Network Marketing and Social Media Question

 

A question I get regularly from those who are blogging and working on building their online presence and attracting their perfect target audience to them is - 

 

How do I create content? What do I create and why would anyone listen to me, I’m not an expert!

 

 

ANSWER

 

Start by sharing your own experiences. What are you learning? What are you reading and listening to? What events are you attending? What actions steps you are taking?

 

Expert status - what it means - you know just a little more!

 

When you read a Network Marketing or self development book, listen to a training on Social Media or attend an event, think of the education in two ways -

 

What will I learn and implement? 

 

What can I give to others and impact them through what I am learning?

 

Once you consume information and training, put it into action, then immediately share what you learned, what you did to take action, what you learned again, what you tweaked along the way, how others might also do this.

 

It’s a 3 step process -

 

Invest in your own learning and advancement. Money and time.

 

Learn from your investment and take action on it!

 

Teach - cement your own learning by teaching it to others and walk the journey together.

 

Think of it this way - If you saw value in the information, don’t you think others will as well? How many notebooks of notes do you have from events? Stacked on a bookshelf somewhere or tucked in a drawer?

 

Did you know you have thousands of dollars of uncashed checks sitting there, if you aren’t using and sharing that knowledge?

 

Creating content and offering value is easy when you think to yourself - what am I learning and experiencing? How can I turn this into a learning experience for others and deliver a positive impact on many?

Network Marketing QUESTION

 

In a recent coaching call with one of my own team members, she mentioned to me - What I am doing is not working, just talking to people. I wasn’t sure what she meant by this, so I asked her to elaborate.

 

She said - I am talking to people while I am out and about, watching for people who are shopping for and buying the products I offer, but doing so at the store. I stop them, share some details on what I do and give them my card with my website on it.

 

No one has called me or contacted me. Why isn't this working?

 

 

ANSWER

 

 

No, it's probably not, and most likely, only 1 in a thousand ever will call you, even if that many.

 

Let’s think about it for a minute.

 

Think about permission based marketing and intrusive marketing.

 

Which is this? Was this person expecting to bump into you? Are they open? Or might they possibly feel that your interruption is intrusive and maybe even unwelcome?

 

Do you ever walk out to your car and find flyers under the windshield wipers? What do you typically do with those? THROW THEM AWAY, often without even reading them.

 

When you attend a trade show or any type of event with booths, do you ever find yourself gathering information, or having it thrust at you, and you put it in a bag. Then, what happens to that bag and it’s contents?

 

 

Success in marketing happens through rapport building. Rapport building happens through asking questions, finding a need, and then filling that need. It’s hard to do all of this on the “first date!”

 

 

Does this mean you shouldn’t talk to people while out and about? Of course not, just be intentional in how you do so and consider the other person and how they may respond, above and beyond all else. Get your own agenda out of the way.

 

Ask if they would be open to hearing about another product line much like what they are currently shopping for? ALWAYS get their contact details and never leave it up to them to contact you.

 

How often do YOU contact someone who you’ve never met before, who gives you a business card, when you least expect it?

I have Lorenzo Ferdinands and Nisha Heallmy, from Singapore on with me today. I grabbed a few minutes with them at our recent company convention, so you’ll likely hear a little background noise, but know that the content and what they share is outstanding and worth a listen.

This is GenY, Global and Network Marketing at its finest!

 

 

Lorenzo - go to college, get good grades, and became a bio engineer, and ended up injecting and killing rats.

 

Didn’t love his boss!

 

A friend called him and asked him to take a look at a new business he was starting.

 

Lorenzo had never heard of Network Marketing and he was wide open to it.

 

Get two people, who get two people and so on! Well, he crashed and burned to begin with, and then found the company that was the right fit and he jumped in full time! Left his job and is going for it.

 

We work 8 hour days for someone else - put in that time consistently for yourself and you can make the income you need.

 

He was always open to entrepreneurship after an internship in Hawaii where he saw people kite surfing and living a great life, during the day, during the week.

 

That kicked in his entrepreneurial spirit but had to overcome the instant gratification mentality.

 

With his second company, things clicked for him after a few months of doing basically nothing. He did “quitter kind of stuff.”

 

He decided to plug in and listen to calls from various trainers and the company and begin getting excited and realized it is an actual business that takes consistency.

 

He decided to do Network Marketing right! It’s simple but not easy! The shift began to take place.

 

It was mostly a mindset shift he needed.

 

The network marketing tools were there and he knew what to say and do, but he had to shift his mind, become consistent for “long enough” and get rid of the instant gratification mentality.

 

Once you start taking action, you learn the rest and it falls into place.

 

How did he build the business? Start with your warm market first; know how to approach them and do it right. He was not in his home country (Sri Lanka) so he had to stretch outside of that boundary. He could have used the excuse - I don’t have enough people to talk to - but he decided not to.

 

He decided to start cold calling realtors after listening to Todd Falcone’s CDs on this process.

 

Now, he is fearless and focuses on calling Real Estate agents as his main process.

 

Was he fearless taking on this approach? He was confident because of a previous sales job he had had. Was he competent? That had to be developed, but if you keep it simple, use the scripts and keep it simple, you’ll get there. He had to develop his posture and learn to say less.

 

In fact, today he would say he is great at it - positive affirmations!

 

How did you keep at it even on those days you didn’t want to?

 

He speaks affirmations to himself for a long time. He tells himself he is great and has discipline. And, it works! He doesn’t want to be a liar to himself!

 

He schedules time slots on his calendar so he is organized. Telling yourself you’ll do two hours a day is one thing, but once you schedule it, it becomes a habit!

 

 

He is Gen Y and he believes it is the perfect fit for not only his generation but any generation. It;s important to start something at a young age, but this is nothing new; people have been doing this for years. But right now, with jobs and economy and student debt, it’s even more important.

 

 

He wishes he would have known and built a business while at University. It’s important for Gen Y because everyone has a degree these days and there are no jobs.

 

Start with something that is going to provide you freedom for the future.

 

Gen Y wants freedom, time and income to do what they want.

 

How does one keep Gen Y focused? It’s not just Gen Y - all kinds of people get distracted by new and shiny, and they jump from thing to thing, losing focus/ They lose their why and what they are going for.

 

But at the same time, Gen Y has energy, courage and a carefree attitude about what others may say.

 

It’s still the same that we have to go through a lot of people to find the leaders, but they are out there. Huge passion and enthusiasm is what it takes.

 

Some will work, some will not - it’s all sorting.

 

How important is attending events, as Lorenzo is attending his first convention, traveling across the globe!

 

He sees that it is worth it in so many ways -

 

Meeting the leadership team of the network marketing company; the corporate staff; seeing the vision of what’s ahead.

 

There are challenges building a business, we all; go through them; we all struggle yet meeting and talking to others who have gone through it is so important.

 

Events recharge so you can go back out and build the business. Even after you have had results, you can get burned out!

 

The networking, the people, and it’s not even over, but he is ready to go back and get busy building the business.

 

Be at events even when you don’t have a guest!

 

Most of he and Nisha’s personal recruits come in from events.

 

He is building not only in Singapore, but will also spend the next 2 months in the US and plans to focus heavily on building here, picking up the phones and getting busy.

 

With technology today, it’s so easy to build a global team - training through Skype, reaching people through Social Media - as long as your company is open, you can build a business there!

 

It’s great to get to meet people face to face for a change.

 

Make a decision, and then go do it. It’s not a difficult business. The words are the same, over and over. A parrot could do it, but you have to make the decision!

 

Stop at nothing until it is achieved!

 

NISHA:

 

Grew up very comfortable, went to school, got a degree and went to work in advertising. Never wanted to rock the boat, just was doing what her person told her.

 

But, she knew something was missing when she spent time with entrepreneurial friends and how they had amazing things planned for their future, and she did not want to get left behind!

 

She didn’t have a “why” to begin with, but just began to see what is possible.

 

She as introduced to network marketing by her friends. She wasn’t skeptical, just confused. She could see what was possible but was not sure of her own ability. Began to get too technical.

 

She realized that as she just started doing it, she would figure out how to do things in a way that fit for her.

 

She focused on doing the basics - how to contact, invite. She didn’t worry about understanding the compensation plan.

 

She wanted to know what the cost as to join, and how she could make her money back.

 

She learned to explain that to others and no one asks her then about the compensation plan.

 

 

She gets specific with us about the word - comfortable - don’t rock the boat, don’t try anything else when you have a job and set pay. 

 

Then, her mind expanded and she began to think about what she wanted.

 

And, then began to build strong relationships. So today she focuses on making lots of friends, adding value and enriching lives!

 

And, now, she gets paid to do that!

 

She loved advertising, but she is never going back.

 

30:35 - her why.

 

She struggled with her why and being specific with it. She borrowed Lorenzo’s dreams to begin with.

 

Nisha is also full time, but she was scared to quit her job and let her parents know. So, she asked for a sabbatical for 3 months instead of quitting. Then, it expanded to six months, and now forever!

 

She told her boss what she planned to do and he was very open to it!

 

Nisha builds her business differently and is not into cold calling.

 

She builds through a lot of networking events, both social and business and focuses on building friendships first. She talks very little and asks lots of questions.

 

 

How does Nisha use Social Media for her business? She doesn’t have an exact strategy. She joins group and looks for others with energy and then reaches out to them and makes friends from there.

 

She does this with people all over the world.

 

She takes lots of photos at events and posts them on Facebook and it creates curiosity, questions and referrals.

 

 

People will join your business if they trust you enough!

 

 

She never dreamed she would be able to build a global business, but now, she sees the huge opportunity that’s out there to grow a huge team, all around the world!

 

The beauty of Network Marketing - whatever you don’t know, you can find someone who does, and someone in your upline who can support you!

 

This is her first convention, she won a “Circle of Excellence” award and it has been important, and life changing! Now hew goal is to get her team members winning award.

I just had a conversation this week with one of my clients in the SocialMediaBackStagePass.com coaching program and she was quite upset after getting her first mean, negative comment on one of her blog posts. She wondered if she should turn off her blog comments and what she could do to prevent this.

 

 

ANSWER

 

As I am recording this, I just got an email from someone today who just sent - F U - as his comment as he unsubscribed from my emails. Yep, dropped the "F-Bomb" on me! A guy, to a female he has never met, or even had a conversation with.

 

I attended my company convention recently where dozens of people came up to me and thanked me for my podcasts, and shared how much value they got from them, and then I had one email complaining about an ebook that didn’t contain the “nuts and bolts” of what this person was looking for.

 

After spending time stewing over that, I laughed and said to my husband - I am letting one comment over ride the dozens of other positive feedback I have received, why am I doing this?

 

Well, it’s human nature - we want to be liked….by everyone. And, we don’t understand it when they don’t.

 

My high school friend, hurt by an ignored friend request.

 

Social Media Examiner just experienced this.

 

As did the Huffington Post

 

Blog and Facebook comments

 

Hate mail

 

 

Less than 1/2 of 1% of all that comes in, and yet it is human nature to focus there.

 

Here is what I have learned -

 

Unhappy People

 

Trolls

 

Those with legitimate feedback.

 

Above all, never feed the trolls.

 

Sadly, some people are truly hateful and unhappy, and the way they choose to deal with it is to vent it out on others. Maybe it makes them feel like big shots; I don’t know.

 

Learn to let it roll right off of you. No matter what - your real friends are your friends; your family still loves you, and you know that you are doing something to spread light and positivity into the world.

 

Don’t let the trolls and haters get you down.

ANSWER

 

Here are a few of the things wrong with this type of Prospecting -

Names - being a name dropper is only impressive to the person dropping the names

Million Dollar Earners - most of them, I had never heard of!

No one would need to know - am I going to build this unknown? What?

Company Owner - most people won't know the name

Billion Dollar Prediction - it's not money that sells as much as freedom and lifestyle. A company making a billion means nothing to me!

 

 

Learn good success language; how to properly invite someone and make it about THEM! Remember, they want to know - what's in it for me!

Most of the groups I find online are centered around the US and I live outside of the US. How do I find groups and prospects in my country so I can find and sponsor people into my business?

 

 

ANSWER

 

Know your opportunity first. Can you recruit outside of your country? Learn all of the details and if you are just looking for a company, make sure you choose one that is flexible in this way. Some are, some are not.

 

We are a global society now, and building a global team is FUN and lucrative!

 

I had a goal 15 years ago when I started online to build a business where the sun would never set on my income! Today, I have that. When I set that goal, my company was only in the US and Canada. That company is gone now, but global has been on my radar for years. And, my goal sheet.

 

 

Set aside some time to do some solid research.

 

Facebook - groups and pages

LinkedIn - groups

Pinterest - hashtags and the search

Twitter - hashtags

 

 

Several types of groups -

 

MLM

Network Marketing

Home Business

Direct Sales

Party plan

WAHM

 

 

These typically attract people from all over, not just US.

 

Lots of lurkers so you won’t always see the ones who are watching you. But, be consistent and people are watching you.

 

 

There are other types too -

 

Cooking

Home schooling

 

Pages -

 

Robert Kiyosaki

John Maxwell

Starbucks

Brighton

 

Ask others who are in your country and involved in Network Marketing if they have any to recommend.

 

Ask in the groups you are already part of.

 

Don’t forget forums outside of Facebook. Use Google. And, Google Plus.

 

People are everywhere as is our target audience. Ask, research, google, use search features, and such. It may take some time, but I learned to measure my time online to other things I did offline.

 

For instance, attending a meeting offline takes about 3 hours with drive time, the meeting and such. How much can I get done online in 3 hours? Who might I find and connect with?

What does it take to be successful in Network Marketing? What are those things I should focus on daily?

 

 

ANSWER

 

A B C D  - these are what makes or breaks you.

 

A - attitude

B - belief

C - culture

D - DMO  daily method of operation

 

 

Attitude - are you confident, or just wishing and hoping? What are you sharing with your prospects through your body language and conversation? You can say one thing, and easily feel another.

 

 

Belief - in you and your ability.

 

Culture this starts with YOU in action, following a system and sharing this concept every time you can with those on the team. It doesn’t matter how they find people - online, offline, ads, biz opp leads - the key is inviting 2 a day. So, you create the culture by always asking - did i work my business to the best of my ability today?

 

 

DMO - Daily method of operation. Where the rubber meets the road. Income producing activities; contact, invite, present with tools, follow up, track, be organized, be consistent, take time off when you need it and yet get back in the saddle; don’t complain; reframe how you see things.

 

 

Success is about simply doing a few simple things, over and over again. It’s blocking out the negativity that we can allow to creep in; the doubts, the fears and the lack of belief. That small voice that can smack us if we aren’t careful.

 

Everyone goes through it. You think Bill Gates didn’t? Steve Jobs? Donald Trump?

 

All successful people go through the challenges; the near failures and so on. They just don’t let it define the vision and future they want.

Thanks to Angel for the question - how often should I email my list? I’m scared that I may say too much, or email too much and I don’t want to lose them before I have the chance to sponsor them. Help!

 

 

 

ANSWER

 

 

Having a big list is one thing; getting your emails opened is another; and converting those on the list to buyers is yet another. All 3 go hand in hand.

 

I want to really make a point with you - All you are doing online is creating new warm market. That's it. You are taking people you didn't know, and turning them into people you DO know, or at least who know YOU.

 

You will hear over and over again how important it is to share your story, share your story, share your story. Now, you may be thinking, why would these people care? Well, why do so many people read People magazine, and read about celebrities?

 

We like to be entertained and see what other people are up to. This is why reality shows are so popular. Once people opt in to your list, YES, they are interested in learning about your business and What's in it for them.

 

And, they are also interested in learning about YOU, and how you fit in with it.

 

So, practice and get good at sharing your story and creating compelling emails..

 

There is good and bad follow up; once you get leads, what you DO with them matters. Remember, you are probably not the only person or business they are evaluating.

 

Different people will convert differently. The way the person landed on your list will make a difference. It has been proven that those who find you through Social Media and Search Engines typically have a higher interest level, convert faster (although most often not instantly) read your emails more.

 

Those who come in through paid sources (solo and media buys, PPC) are typically a little more stand offish and take more time to warm up. And, like anything, NOT ALWAYS. Every person is different.

 

If possible, do a little of both types of marketing and begin to test for yourself. I know a lot of people who build almost exclusively through solo ads. 

 

 

Today, email is still an important part of marketing and can be more effective than the phone, because people don't answer the phone. Think about it. How often do you screen your calls? And, while every email you send won't be opened, staying consistently will increase your success ratio.

 

I think of some email lists I am on that I seldom read. but don’t unsub from -

 

Target

Anthropologie

White House/Black Market

 

 

and others. I stay on and every once in a while. a subject line draws me in.

 

You want to work on getting good at those subject lines and use a good auto responder lead capture system that tracks opens and clicks.

Don't be scared of your list, or those who unsubscribe. You WANT those who are not interested to unsubscribe! Why waste your time and email resources and space on them?

 

 

I want you to think about the emails you open; scan; read all the way through; take action on; and delete without thinking twice.

 

Study your own habits and you may find you fit your target market's habits as well.

 

There are a few KEY components to getting opened and read.

 

The language you use is important. Over time, you want to learn to use more persuasive and even hypnotic language. Those who study NLP tend to write more persuasive emails.

 

You'll be learning how to engage people and share your story, and become like a friend to your list - and they'll be expecting your emails and look forward to reading them.

 

 

Write like you talk, not to impress; no jargon or big words; keep it simple; write like you are writing to Homer Simpson.

 

Unsubscribes shouldn't worry you - they were not going to buy anyway. Get them off your list and move on. The more you mail, the more you'll get and also the more sales you'll make.

 

Be authentic; be real and don’t just copy what someone else is sending. You want people to go from Social Media, to your site, to your auto responder and email messages to a conversation with you and know it’s the same person.

One of my own team partners recently asked this question, so I thought it would be perfect for the show - 

 

How do I get over feeling like I am making money off of people?

 

 

ANSWER

 

 

Do you ever or have you ever felt this way in your network marketing business? Like you are making money off of people? Do you see people as if they had a dollar sign stamped on their forehead?

 

I’m not sure really what triggers this for people, but here are some suggestions I have for getting over this.

 

First, evaluate your own WHY, goals and motives.

 

What are you doing this for? Who are you doing this for?

 

Do you feel like every time you place an order, or sponsor someone, that your sponsor is making money off of you? Does that cross your mind?

 

When you bought your last car, did you get hung up on the fact that the sales person was making money off of you?

 

How about when you buy -

 

Groceries?

Pay your light bill?

Go to dinner?

Buy a plane ticket?

 

OR do anything where there is an exchange of money?

 

Anytime money is exchanged, someone, somewhere, is making money off of you. And, often it is many people, just like network marketing.

 

 

Do you have a job that pays you? Are you somehow making money off of someone? Does that bother you or do you happily cash that pay check with no regard?

 

 

So, let’s dig down a little deeper.

 

Do you believe in the product or service of your business? Do you believe it offers value?

 

Do you believe there is the potential for others, besides you, to make money - fun money or even network marketing gangster money?

 

Do you believe that you are offering a gift when you invite someone to take a look?

 

Or, do you immediately think - how much will I make if they join?

 

Evaluate your own thoughts and feelings. This is something you are going to have to get control over to be successful.

 

We are vibrational beings and we give off a vibe of how we are feeling, even if we are unaware or try to think differently. It’s how you feel and believe that makes the difference.

 

Do you find yourself leading with the money in your network marketing prospecting conversations? Or, do you focus more on painting a vision of freedom and lifestyle?

 

Money is just a means to an end.

 

It’s an energy exchange.

 

Also, spend some time thinking about and journaling about how you feel about money. Do you have positive or negative thoughts around it? Do those thoughts consume you? Are you abundant or lack oriented in your thinking?

 

Do you believe money is the root of all evil? That it doesn’t grow on trees? Or, do you believe it is out there in abundance and anyone and everyone has the ability to generate as much or as little as they want?

 

Your thoughts in this area will drive the course of your business.

ANSWER

 

 

This is a question, challenge, dilemma or whatever you want to call it, that many of us face in our business. Here’s the harsh, cold reality of it, though - we are most often lying to ourselves.

 

Ouch! Sting!

 

I don’t mean to be harsh or call anyone out, but I know from my own lame excuses that lack of people we know, or people to talk to is not the challenge.

 

Being comfortable enough to approach them; and knowing what to say and how to take them through the process is the REAL challenge!

 

Every dud knows a stud.

 

Your job is not to enroll everyone you talk to into your Network Marketing business - or even anyone, for that matter. What?

 

Your job is to learn the number one skill that will make you millions - how to properly invite people to take a look.

 

That’s it. If you learn to treat your business like a serious business, it will produce for you like one. Over time, 1 in every 4 people you talk to will join you. 2 out of ten will do something, and about 1 in 100 will be a leader.

 

Knowing those odds, do you think you are willing to get started and be bad so you can be good, and get good so you can be great?

 

Success in inviting is a skill that is LEARNED and MASTERED. ANYONE, who can follow some simple coaching can learn it. You are no exception.

 

Work to lose you fear of rejection in Network Marketing. Carry fear with you into conversations and you will struggle.

 

Let go of your own agenda with people saying no, or people joining and you’ll sign people up.

 

Let’s quickly cover the basic memory jogger list for Network Marketing warm market lists -

 

Family

Friends and Acquaintances 

Social Contacts

Business Contacts

 

 

Before I get into what to say, remember this -

 

When people are looking and open, you don’t have to sell, you just need to share. Some people are open and don’t realize they are looking. You just have to ask.

 

Someone who is currently closed is just that - and nothing you can say or do will change that.

 

IT’s not you, your company, your script, products, Network Marketing and so on.

 

But, that doesn’t mean they are closed to giving referrals when you approach them the right way.

 

So, what do you say - remember, this is all about making the Network Marketing invitation.

 

I’m going to share what I say, and you can fine tune this to fit your particular company, product and situation -

 

I have a specific business oriented question I want to ask you. I’m expanding a business that I’ve just started (or been working on) because I want to quit my job and be one of those people who makes money from home with my laptop that I’ve seen around. I know you are busy and this may not be for you, but you may know some people who want to benefit from the internet business options that you may refer me to.

 

I have the chance to earn a $600-1200 bonus this month, and am wondering if you can do me a favor -

 

When would you have 5 minutes to watch 2 short videos on your computer?

 

Or, I’ve started a business because I am really not a fit in the corporate world any more and I want to go out on my own, and I need your help. (Or, I need a favor. Or, I need your opinion.) I want to quit my job and be one of those people who makes money from home with my laptop that I’ve seen around. We all start at square one, offline or online.

 

Surgeons don’t worry about having a success story when they are in pre-med, right? Attorney’s don’t when they are in law school.

 

How do you think they build success? The same way you are going to…from the ground up!

 

 

Here are some keys:

 

Have passion and enthusiasm!

 

Avoid hype and blatant sales.

 

Reach out to people who fall into FORM and ask questions through private message. Don’t blast with your Network Marketing opportunity, be sincere and genuine.

 

Be a 3D person, meaning make your updates social, fun/personal and business. Practice the 1/3, 1/3, 1/3 rule!

 

Offer value and education first, and the sign ups will come.

 

Be someone who is interested in others and you will become interesting.

 

Be consistent and engaged!

 

 

Success with social media is no different than offline. People are watching you so make sure your message fits your goals and who you are, what you stand for. Blend a 1/3,1/3,1/3 message. Watch for clues and take a sincere interest!

How do I explain what we do in Network Marketing? We often choke up when someone says - what exactly is it that you do?

 

 

ANSWER

 

Thanks Sasha Simon for that question, and I love that name - it’s catchy!

 

Don’t get bogged down in features and a long explanation. Also, it’s okay to create curiosity, but be careful being too evasive as that can create suspicion and put a lot of people off.

 

Ideas of creating curiosity:

 

I help people create multiple income streams through a side business online.

 

I help moms quit the corporate gig and develop their own business at home.

 

Here is how to get more descriptive -

 

There are two sides to my business. Explain products and how you help people who….

 

Then, there is the business side. Kind of like a real estate broker, I look for others who are looking for more - more income on the side; maybe income replacement; and so on. I help them market our products and build a team of others, just like I am doing.

 

Do you know anyone who might be interested in that?

 

First, develop your phrase or elevator speech. 

 

Product - I help people who……with a product that…..

 

Be careful to stay within regs. Share a story.

 

 

Business - I help people who….through my business marketing products that….and finding others who want to do the same.

 

 

IS this a pyramid? I’m not sure what you mean by a pyramid but let me tell you what we do and then you can call it whatever you want. How’s that?

 

I help people who….

 

 

The key is to become confident in what you are going to say when people ask what you do, or you have the opportunity to share it. The more you practice, the better you become and then easier it will roll off your tongue. When you have confidence, people will naturally be interested. Give it a try!

Today, I want to cover a topic that people ask a lot and that is how to build a business as a single mom, or dad. 

 

We all have such busy schedules today and finding time to do anything extra can seem impossible at times.

 

But, as they say, the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again expecting different results.

 

If you want to own your life, own your time, and to some degree, own your income, then you must MAKE the time and get very focused and serious about your time and calendar.

Success is about a few simple things -

 

Contact, Invite, Present, Follow Up, Sponsor, Train and Duplicate

 

 

Sounds oversimplified but it is true.

 

These are all business skills that can be developed.

 

So, let’s get into how to do this.

 

I recently received an email from a new team partner, looking to use online methods to build her business, who said -

 

 

I'm a recently divorced single mother of four daughters and my desire is to not only be the breadwinner in my household, but to make a great income while being a WAHM, like you.  I was a WAHM when I was married and I want to do better financially as a WAHM now than when I was married.  Can you show me how?

 

 

 

My answer is - You bet! Nothing I have done over the last 20 years is a secret or anything that anyone else “Can’t” do. It’s more often been a case of what others WON’T do to be successful. There are no tricks OTHER THAN - 

 

Be very clear on your why; 

be very clear on your commitment; 

Talk to your family about your goals and involve them in the process.

never quit on a bad day; 

be consistent; 

put your blinders on and avoid the distraction of bright shiny objects. 

Study, learn and master the business skills needed to be successful.

Talk to at least 2 people a day about your business, even if you are getting started using the internet as a tool.

 

As far as the online piece of it, there is nothing magical in any system that's being "sold" out there! Success takes hard work, period! Immerse yourself in the journey and have fun!

 

We must master the skill of finding out what another person really wants before we jump into sharing the details of what we offer.

 

This takes time and practice. Almost all of us start this process feeling a little rusty, like a fish out of water. It’s most often not something we have done before, so it’s normal to feel uncomfortable.

 

Start to get over this by becoming authentically interested in finding out why another person might also be interested in pursuing this journey with you.

 

Learn good success language to start and finish the process.

Set realistic goals and expectations for yourself. The financial side of this is so important.

 

As part of this email, this question was also asked -

 

I'd like to make six figures within 12 months. This goal means I need to earn $300 per day online starting now.

 

My answer to that - 

 

 

That's a great goal to have out there, AND, it’s important to be realistic. Do you make 6 figures now? I only ask because there is a mindset shift that has to happen for most people to get there. Most people who want to climb Mt Everest won't make it the first year they start training. Even if they went full time and took massive action, it IS a process. Don't let that deter you. Just be realistic and again, focus on being consistent. 

 

Setting too big of a goal can almost be worse than setting no goal at all, especially when it throws us into fear and scarcity mode, even subconsciously. 

 

When someone has not really earned anything yet from their business, and then they need to be earning $300 a DAY right now, yikes!

 

That is most likely a Mt Everest type of goal.

 

First of all, one must understand the timeline of success and how momentum and growth occurs in this business.

 

You have to create momentum, and that doesn't happen overnight. The steps you take your first three months may not yield much in terms of tangible results. But, there is stuff going on behind the scenes that you don't know about! I promise. People begin watching and evaluating.

 

What you earn daily in month one will not be the same as month 3 or 6 and so on, if you are being consistent and are creating growth.

 

Your team members also must begin creating momentum to create the type of growth you are looking for. And, it can be a time process for them as well.

 

Think of your own story. Did you take action right away? What did your first few weeks or months look like in the business? Where did you excel? Where did you stumble? Have you had a pattern of starting and stopping, starting and stopping?

 

Expect that some on your team are going to do this as well. It’s not until we get a core group of builders on the team that things REALLY begin to happen, without us being the “driver” all of the time.

 

Let’s cover the specifics that must be consistent that I mentioned at the beginning -

 

Be very clear on your why; seriously, without a strong, powerful, compelling “must have” why, it is SO easy to procrastinate and ultimately give up, and blame a lot of things outside of our control for our lack of success. If you have not clearly defined a powerful why that compels, and I mean compels you to take action each day, that will be your #1 stumbling block and I encourage you to do that NOW, before you take a single other step.

 

 

Be very clear on your commitment; commitment involves making a decision. It’s not about hoping, wishing and just thinking about it. Look at other areas of your life and commitments you have made or not made. I like to use the gym as an example. Or diet, weight loss, fitness, etc.

 

It’s no mystery what it take to get in shape, lose weight and such. For most who are failing in this area, it’s just simply a lack of COMMITMENT, and follow through.

 

So, be honest with yourself and your level of commitment.

 

Thinking about your business is NOT the same as working your business although it can lull us into thinking that we are spending all this time and getting no where.

 

Talk to your family about your goals and involve them in the process. Explain why you are building your business and what they can expect from you; what you need from them; and open it up for questions. ASK THEM to assist and support you. Listen to my previous show on ways to involve them.

Never quit on a bad day; always give yourself the space of 24 hours to re-evaluate anything. Quitting is MUCH easier than seeing the job through.

 

 

Be consistent; this is much like commitment. Just do it!

 

 

Put your blinders on and avoid the distraction of bright shiny objects.  This can be such a challenge and the reality is that only YOU can control it. Always ask - is this moving me closer to my goal. And, if so, how? Here is a tip - there are NO secrets. I don’t care what new company, new online system, social media plan and so on, that comes along. There is no flip to switch or overnight success way of doing things. Whatever it is takes work.  My 20 years in this profession has proven this over and over.

 

 

 

Study, learn and master the business skills needed to be successful. We started with that, and these include -

 

Contact, Invite, Present, Follow Up, Sponsor, Train and Duplicate

Talk to at least 2 people a day about your business, even if you are getting started using the internet as a tool. While you are learning to 

generate leads online, you still need to be contacting new people. Don’t use this as a reason to stop doing business building activities, just because you are developing a blog and so on.

 

Look at it this way - let’s say you have a jewelry store and you are moving to a new location. You don’t stop selling from the old location, or opening the store daily while the new one is being built. Or at least I hope not!

The requirements of success don’t change. The steps don’t change. We all most often need to burn some midnight oil to make the transition we want. I can’t tell you how many times I went to bed, then got up at midnight, and worked until 2am and then went back to bed while I was learning the skills of the internet.

 

IT wasn’t ideal, but I knew for sure that those 2 hours were MINE and there would be no distractions from family or household stuff at that hour! Looking back, I don’t miss that sleep I didn’t get and I am SO glad I did it. Was it worth it? Absolutely. And, it takes discipline, I know.

 

 

Or get up earlier in the day. Think of the military. They have a slogan that goes something like - we get more done before the sun comes up than most people do all day….

 

All great things happen outside of our comfort zone! 

 

 

ACTION ITEMS FOR YOU

 

Look at your calendar and see where you can create time for your business.

 

Determine your skill level at contacting, inviting and so on and see where you might need improvement and take steps to do just that - improve.

 

Schedule time to sit down with your family and discuss your plans, your commitment and how they can be involved!

 

BELIEVE that you can do it, because you CAN!

First let me share the story of someone in the business. Ron Forrester was already a success in the eyes of many as a pharmacist, and was probably on quite a few chicken lists. 7 years of asking and re-asking to take a look, come to a meeting and such.

 

Finally, he said yes. Today, he and his wife are top income earners and enjoy retirement freedom. Would you like to have sponsored him? Would you have been willing to swallow your pride, or get out of your own way and continue to invite him for 7 years?

 

There are hundreds if not thousands of stories out there just like this.

 

My own story is like this.

 

 

Let’s talk about 2 types if follow up -

 

After you have shown the business.

 

And, after you have contacted someone who has said no to taking a look.

 

 

 

After you have shown the business -

 

First, ask to join. If they say no, set follow up appt before you end the presentation.

 

Follow up. Continue to follow up 3 times, and then do take away, but leave the door open.

 

Recontact the next month, and the next month, and then every 4-6 months after.

 

Simple success language - share new updates, expansion, life changes.

 

Use direct mail postcards. This is powerful. SendOutFunCards.com simple, powerful option.

 

 

 

After you have contacted someone who has said no to taking a look.

 

Recontact every 4-6 months.

Share your own success stories in a way that is not about hype, but very casual and day to day.

 

Keep it fun, light, upbeat and avoid pressure.
