker does not have any statistically different chance of having more of an impact than any other maker’s average thing. Paraphrased

What is your thing?

Your network marketing business

Your Blog

Your social media engagement

Your blog comments to drive traffic

Your efforts

Everyone feels insecure at times about their “thing!”

What’s the risk vs reward of what you are pursing in your home business?

Put your head down, do the research you need, and take action.

Have faith and believe.

ACTION STEPS

Decide what the work is that you need to do in order to create what you want.

Focus on commitment and consistency and let go of income goals for a time.

How can you incorporate “Equal Odds” into your business?

Write out the real risks in your business vs the rewards. Which are you more scared by - the risks, or NOT having the rewards?

What do you need to learn to get started? Do it!

MLM the Holidays and YOU!

Those who are serious about their network marketing business keep working and those who are looking DON’T stop looking because of the holidays.

You can really set a pace for an explosive start of the year by continuing to work steadily.

Don’t stop working  - you don’t quit anything else - marriage, kids, job, church, fitness and so on

Don’t bring up your network marketing business at holiday events, parties and family gatherings except in a general sense. And, if people ask you, be positive and let them know now is not a good time, when can you connect in the next few days? Be a pro!

DO use these events to meet a lot of people and begin conversations. Get contact info and learn as much as you can about them. Look for buying signs and signals but hold back, don’t pounce.

Keep contacting people and expect that they may say they are too busy, and to check back in January. PERFECT! This is great because it will fill in your january calendar. Just keep track and follow up!

Remember, it’s just small blocks of time that make it happen. Schedule 2 blocks of 15 minutes each in your calendar each day for contacting new people.

Don’t overuse your products as gifts for family and friends. This can be a real turn off. If you’ve never done this before, pick and choose, and be careful.

Have a team social holiday party.

Have a customer appreciation party, even a lunch to make it fast and easy. And, schedule one on ones for those who can’t make it to showcase new products and give some samples.

Hold a holiday open house for those in party plan or with products that fit.

Carry samples with you and never give one out without getting their contact info.

If you send a card with photos and updates, send ONE that has you at an event. Don’t mention it, just include it to create curiosity.

If you have children and are in the Santa line strike up conversations. Connect and get contact information but don’t dump on people right there. Drop hints, create interest and follow up.

Do some follow up now with past contacts. Schedule a phone or face-to-face appointment to review your program or products. How might your products fill a need for your contacts or referrals during the holiday season? Brainstorm some ideas before the meeting.

Begin reviewing your past year’s goals and accomplishments. Where can you improve? In what ways can you push yourself on to bigger and better next year? Have your next year’s business plan concrete before January 1!

Keep your focus, remember CANI (constant and never ending improvement) and enjoy the season, knowing that you are doing and being the best you can be! Set big expectations and make them happen.

Online tips -

Keep blogging

Use your amazon links now to promote on social media. But, be cool, don’t just advertise.

Don’t use the year in videos, so that they stay evergreen.

Share photos of your team parties and customer parties on social media. Create interest.

This is a good time to work on the techie side of your blog. Spend time planning for next year; develop an editorial calendar and with some planning, your online activities will soar!

ACTION STEPS

Schedule your team party.

Schedule your customer party.

Schedule your calendar with 15 minute blocks of time.

Find events going on where you can meet people.

Have a plan for meet, greet, get to know and follow up later.
