I love this holiday and this season because it is such a great time to reflect on everything we have to be grateful for.

On today’s show, I want to share some things I am grateful for in life and in business, and let’s see what we might share some common ground with….

Thanks for joining me for today’s show, and I hope you’ll find some value here. If you have comments or questions, tweet them to me @jackieulmer and let’s connect!

Thanksgiving and a Season of Gratitude

I’m spending the holiday in Phoenix, with my parents and my brother’s family, for the first time in YEARS. My kids were tiny the last time we were all together, so I am grateful for that!

It’s been an interesting year, personally.

Moving my parents - leaving the area I grew up in vs now in Phoenix, where I used to live.

My mom’s health

Sometimes, trying to find gratitude in the midst of struggle is challenging but that is where our greatest successes will come from.

My greatest challenge came earlier this month with one of those phone calls every parent dreads.

On November 4th, my phone rang with news that my 22 year old son had been involved in a motorcycle crash and was in a hospital trauma center with serious injuries.

Cracked ribs, broken back bones, some road rash and other scrapes and bruises - he was pretty banged up.

We had two rough days in the hospital, dealing with his pain, prognosis and what would lie ahead.

Fortunately, he is going to be fine, and is expected to make a full recovery in 6-8 weeks. He is ALIVE, Thank you God!!!

And, he is doing extremely well now, and just a few weeks later, it’s a miracle how the body can heal.

Despite the nightmare of it all, I was able  to remain fairly calm, reminding myself -

“You are in a hospital, not a morgue, not a funeral home. It could be so much worse…”

It was easy for me to do this, NOW, because I started a gratitude practice some time ago.

I learned to find the silver lining in every situation.

It was not always easy.

And, through it all. I was so grateful for a few things -

1. I own my own business, internet based, so I was able to drop everything and be there, with no boss to advise or hassles. I started it back when my son was just 15 months old, because I wanted to be there with him, and never have him in day care.

There were some challenging times, and I am grateful for those challenges because they made me stronger; more committed; and they made the prize so much more worthwhile.

I’ve learned to be grateful for every challenge and perceived obstacle in my life. There is always something of beauty in it, and sometimes I’ve had to look hard to find it.

2. Because my business is fairly automated, it continued to work for me, producing leads and INCOME. This is so important because the mental clutter associated with worry over things that should not matter in a time of crisis can be so disruptive to healing and helping.

3. I was able to rearrange my schedule to take care of him as he rehabbed here at home with me and my husband.

I realized in a split second what really matters in life, and even though I already KNEW it, it helps to be reminded.

Life is extremely fragile and the only moment we really have is this one, right now.

The past is over, let it go.

The future is not here, and is not guaranteed, so it’s best to be fully present in this moment.

15 years ago, I saw the power and potential that the internet offered.

I caught the vision.

No one ever said it would be easy, and that it  wouldn’t take work.

And, in many ways, it has not been easy and it sure has taken work.

And, everything great that we want in life is just  that -

Not always easy and not without work.

My passion and I do mean PASSION is coaching others on how to use Social Media and online tools to build a business that you TRULY own….

One that gives you a great deal of freedom and independence.

I almost can’t even put into words what that has meant to me over the last 15 years.

It really brings me to tears of gratitude.

It’s what launched my inner circle coaching program where I can dig in and help those who also want to master becoming a

Imagine how different your life would be if you learned to start it in gratitude and live each day as a gift.

Studies have shown that gratitude is a key component to personal happiness. IT’s impossible to feel sad when you are reflecting on something you are grateful for.

I love this quote by Pir Vilayat Inayat Khan

Do not be concerned about being disloyal to your pain by being joyous.

And, by Anthony Robbins -

When you are grateful, fear disappears and abundance appears.

I want to close out today by giving you some steps you can incorporate into your life to create more gratitude and see how your life shifts.

ACTION STEPS

Start a gratitude journal.

Use it daily for appreciation and reflection. Read it in the morning, reflecting on what you wrote the night before, and complete it each night, going to sleep with a smile on your face.

Practice gratitude for what you have already, what you want to keep and what you are anticipating in your life.

Pick one person to appreciate each day, and let them know it. Email, call, text, send a card or gift.

Take a midday break and take a 10-20 minute gratitude walk. Reflect on what you feel great about. If you work, it will help you end the day in a great mood and more productive.

Have a gratitude gathering once a quarter, not just on Thanksgiving.

EXPECT miracles to show up daily!
